Hi Michele yes I like opaque colors, I'm wondering at times how to glaze over them with suitable colors. Thank you for sharing. Blessings

Yes, I enjoy opaque watercolors occasionally, but am often stumped where best they're used other than in florals and how they can be properly glazed over. I am truly missing more of your actual full painting tutorials. You are so very, very talented and I learn so much from them. Thank you!!!

I use whatever color I want. I am by no means an artisit, just someone who likes to dabble and it is suppose to be fun. Love your videos, BTW.

Yes I love the opaque colors too. I have a love 💕 for all the colors. I tend like the opaque more lately in my paintings. Thanks for explaining these & the tip of drawing a black line for the swatches. Great video & I really love the new painting.

I love variety and learning the different properties. I love all. Transparent, semi opaque and opaque gouache. And I mix them together. Learn and use appropriately depending o the individual artwork and your personal preferences/style!

Your reference to history intrigued me. I majored in Art History and can not remember a single mention of water color in any of the many classes I took. I clearly need to fill in this appalling gap in my knowledge! LOL

Ive rewatched this video three times to really understand the differences you were explaining sometimes i wonder if i will understand all the terminology i know ive only been doing watercolor for three years but i sometimes still get a bit mind blown with things i cant grasp from my pior knowledge of watching videos, i guess repetitive relearning rewatching infomation will and can help, i dislike looking like im not sure what a artist is talking about...someday i know everything will come easier, but theres so much infomation....i enjoy all colors theres so many art supplies ive fallen in love with im sometimes sad i cant try them all but happy then again happy im on a limited budget and space wise that way i can sharpen my skills on what art supplies i have and i continually reference back to your posters that i bought to help expand my color ranges that i can discover, ive got favorites on the poster of colors...mikelle art mom🎨✍👩🎨

*i like any color that enhances or brings subtle qualities to the image i'm working on...i mostly lean towards working abstractly at the moment so distressed earth tones are dominant in my palette and layering is a huge part of what i do...so simi opaques would provide some unique possibilities to future projects*

Great video, thanks Michele! I use opaque watercolours to fight against unwanted darks, as pigments, incredibile but true, lemon yellow or Hansa yellow are "stronger" than black and it's real fun seeing how they interact used together. I totally agree with what you said at the end on mixing colours with a semi opaque pigment, that chalkiness is not always what your looking for but sometimes it turns out useful. I think I'm going to buy that transparent yellow and give it a try instead of using quinacridone gold, greens and oranges will be brighter I guess. Thanks 🙏
@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber2 жыл бұрын
Yes the transparent yellow is great, Indian yellow is a good one too, less 'brown' than quinacridone.

Great tip about the black line test, thank you. I have a set, somewhat depleted now, of Kuretake watercolours that are quite opaque. I recently watched a video where they were used like gouache. Apparently, the paints were made to be used on rice paper, which I've never tried before.
@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber2 жыл бұрын

Michelle you mentioned Daniel Smith green gold. I have this beautiful paint and have noticed that it is very ‘pushy’. Meaning that , when I place it near or on other colours it seems to push them away. I haven’t noticed this as much with other colours. Is this an actual phenomenon or was it just me not knowing what I was doing 😂
@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber2 жыл бұрын
It's probably more to do with the fact that it's so strong that you add a lot of water. Wet areas will always push into less wet areas. That's my guess!
@carollen56012 жыл бұрын
Hi Michele, I did the test and found out some art companies' identical colors have different opacity degrees. Especially Yellow Ochre and a few more...
@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber2 жыл бұрын
I am not surprised by that. All manufacturers use different pigments or even just different sources and suppliers, they may also prepare them differently.

Thank you Michele, another great lesson! A quick question - do the cadmium free paints like “cad yellow hue” have about the same opaqueness as the originals?
@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber2 жыл бұрын
A Hue is a replacement or a look alike so it entirely depends on what the manufacturer has replaced the cadmium with. Take a look on the tube/pan/website for the pigment number(s), pop them into google and you will get lots of info including transparency.
