What Are People Wearing In Tokyo Japan | Harajuku Style

Why Is this fashion style allowed to thrive in Tokyo Japan? The style I speak of, is of course, the Harajuku subculture, and all the wonderfully crazy Tokyo fashions that have stemmed out of this movement in Japan. This week we're covering Tokyo fashion to explore this paradoxical question. In such a conservative society, how is it that such wild looks are able to thrive? Or is there a cultural dissonance that we aren't aware of? I explore Tokyo fashion and style in Shibuya, Shimokitazawa, Harajuku, as well as asking opinions across generations and perspectives. This is a step away from what are people wearing in Tokyo, and more of a Tokyo Fashion documentary, to really explore the heart of Japanese fashion and culture, and gain a deeper perspective beyond just Japanese street style.

I have definitely cropped things too short in the past. There are lots of way to fix it! You can sew the bottom part back to the length you like, or make a ruffle as long or short as you want, which was really popular in Japan a few years ago!

The common thread in Japanese culture that leads to both: is whatever you do, do it very well, become very good at it- work hard. If you want to fit in, fit in perfectly, if you want to stand out, stand out so extremely it is a masterpiece. The same culture supports both. It seems like a paradox until you look more deeply at the Japanese mindset.

I love how you translated New York for New Rock (goth shoe brand) when you asked him where his shoes were from 😊 New Rock having been known for their heavy duty platform stompers (they aren’t made well anymore like they use like so many companies now that outsource in order to make cheap cutbacks but still charge same high prices, like Doc Martens now in made China and therefore no longer the amazing long lasting magnificent quality they use to have when made in the UK, or how all clothes that use to be made in the US in the 90s use to last so long unlike now almost everything made in China), that’s why now I’m just buying vintage (70s, 80s or 90s) clothing, even vintage luxury brand bags that use to use 14k gold plated hardware unlike now 😩.
