off of this guide to nuzlocking romhacks i thought prismatic moon would be about as simple as nuzlocking any old drayano hack but holyyyy was i wrong, instead of resetting over and over again i decided to do a casual playthrough with healing items and such, and the game is very unforgiving, ive practically deemed it impossible to beat without an increased level cap on the Lana water trial, that fight is the most unforgiving fight there is, rain+speed boost aura with a fully evolved mon along w an actual viable sos call genuinely defeated me. Even though the game is tough i still hughly reccomend it its a lot of fun. Finally, thank you for such an informative video drew very cool 10/10 ign

I've only done a couple nuzlockes on vanilla games in the past, but I've been getting into a lot of nuzlocke videos recently so I decided to try Radical Red on hardcore. After many resets I did at least manage to beat Brock before I quit, but I only realized how insanely bad an idea that was after watching this video. I knew something fucky was going on with the AI but I didn't realize it will straight up just read your switches if you fuck around too much. Nevertheless, I kept playing through hardcore normally and it's just about the perfect difficulty for my tactically challenged ass

I been playing XG: Next Gen, and while its rough around the edges, its a great experience. Having to fight your encounters with the Trainer ai and shadow moves is pretty hard, but it makes you think a lot about strategies. All double battles, tons of buffs and all in the 3D engine of Pokemon XD:Gale of Darkness
@Jacob-nh9yv Жыл бұрын
To speak on ren plat I think it’s amazing because it is hyper consistent. With repel Manips and a lot of guaranteed encounters like milotic, togekiss, gliscor, and a bunch of other gift Pokémon like all the starters, eevee, and Beldum. There’s also a lot of thought that needs to go into deciding what encounters in an area are worth going for such as scyther being guaranteed but if you take it you lose out on the possibility of Skarmory. With the shear magnitude of honey trees you can also guarantee a lot of those encounters as they are very similar route to route but can lose out on other good mons. Some of the best examples out of this is snorlax, ambipom and heracross. As well the infinite tms and easy access to move relearner and deleter makes it easy to completely change how a mon is used every fight. There are still the exceptions of mons like togekiss which get loses access to its old moves once it evolves which is unfortunate because it has at least 6 moves that it loves to have. With the changes to balance pretty much every Pokémon is usable with minimal exceptions. The only encounter that I consistently found myself not using is whismur and is without a doubt the worst pokemon in this game. It’s encountered before the first gym and has a descent chance to find it and there isn’t a single battle I can think of where it’s useful. It barely even works as a dupe as there’s only one other place you can encounter it.

Great list, it coincides with many or all of the hacks I've been looking at and introducing to friends to casually Nuzlocke. Not sure if you've checked in on Radical Red/Unbound recently but they both got an updated Hardcore/Insanity AI that actively cheats way more than it did previously. This includes completely lack of consistency in decision-making (the AI can choose to swap into resistances, or stay in and click certain moves in the exact same situations. You can check within the same opener of a battle that it does different things). Even the person who does the AI guide has talked about how things have changed and strats need to be completely reworked. As an intermediate or so player myself, the new AI is crazy annoying since it's almost impossible to do regular nuzlocke planning, especially with switching more than twice activating parts of the AI like clicking random move to catch a switch in with a surprise attack type.
@Drxxyt Жыл бұрын
i agree. the ai is very unique I guess the fact that it can read some of the stuff you have isn't for everyone. I will say though players have taken advantage of this like for example putting rapid spin on a pokemon so the ai doesn't go for hazzards

As someone who hasn't really played past gen 3, I find myself surprisingly reticent to play expansion hacks adding mons from gen 8 for example. Yeah, my favourite part of playing HGSS was grinding my pokemon from level 40 to level 50 between the 8th gym and the elite four, fighting underlevelled trainers in kanto until I'm given the privilege of grinding up to level 70 in route 26 again off of level 30-40 pokemon, beating the elite four again so that I can grind to level 80 off of level 40-50 pokemon, doing all of this with no lucky egg unless you go to one specific route to find a 1% chansey with a 5% rate of having a lucky egg. I also loved the new pokemon like gyarados, gengar, ledian, furret, noctowl, golem, ariados, shuckle, delibird and stantler. They were all so cool to catch and use! The gym leaders also used a lot of new pokemon, like Bugsy's Scizor, Jasmine's Skarmory, Chuck's Heracross, Morty's Misdreavus and Falkner's Noctowl!

Why is it that 90% of recommended hacks are of remakes of the main series games. There’s way to many great games with custom regions that take way longer to make and are a lot more fun with their own story, region, and bosses. I swear they never get as much love as the remakes for already made games
@FiboSai Жыл бұрын
The reason is probably that most of those don't exclusively focus on gameplay, which makes them less attractive for nuzlocke players. And most of the content on rom hacks currently is nuzlockes and challenge runs, so custom hacks that focus more on story and worldbuilding don't get as much exposure. My personal favorite hack I've played recently was Fire Red: Rocket Edition. The story was amazing, albeit very strange at the end, and the gameplay has a very creative twist. But it really isn't that challenging, and its structure makes it awkward to nuzlocke, so if that is the reason you play Pokemon, this is unfortunately not the game for you.

@porpoise8160 Жыл бұрын
Wait an insane mode unbound nuzlocke is possible?
@Glitchy1988 Жыл бұрын
I tried radical red but the AI seems to cheat and always knows what your going to use. It's like those very early yugioh games where the AI knows exactly what's in your hand and what you've played face down. And yes, this was when playing "supposedly" the non challenge mode. I wanted to play it because of all the new features but the ridiculous artificial difficulty put me off.
@dm9910 Жыл бұрын
Unless you turn on the insane difficulty, the AI does not know what you're going to use. It does know your sets/items though, so it might be able to "predict" your moves in a sense. It also tries to avoid triggering berries that weaken SE moves for example. This isn't really cheating by the AI imo since their sets are documented too. Another thing to note is that the AI can act randomly under the right circumstances - for example if it sees a KO with multiple moves it can use any of them, which could surprise you if you were expecting it to use the most obvious high power move. In general though it's pretty easy to demonstrate that it does not know your move selections or switches. For example, if you bring a ground type or volt absorber to the electric gym, you will have tons of opportunities to switch into it for free. I've brought a Lanturn to Lt Surge in several of my playthroughs and can reliably heal it to full off from Volt Absorb, which obviously wouldn't work as a strategy if the AI actually cheated.

Once upon a time, there was a mighty Pokémon named Seaking. Seaking lived in a vast and wondrous world filled with all kinds of fascinating creatures. Seaking was a fierce fighter, known for its powerful horn and ability to swim at incredible speeds. But despite its strength, Seaking was also kind and gentle, always ready to help its friends in need. One day, a young trainer came to the world, seeking to catch and train Seaking. The trainer was brave and determined, but Seaking was no easy catch. Every time the trainer tried to throw a Poké Ball, Seaking would dodge and swim away, showing just how fast and agile it truly was. But the trainer was not discouraged. They continued to train and work hard, always seeking to improve their skills. And finally, after many attempts, they succeeded in capturing Seaking. From that day forward, the trainer and Seaking traveled the world together, taking on all comers and becoming the best of friends. And so, as the sun sets on this world of wonder and adventure, we can remember the bravery and determination of the young trainer and the power and grace of the mighty Seaking. Goodnight.
