Do you think that the "do you love me?" conversation between Jesus and Peter was in Koine Greek or Aramaic?
@ChaseCarrington4 жыл бұрын
In John 21:17 it is written in Koine Greek but the language spoken at the time would've been Aramaic. Aramaic is infrequently written in the bible but was the common spoken of Jesus' region and time.

Do you know if there is an equivalent in Aramaic for agape/philia? The passage loses meaning in English because there is only one word for love.

God is Love ❤❤❤❤ (1 Corinthians 13:1-13) Aaccording to blibical literatures and research 👨💻👩💻 the word Love is mentioned in the Bible 765 times 👁👁. Also, there are four types of love: First is Agape Love, Second is Philia Love, which refers to an affectionate, warm and tender platonic love that makes us desire friendship with someone. Also refers to love for material things (1 Timothy 6:10).Third is Storge Love- It is a kind of family and friendship love. This is the love that parents naturally feel for their children; the love that member of the family have for each other (Romans 12:10)( Corinthians 13:1). Lastly Eros Love: which is a passionate and intense love that arouses romantic feelings; it is the kind that often triggers “high” feelings in a new relationship and makes you say, “I love him/her”. However, by the grace of God, we'll focus on the first type of love known as Agape love, which is the main theme of discussion as emphasized in the book of Corinthians 13. By definition, Agape love is a Greco-Christian term referring to love, "the highest form of love, charity" and "the love of God for man and of man for God". Also know as unconventional love that looks beyond physical matters in acceptance of all creations as God's precious anointed stones. ❤🙏🙏❤❤ ❤Agape Love gives us Life. God's love for us is agape, it is unconditional and endless because God is the only source of life and his love is the reminder of the life we now possess by his power and compassion (1 John 4:7-8). Likewise, God's character of love as emphasized in lives in Galatians 5:22-23 lives in us because we are his creations. The book of Genesis 1:1 declares God is the father and creator of all creations and the author of life, mankind is made in his image from dust, and so was woman formed from the ribs of mankind ( Genesis 1: 26-29). John 3:16 declares God demonstrates his greatest love for us when he give his only beloved son Jesus Christ as the sacrificial Lamb of the world, by this action alone, God saved us from death and restored breath in us because the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ gave all creations an opportunity to be made new and alive, especially for us belivers of Christ as declared in Romans 5:8; that God's love for us is made known to us as Christ died for us while we were still sinners. Therefore, the Gospel of Mark 12:29-30 reminds us that unconditional Love is the greatest commandment instilled in mankind and Mark 12: 31 also declears God instructed us to love one another unconditionally as our lord Jesus Christ loves us. The gospel of Luke 6:26 declears love is greater than hatred and we are to manifest the gift of love even when hate is directed at us in a given moment. Likewise, Luke 6:36 teaches us that by the grace of God the father and by the power of the Holy Spirit, we too are to be merciful to others in love as Christ Jesus is merciful to us. ❤ Agape Love Never Dies: God's unconditional love for us is a continued process as he promised to us as declared in book of Isiah 54. God's love for us is timeless, endless and his blessings for his servants are as countless as the stars in the sky. Therefore, by the power of the Holy Spirit our helper, I pray that in our homes, communities, Churches, workplaces, and in the universe at large, may we too shown be lead by God that we may imitate the agape love of Christ Jesus to the rest of the world in our speach and attitudes. By the grace of God, by songs of praises, songs of Thanksgivings, acts of generosity, by attitudes of kindness, passion, Patience, and gentleness, may love without boundaries be our spoken language towards those around us in Jusus Name. May God lead us to freely offer prayers with and on behalf of those in need as Jesus Christ offered prayers to God the father on our behalf during this sacrificial journey to give his life to save us in our times of need. By the authority of Jesus Christ or Lord and Savior, may behaviors of respectfuness, humility and words of encouragement prevail in all we do today and the years to come; that the name of our father in heaven may be glorified by our actions and implementation of his love embedded in us In Jesus Mighty name we pray, Amen.

Confused...why are we calling Eros and storge biblical Greek when they are not mentioned in the bible?
@ChaseCarrington4 жыл бұрын
Because they exist in the language of koine Greek often referred to as biblical Greek because it the language used by the Bible. Also Storgē is in the Bible as words derived from it like astorgē which is a lack of love. Eros is not in the Bible but I believe it would be a disservice to leave it out because it is apart of the language. Also I think the lack of the word shows what type of love is valued by the Bible.

2 John 1:6 KJV And this is love(AGAPE), that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it. God SO loved the World The most famous, misused verse, that is twisted to say “God loves everyone” is John 3:16 John 3:16 KJV For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. So is an adverb, and it modifies the word loved. How “so” did God love the world? John 3:14 KJV And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: John 3:15 KJV That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. Look and Live Numbers 21:5 KJV And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for [there is] no bread, neither [is there any] water; and our soul loatheth this light bread. Numbers 21:6 KJV And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died. Numbers 21:7 KJV Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people. Numbers 21:8 KJV And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. Numbers 21:9 KJV And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived. Proverbs 20:12 KJV The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them. John 3:3 KJV Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again(G509 anothen-from above), he cannot see (G3708 horao - discern clearly) the kingdom of God. Exodus 19:5 Now therefore, if ye will obey (Shama-hear; obey) my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: Deuteronomy 4:36 Out of heaven he made thee to hear (Shama) his voice, that he might instruct thee: and upon earth he shewed thee his great fire; and thou heardest (shama) His words out of the midst of the fire.

To translate each of those words collectively as the same one English word is so wrong. The English word 'love' should only be reserved for God. Love is who God is. Nothing else can ever be love or be like love. There can't be 2 loves, or 3 loves. There is ONLY ONE love, because there can only be one God.
