Hi, you can’t login to a shared mailbox and your external user won’t be licensed. I think you’ll need a full exchange online license for your example

You’d need to create a Group instead, as they also get a shared mailbox by default (but it doesn’t appear under Shared Mailboxes in the UI), and you can invite external guests to Groups.

If the user will be off for brief period, just leave it as a regular mailbox and add a few delegates, when the user returns just remove the delegates....done.

@@bearded365guy Hi Jonathan, Thanks for your reply. I had to add the shared mailboxes by right clicking on "folders" > add shared mailbox. This option only worked for me after a day or two.

Remove the license from the mailbox will wipe the accounts OneDrive!! If you make it a regular mailbox again, your OneDrive data is gone.
