Sorry if I seem a bit rude but I really do NOT agree with the twist up rank "oh spread can basically all the bosses so why would you need twist up" but the very fact it can hit almost all the bosses would AT LEAST PUT IT IN THE B TIER. And it's range is much better than spread. I'm not trying to to hate or buge my opinion in your ranking I'm not usually like this but I just got heated and needed to tell you what I think.

In my opinion, I think the most important thing about a weapon is if it does it's job well. It's the reason why you should buy the weapon.

I mean I was basically taking that into account when it came to the usefulness of a weapon. So even while Chaser for example, its purpose is to deal half as much damage in exchange for the attacks to home in on the closest target. The problem is that a good amount of the time, the shots don't even go where you want them to go! So even Chaser doesn't do it's job very well. The main reason Crackshot can get away with it more is because you can aim it more easily for the homing part of the attack to hit the boss, and also the fact that it's 2 shots in one.

@@MrKap Chaser will always be homing for something, but mainly damage hit boxes that you are supposed to shoot. Take Cagney for example, the main attack is shooting plants your supposed to hit. If Chaser was still aiming for the boss, it wouldn't be doing it's job because your supposed to shoot it. And I don't find Crackshot's homing abilities to accurate to where the boss is, if it's moving

@@venus5350 Yeah, you gotta like predict their movements more for Crackshots uncracked shot to home in on the boss correctly, but I don't find this terribly difficult to do. You are right about the Cagney Carnation example. For me the reason why I don't like it is with a boss like Cagney Carnation, you really just want to get past the phases as fast as possible and with other weapons you can just quickly like to the side or wherever the plant things are coming from and easily dispose of them, and then quickly look back at the boss and still do massive damage. Chaser on the other hand heavily increases the amount of time it takes to get by phases, especially when there are a lot of minion trying to come after you. It's rather preferably in my opinion to try to ignore the minions for some time on most of the boss fights and deal damage to the boss, then when it becomes too hectic or the boss is transitioning to another phase or sum you can just quickly turn around and dispose of the minions. In the end, you are right, and Chaser can be helpful with Cagney Carnation, but it's strictly used as a "side piece" or "side weapon" which tells me by itself it's not too great. That's why I ranked it low on the tier list, in my opinion, you don't really NEED Chaser most of the time and the times you DO use it, it's just for convenience for a small part of a phase or 2. Just a bit more niche than other weapons and the fact that it doesn't stand up by itself very well, it falls a bit flat for me. Sorry for the long comment, but I wanted to engage with your comment and explain my thought process about the matter!

Wow, chaser was underrated hard. Its damaging output is a fair bit better then it would seem at first considering it lands about 95% of the time even when your not even aiming, meaning you can easily just focus on dodging and putting boss fights on a sort of time limit, allowing you to focus on dodging. Also converge gets outright NUTTY if you glue your finger to the lock key and just jump to move

I would have to disagree with Chaser being underrated. Its purpose is very clear, but at least 80% of the time it's not needed or not as good for a boss than you might think. ESPECIALLY depending on the boss, it's very normal for the shots to not even hit the boss and instead just straight up disappear or hit a minion or something. Just because it's a homing shot doesn't immediately mean it's good in my opinion. There is also the fact that Crackshot does this but is twice as versatile. Crackshot can suffer from the same inaccuracy problems as Chaser, but then you can just use it like a normal shot. The burst damage of ~6 is the perfect amount of damage since the usual minion health is around 5 or sometimes 10. Converge is pretty decent once you start using it a bit, but it just gets outclassed by a lot of the weapons in the game and since you HAVE to lock yourself in place to be even a little bit accurate from anything past breathing distance, your movement is extremely limited, and you end up getting into tricky situations and risk taking hits. Converge is not bad, but A tier good? Nah. I appreciate the comment!

@@MrKap I’d disagree that crackshot is better tbh, both have their uses. There are a couple of instances were bosses move too quick, so crackshot’s direct homing end up missing. One scenario I found with this happening was during Saltbaker’s final phase, I had more success finishing him off with chaser than crackshot.

