and in an Open system what is the construct, Energy?

Hey I was curious if you could make an irreversible reaction reversible by the input of energy with regard to scenario 3 at 6:00.

Hi Samira In essence all types of reactions are "reversible" but what we mean when we classify a certain type of reaction as "irreversible" is that it would be entirely impractical to engage in the reverse reaction because of the vast amounts of energy which would be required to revert it. There are some other factors which may affect the reaction such that it is irreversible for example if we were burning fuel and we had lost some of the carbon dioxide or water vapour products. In the context of the scenario which you mentioned, just assume that it is not possible to revert it.

@@ScienceReady Thank you! I understand now. Also, your video was extremely helpful to me understanding this concept and answered many of my questions and misunderstandings.

So what happens with the thermal decomposition of calcium carbonate in a closed system?
@ScienceReady
@ScienceReady Жыл бұрын
The thermal decomposition of calcium carbonate in a closed system is reversible. The products which are produced from the reaction will stay in the reaction vessel and thus will be able to recombine under the appropriate conditions within the vessel to reform calcium carbonate.

@@ScienceReady Woah ok, with calcium oxide if you add water then cover it, the reaction wont stop, like in an MRE? I tried this, just hydrazine monohydrate and quicklime and with this it turns out you then can, like, pause the reaction rate by just covering the reaction vessel with a piece of plastic wrap. pls ellucidate 🙏

Why is the combustion of magnesium non equilibrium?
@ScienceReady
@ScienceReady Жыл бұрын
It is a irreversible reaction. The forward reaction is exothermic and entails a positive change in entropy. This means the reverse reaction has no drivers (non-spontaneous).
