I have the bearing numbers, and they machine a complete new oil pump housing but use the same internals and sleeve the lay shaft . Anyway here are some photos of the parts... Update Can't upload photos here?

NKE Bearing numbers: NJ206-E-TVP3 NJ304-E-TVP3. When they machine the extension housing it takes out the screw holes for the oil pump so they have made a larger oil pump housing but still use the original pump gears. Also a bush goes on the Layshaft to fit the bigger bearing

How important is it to do the modifikation ? I'm happy with my original, now 425 000 km on it. Are all refurnished gearboxes from Ashcroft in this stile ? If not, what is the price for the special ones ?

I have seen a few layshaft bearings / housings destroyed - the cost of the HD bearing is £160 extra on top of the rebuild costs

The later model r380 suffix k and L were a stronger box than a suffix J. They had bigger bearings on the pinion shaft and layshaft but they kept the same said bearings in the extension housing which are prone to fail in a remapped td5 or in my case a 2.8 tgv

When we last rebuilt a TD5 box, the front layshaft bearing had destroyed itself and the casing. JP machined and bushed the casing and I got hold of a used front cover from Ashcroft - however, the layshaft bearing is only half supported in the main casing, so we made a ring to fit inside the front cover to support the rest of the bearing JP and I could not find the logic of this original design

Simply bearings have a size finder so maybe type in the inner diameter , and the outer diameter and width that you want to upgrade to??

These bearings are NJ series - I think the originals were inch types (been a long time since I measured up) I will do a bit of measuring tomorrow and see the shaft diameter vs outer diameter (which means machining the casing) and the width (limited space)

When I looked at the Winchester page, it looks like they fit a bush to the layshaft bearing inner - which is why it is confusing to find the right bearing

Funny, I started looking at the bearings as the cost of shipping rebuild kits from UK to Sweden is getting very silly. With customs, tax, post and an additional admin charge it’s about a 59% mark up. Anyway, trying to find all the different bearings I agree is not easy, and I was just looking for the standard ones…

Very simple. You buy a complete gearbox from ashcroft with the modifikation.I believe there are some other surprises hidden ?

That is quite an expensive option! Looks like they add a bush to the inner bearing, and machine the casing, so this makes it difficult to find the right one - I know it is an NKE brand