@@Perces1998 You are right about Chef Saltbakers last phase and you honestly SHOULD bring Chaser to the Saltbaker fight because it really helps with actually hitting him, but in the end this boss is an exception in my opinion rather than a widespread problem for Crackshot. Even if you have these inaccuracies, you can mitigate this problem heavily by just angling your shot ahead of the boss, kind of predicting where they're gonna be instead of just shooting wildly in the air. Chaser definitely shows it's use for a COUPLE of the boss fights, but Crackshot works effectively for a majority of the boss fights and can be reliably brought for almost every boss fight in my opinion; and this is mainly because it can TURN from a homing shot to a normal shot that does great burst damage. Crackshots versatility in that way makes it way more viable for a lot more of the boss fights than Chaser. What do you think?

I personally like Twist-Up and think it has one of the best EX moves in the game (not better than Roundabout, but still good), but as much as I love Twist-Up, I have to admit that it is that type of weapon that is not for everyone. But now, I don't think Twist-Up is a worst Roundabout at all.

honestly great tier list! however i found giant ghost pretty good on certain bosses once you get good at it, like on phantom express (ironicly enough) you can hit everything pretty easily while killing the small pumpkin guys and it heavily reduces their speed which makes the final phase a breeze for the most part. it’s still difficult to use and i honestly agree with it being C but if used effectively it can be insane

Glad you commented on Potato Kings video, his reasoning for Twister felt rather weak and the footage he chose to show didn't exactly fill me with confidence in his reasoning. Also really happy you decided to rank the ex attack with the weapon, it actually boggles my mind when people do it separately because its a part of the weapon. I can't use the EX of Spread shot with the regular fire of roundabout so why would you rank them seperatly.

I agree with you that Potato King's reasons for Twist Up being good were weak and rather easy to dispute/argue against, and also his footage showing the weapon was not very good and could easily see him missing like at least 50% of his shots lol. I also don't understand why people would rank the EX separately either! Almost all the tier lists on TierMaker.com separated the shots and EX's and even the uncharged version of the Charge weapon? That doesn't make any sense to me! Why would you rank things like that separately? It's a part of the weapon and can greatly affect the weapons viability and ranking. People have commented that I "forgot to rank the uncharged shot" or "I forgot to rank the mini bullets". First off, they're apart of another weapon really, so why would I rank it separately? And second, where do you THINK I'm going to rank the uncharged shot and mini bullets? In A tier? XD. Both are designed that way for obvious reasons and are not MEANT to be good by themselves... I really appreciate the comment!

The Converge is AMAZING in run-n-gun stages. I'm also glad other people like this weapon, It's one of my favorite weapons in the game right next to Roundabout in 2nd and Crackshot in 3rd. I was able to get an A+ on MANY bosses with Converge and Roundabout together (I used Converge more, by the way). It's better than you think.

Not sure how I only just found this video but this is great stuff! Looking back on my twist up segment, there’s definitely some stuff I would’ve worded differently and if I could redo it I’d probably try to be a BIT more objective about it. But while I still stand by my point of it being very good, this video definitely changed up my perspective on the shot and considering your argument that spread is really just better for a majority of the bosses I mentioned, honestly, I’d probably give it an A tier if I made the list today. Ah sick man! It's great to see you here! I think the thing I realized today is that I heavily prefer looking at the stats and quirks of the weapon to really sell the placements on the tier list. At the time, the quirks for Twist Up were not enjoyable for me and I ranked it C tier because I was being too subjective about that. Then I decided to really get into it and even released a video talking about if Twist Up is good or not, and realized that it really does have a bit more versatility than other usual weapons, like Lobber or Roundabout. I coouuulldd see it in A tier, but my placement would be high B tier because it really can work, but it takes more effort and more consistent gameplay than a weapon like Crackshot or Roundabout (which accompanied with other aspects like damage and versatility make them S tier for me). I still do generally think that Twist Up's range being so close to Spread is really what finally buries it under A tier for me. I appreciate the respectful comment!

