Hi lovely people!
A video showcasing some street style in Fitzroy, Melbourne. I had such a pleasure chatting to so many strangers on the street and asking people what they're wearing.

I love street style videos, thanks for taking the time and making the social effort to put this video together for me to enjoy here on the other 'side' of the globe in London. Right now it's winter and EVERY woman seems to be into those clumpy, thick-soled hybrid combat boot-rain boots-- most often in white or cream tones. These rubber boots (like Doc Marten cross Blundstones) are worn with oversized quilted parkas and often a baseball cap. The furry 'teddy bear' coats of last winter are out of style and only worn by the less dynamic, lazier, less aesthetically concerned types on glory runs to the supermarket etc. The clumpy rubber boot and quilted parka-cap vibe makes me think I'm in a K-drama-- very 'basic instagram account in urban Seoul'. Sadly, Nike rubber slides worn with grubby white ankle socks are still around. Who started this disgusting trend?! They remind me of Japanese toilet slippers-- and such slippers are for avoiding verrucae in caravan park shower blocks or to be worn indoors only. To see them worn with white socks (ALWAYS white socks) in public just makes me wince. Fashion in England, generally speaking, is very generic and anodyne and people are incredibly ovine and slavishly obedient with not much characterful input or daring, idiosyncratic twists made on their interpretation of imported trends. Balenciaga sneakers that sploodge backwards making the heel look like it's melting or the person has an unfortunate bone deformity actually bring on a mild gag reflex. Folks just compete to see how perfectly they can reproduce the acknowledged mainstream trends of the month (ie; Kardashian-inspired cornrow-braid pigtails are still a thing). But real creativity, daring and intelligent curation of outfits; people with their own little self-referential creative worlds and outfits representative of their own inner, niche interests? Not at all. You'd have to be in certain parts of London to see the interesting 'fashiony' folks. Outside of London is an aesthetic wasteland when it comes to creative culture, the arts and fashion. PS= I burst out laughing near the end of this video when you generously breathed out the word 'amazing!' when exposed to that ridiculous notebook of scribbles at the end. I have no idea what all that was-- I've seen speed freaks exercise books with more accomplished doodlings. It's awful how disingenuous and dishonest we can all be when we suddenly find ourselves in socially awkward, unexpectedly underwhelming situations-- but don't want to be unkind or are averse to awkward silences. On instinct, I too dumbly blurt out effusive praise which isn't remotely warranted. This cheapens so much in our communication and I must fight this, both online and off. I have to practice the art of diplomatic ambiguity, with kind body language and encouraging noises taking the place of effusive, articulated words of praise. Then I can maintain my personal integrity and not give in to glibness. Anyhow, great little video. Keep 'em coming! Hope you have a great week and stay healthy and productive.

It has become standard in Melbourne for men to wear t-shits to restaurants, usually black. Sometimes it's impossible to find even one guy with a collar. How hard is it to put on a shirt? And the girls they are with have obviously taken a lot of trouble getting done-up. It all reeks of insecure Australian 'tough guy' mentality.

Unbelivable. Most of them look like homeless, especially the first girl - socks with terrible black shoes, OMG - and the man in coat and vest.....very sad, seriously.

The man with the individual items of expensive designer gear had no sense of style.. His outfit was terribly put together, I agree. I'm unsure what he was thinking wearing those shorts with that coat-- and the t shirt that exposed his entire chest was an appalling choice. He seemed so charming and with such potential...just no real gift for styling. He reminded me of an appalling amphetamine addict I knew years ago, who rather appropriately also lived around Fitzroy. This guy though, he looked like his sweat smelled of chemicals and had been up for 3 days. Oh dear. I mean this light-heartedly; it's only an outfit. I'm sure I haven't the power to hurt the bloke's feelings. We all have off days. I'd have been mortified to have been interviewed for a street style interview yesterday afternoon whilst speed-stomping to the local supermarket as I looked TERRRRRRRIBLE, like a farm hand or a warehouse worker. I just wanted to get my stuff and get home ASAP. Perhaps this guy was running similar errands and thus, not concerned with his sartorial curation for the day?

@@alannahsander6767 thank you so much! I'm only seeing your comment now, but I usually just first approach them by introducing myself, sharing my photography work and also telling them that I love their style and usually majority of the time they are down to be filmed :) I'm glad you love the content!!
