Oxidation occurs when an atom LOSES electrons. Reduction occurs when an atom GAINS electrons. You can figure out which atoms have gained/lost electrons by looking at "oxidation numbers", which are kind of like charges.

Your videos are extremely helpful. I am struggling through Chemistry because my teacher doesn't teach in a fashion that suits me. She goes way to fast for me to comprehend what she says, and I am often left behind in the course. Your videos have allowed me to catch up and sometimes even get ahead of what she teaches us. Your videos are probably the most helpful thing I have found since the internet! Thank you for taking your time to make and upload these. If I were to rate 1-10, 10 being the best...I would give you an 11. Thank you so much for putting your time and effort into helping people understand concepts that are sometimes very hard to understand.

I am so thankful to you; you can't even begin to comprehend how much. Honestly, it's not the material that's super hard, it's finding a teacher or resources competent enough to help teach you. Thanks, man.

Power Max It's not always the instructors fault for a student not being able to learn a subject. For many students, including me, the atmosphere of a classroom and lecture makes learning subjects like science and math difficult. However, being able to pause and rewind a youtube video makes learning much easier.

Thank you c: this topic is kinda weird because its kinda a double negative when you look at it from a beginner point of view, you'd think "REDUCTION" is something to do with an element "LOSING" something... because Reducing something is taking something away from it... but yh, thank for this awesome video :) Helped alot!

In the first Redox Reaction, the Br is reduced by 2e. It gains 1e per Br atom. There are 2 Br atoms. So 2*1 gives you 2. Therefore the Br atom gains 2e. Simple mathematic mistake but you should fix it to clear up any confusion that your viewers may experience.

Now I get it. Thanks a lot! I need to work on finding the charges for each atom.

thanks for sharing your video. in 4:02, i couldn't catch. I think, Br should be Oxidation and Cu will be Reduction. for instance, Br loses from 0 to -1. I am looking forward to replying.
