12:38 While Body Slam is approx effective 95 with the badge boost, there are definitely targets with low enough special for Confusion to come out ahead. Which is better is definitely a difficult thing to keep track of battle-to-battle.

Yea, that's where optimization comes into play looking at the numbers. It gets easier when you get to midgame but still a factor!

The problem with Deoxys is that it loses its Glass Cannon special side, and it basically turns into Gen 1 Alakazam with a usable Attack.

An interesting example of how min-maxing can often be better for solo runs than being balanced across the board (although it's hard to go wrong with Arceus' stats). The Psychic typing and 120 stats make it feel almost like Mew+.

Spot on. Mew with a much better Brock split, better overall moves, more stats, and a special boosting move, although when I get around to the Mew redo, we likely won't use Swords Dance still.

I love the idea of allowing Plates. I have used pokered disassembly before and know how to add a pokemon. Changing the "Plate" in this case just means that Matt changed the Type in the code which is as simple as changing the word "Normal" to "Psychic". The hardest part about adding a pokemon is the sprite and sometimes rearranging databanks. Moves and stats are really easy. The reason why Matt didn't provide a link to every type in the Google Drve is that he would have to take the time to change that type and make the ROM for each type. Not hard, but would take a few minutes and he has videos to make.

Oh and if I was to code Judgment for a Legend Plate, I would simply create a new Type that is Super Effective against everything and assign the move that Type.

Oh yea, I have all the data banks expanded and even expanded the default back sprite size to give more freedom for actual good backsprites. You could do held items but you know the drill, I want everything to be vanilla outside of what I'm running but it's a good idea. You are right about the time. Testing out a few types was a little too much for me tbh but I didn't want to do only normal but have another type actually be better.

I think a funny pokemon to run will be SV Gallade. That pokemon has some nice beginning moves, all crit boosting.

There's also a fish in SV that gets all the high crit moves but I don't do very many non-legendary/pseudo pokemon these days. Obstagoon has Night Slash but still fell short.

Appreciate the upload Matt. Liked hearing your thoughts on held items and abilities for cross gen runs. I think it would be fun to see pokemon with signature abilites or held items being translated to earlier gens. Could make a fun little VS challenge to see which forms of a pokemon would be best in gen 1. Like do all the rotom appliances

Rotom has some unique typings for sure. I've dug a little into it at one point but nothing major but I'd love to do a crazy video like testing every variant and showing them but I just don't got any incentive to spend that much time! I put a crazy amount of work into Dialga vs Palkia just to have it get the same views, haha. It's tough to balance!

Curious about a bug type arceus. With the moves and tms it would steamroll through most pokemon, bulky psychic types and Misty's Starmie would be easier I'd assume. Blaine could be hard, but you have TM for Earthquake for that (plus setup with either calm mind and/or swords dance).

I'm sure it would be alright but you wouldn't get a bug move until after Giovanni! Trying to be optimal, the types that get moves earlier in the game just gave the best results.

You are correct but ultimately I just decided that 'simulating a plate' just meant changing the type for this run since I'm actually not holding an item. If you got the move earlier, it coulda made a difference but I don't think it would change the run much.

Maybe in a vacuum but you wouldn't get a bug move until after Giovanni and just be using non-STAB moves for all but the last 6 battles. I'd have to think Normal with early boost to Quick Attack and Body Slam, Psychic as we saw, or Water with Bubble Beam boost into Surf has to be better!

Having done minimal research on bulbapedia - Arceus is a normal type, plates need acquired by the player. I could see an argument for no plate whatsoever Normal Arceus. It looks like you'd catch it as a Normal type with no held item. Obviously there's a lot of nuance trying to put these new designs in a nearly 30yo game.

Well you'd acquire all the plates before you saw the Pokemon. It's basically an event only mythical in the MSGs that is always level 100. With it's ability and gimmick, you have to not put yourself in a box by thinking so literal!

It is really hit or miss. Kadabra is awesome in Red. Pidgey looks like an actual young momster bird yet Shelder looks like a small kids attempt to make a clamp with eyes. Green has a "what were they thinking" Mew but Porygon is at his best ever. That said, they looked more like monsters rather than "cute pets that will fight until someone faints"
