I ride this car as a borrow, want to bring it back fully charged preferably. And I don’t really get why whilst driving it in sport+ it’s so low all the time. But now I know I can charge it with an hour of just cruising. Happy lender. Lóve the car very much ❤

Great video Damo, very informative with some real world advice from experience always helps. I’m moving back to the UK from Australia in July and I have a 2016 c350e at home in saloon. I haven’t yet driven it but wanted to know if you had any comments on the value of regenerative braking in your 350e.

Thank you Robert. Good question on the regen. I should have mentioned it in the video. The regen braking works really well. If I know I'm coming to a stop then I'll keep a constant gentle push on the brakes to see the charge going in, if you're careful you can see the HV battery percentage increase which is quite satisfying. The car also regens elegantly when coasting with feet on now pedals and will kick the regen in more as you approach another vehicle which nicely slows the car. It sounds like its taking over but it isn't and works really well. It's surprisingly just how much charge you can hold on to and even increase by regulating braking/slowing and when coasting. Cheers and enjoy the car when you're back!

True. I mostly drive in the e-save mode. I try not to fully deplete the HV battery to make the battery healthier and last longer.

Great video, thanks !! Question about fuel range - outside our mpg what can you expect to get out of a full tank of petrol driving normal , not like a race car driver - how many miles/km can you expect in conjunction to get until empty - thanks

ooo great question, it really does depend on the structure of your journeys and how you use the car. e.g. lots of short electric only trips interspersed with longer journeys will stretch the range a lot. I estimate up to 460 miles is achievable. The fuel tank is small though vs a full ICE C-class I guess due to the battery weight/volume. Do make sure your tyres are correctly inflated, this will boost your coasting and electric generation massively, up to 2-3mpg improvement alone.

Thanks for the advise for e save mode. one question, is it normal to hear starting sound when electric changes to petrol ?i have recently noticed when accelerating.

No. Thats a clear sign your starter motor is on the way out. Expect to see 2 yellow cogs and the word malfunction soon. The C350e eats through them due to all the firing up on the petrol it does switching from electric. About £340 gbp supplied and fitted. Its a simple enough job but has to be done from underneath the car. Just had ours done with 51k miles.

When I got the car it would start off using battery for a while then the engine would kick in. For some reason now, the engine kicks in immediately on starting and does not go in to battery mode at all. Yet, the battery level drops. I have a charging station at home, fully charge, it does the same. I'm lucky to get 32 mpg on a 100 mile journey. Any tips?

Just a quick question as looking to buy one with around 90k miles. Have you had to replace the battery at all? And if so what are costs associated with that? Thanks in advance for any help :)

Just replaced the starter motor (337 UK GBP by a specialist). The 12v has been ok but in August its due a major service so will get it done then, think its about 400-500 GBP using a specialist that will also reset the brain to tell it the battery is new (Super important to avoid over charging).

Centre console button cycles through driving modes. Stop it when it gets to E-Mode. If its greyed out then either there isn't enough HV battery charge or the car isn't ready to go into E mode only.

Hi! Thanks for your reply, It does goes in to Emode when the car is Off so what I do is I press the start engine button twice then I select the Emode it seems to be ready right there but then I pushed the brake pedal and push the start engine button again and the petroleum engine kim’s in and you can see the car is not running fully electric although it still shows Emode. Is that the correct procedure? I’m just wondering if I am missing a step.

@@chinosonero4990 charge HV. Hit start button once (dash lights up but car should not start). Cycle drive mode button to e-mode, foot on brake pedal, select drive on stalk, hit the go pedal.

@@damos_cars hi, yeah I tried that but it doesn’t change to eMode till you push the start engine button twice then you can change it but when you push break pedal and start engine again it stays in eMode but turns engine on as well.

Can I start the car in E-Mode? And how many miles can I go on a full charge battery? I am planning to buy a 2016 car do I need to replace the battery, if not any tips to check about the battery life?

yes - you can use e-mode exclusively for up to about 10 miles (tops) more likely 7 to 8 before the ICE will kick in. Depends on the mileage and climate. Most of the HV batteries seem to be reliable. A few odd reports of them expiring and needing to be replaced. Probably when they hit 10+ years old then they'll really start to degrade. Factor it in to your purchase price.

I have a question about heating the combustion engine. If you drive only in E mode without petrol engine, does the cooling fluid of battery heat combustion engine? I ask that because if you need full power it is not very good for petrol engine to floor it while is cold.

Its a great question and I'm not sure it does to be honest. You can view engine temp in the menu and in e-mode only it doesn't rise... In fact even running the ICE And then running e-mode only for a while afterwards it surprising how quickly the engine temp does drop.

It's very bad for engine and especially for turbo to go on hi rews with cold oil.

What does that do? Might be the same as the charge setting.

@@L3AF oh ok. Interesting. No there is no setting for that. When it’s hybridding assumes it regulates the same regen all the time. You can’t change it.

you can switch to e-mode only whilst driving providing the HV battery has enough juice. Once the HV batter is used it'll go back to Hybrid mode and flick between petrol/electric keepining the minimum charge in the HV battery, unless you set it to Charge then it will run petrol only to chage the HV battery up.

Varies a bit actually, sometimes it can be as low as 37 UK MPG with no prior charge and the heater on etc but more often its around 44 to 45 UK MPG.

@@damos_cars it takes, and I have counted, about 15 seconds to start the nav from let's say the media screen. When you scroll to select letters for address it takes about 3-4 seconds to catch up... I wanted to know if there was anyway to improve this.

Hi! This is a very informative video! I´ve been looking everywhere for an explanation regarding the different hybrid modes, thanks! I was wonderng if you know what mpg you would get if you were driving the car on the ICE-only, at a constant speed of 80-90 km/h (highway driving). And how much more fuel does this plug in hybrid use on ICE-only, compared to the non-plug in hybrid equivalent? Obviously its going to consume more, but just how dramatic is difference? From what ive gathered, the difference would be in the range of 5-10 UK mpg, but it would be nice to hear from someone who actually has expirience with this car. Do you still own this car by the way? If so, how is it holding up as a whole? And more importantly, how is the high voltage battery doing, have you noticed any significant reduction in the EV range that you get from it? Thanks in advance!

Thank you. 5-10 uk mpg sounds about right. Taken it from 36k miles to 55k in last 2 years. Had planned to sell now but it’s so good we’re keeping it. They eat starter motors so had that done. No noticeable degradation in HV battery. Tyre pressures done right and since the starter I can eek out 55mpg. Hugely capable, versatile, practical, economical, quick, comfortable with great spec. It might just be the best car I’ve ever owned and you can see from the channel the competition. Best of luck with the search.

@rickyboy1964 it was a denso aftermarket fitted by a specialist as you have to gain access from underneath the car. About 350 gbp all in. Worked a treat, more electric driving from the get go and better economy. If the starter is on its way out the car seems to be more cautious about electric mode I guess because it’s worried it won’t be able start the ICE again when it needs to.

W moim 350e pokazał mi sie dzisiaj Czerwony sygnał baterii. Moze ktos z was miał juz cos podobnego. Hybryda kompletnie mi sie wyłączyła.
