Hi! I'm Gwyn, a 17-year-old from the USA, and this is my entry for the #breakthroughjuniorchallenge! I'll quickly take you through the basics of DNA, gene editing, and how scientists are now using CRISPR. To fit in the time limit (and the rhyme scheme!) I couldn't cover everything. For more on CRISPR, check out these great resources or feel free to drop questions in the comments and I'll do my best to help you out! www.vox.com/2018/7/23/1759486...
• What is CRISPR?
Black lives matter. I feel it's important that I acknowledge that rap is a genre created by Black artists. White people far too often appropriate Black culture, absorbing the parts that they like into popular culture and leaving the rest as symbols that are negatively attached with Blackness. I've found for years that putting scientific concepts to a beat and rhyme help me memorize them, and the process of creating these projects helps me understand the concepts better, which is why I presented my content in this way. Here's a collection of resources related to the Black Lives Matter movement (content may be explicit)--if there are any other videos or resources you think I should link to or if anything on this website is problematic, please let me know!

The beat in the background is free use music created by Mixla; they explicitly confirmed that it was okay to use in a scholarship entry as long as credited in the title as I have done. All other work is my own.