Given that you [can] use two weapons in any given fight, I think a weapon that is really good against *a* phase of a[/many] boss fight[s] ought to be ranked highly *given that you can use another weapon to deal with its weaknesses*. At least potentially. Or, to put it another way, what's more relevant is the ranking of given *pairs* of weapons.

While you're not wrong, it would cause a weird dilemma in which you could technically just use Chaser/Crackshot with every weapon combo and with that logic it could be considered "good" and ranked highly. In my opinion, if a weapon only shines if it's with another weapon and is not viable by itself, then I don't see the weapon itself being very high in a tier list, and definitely not S tier. I believe the weapon needs to stand out itself for it to be ranked highly, which is why I ranked Roundabout and Crackshot in S tier. They both hold their own really well, work for almost every boss fight, and synergize very well with other weapons, especially Crackshot. Shots like Twist Up and Converge can be better if you combo it with another weapon, but then you are literally making up for the "badness" of those weapons which are more situational and harder to use, which already tells you where it should be ranked. I did consider wielding 2 different weapons when ranking each weapon, but I personally wouldn't say it's the key factor in ranking a weapon. I appreciate the comment!

Although I still don't use it often, I can definitely recognize it's a powerhouse of a weapon and takes an experienced player to really take advantage of the weapons capabilities. A great weapon for many of the boss fights!

Now, I don't want to add further to the twist-up debate, but I often find spread achingly difficult to use. It doesn’t reach far enough for me to really feel like I can really be in control of where I am during the boss, which wouldn’t be a problem, if the spot spread wants you to be is where you're most likely to get hit if you're not really familiar with the bosses down to attack patterns. Twist-up isn't the best, but positionally, I find it a bit easier to use, even though I know spread is technically better. Really I think it comes down to experience.

Well the thing with Twist Up is it also takes skill to use, and I would argue more of it. Naturally, the weapon is more comprehensible and easier to use from range, but then you'll often find yourself having to position awkwardly to hit your shots. Spread is easier to manage and its DPS makes up for it. You just gotta know what situation to use it, then bam it's effective; Twist Up you gotta constantly change how you use it to get the most out of it, without any DPS increase to make up for it.

The best build is Crackshot as Primary Weapon, Spreadshot as Secondary Weapon, Astral Cookie as the charm and Super Art 2 for S Ranks but Super Art 3 if not for S Rank. Crackshot is the most versatile and helps you focus on dodging (my advice is to bind Dash to left shoulder button and Shoot to right, so you can keep your finger on the face button bound to jump). Spreadshot, as you said, is fairly versatile, but is easily very good when paired with the range of Crackshot, allowing it to do its specialty without risk of putting Cuphead in a situation where he can’t hit the boss due to the potential use of Crackshot in those circumstances. Basically, it does one job, and it does it very, very well and that job comes up very often. Astral Cookie gives a double jump, parry dash (which means you can parry horizontal projectiles far more easily as you don’t need to leave the ground), an extra HP point (making it literally an objectively better heart charm) and also an invincible roll, which is just a slightly worse Smoke Bomb as it can’t be used in the air. If for some reason, you don’t want to use Astral Cookie, the best charm is Smoke Bomb for regular bosses and Divine Relic for plane fights, with Super Art 1.

I honestly think that the damage supers most of the time are useless because most Exs do more damage then them like Charge, Spread{ If you hit all 8 bullets} And even Converge and if you are using Invicibility with Spread you can go inside the boss and do MASSIVE DAMAGE doing way more than Energy beam and Giant Ghost. Also I think Chalice,s super art 2 is actually the best super of Chalice and Is a S tier because not only can this easily be used to S rank bosses but also is very useful in challenges like No jumping.

I see what you mean by your first point. I most of the time prefer spamming EX's rather than Super, but Energy Beam at the very least is a means to deal that guaranteed damage rather than having to stand close to the boss and spamming EX's, leaving your vulnerable. Invincibility honestly doesn't last long enough, and you don't get enough time to really capitalize on going inside the boss and spamming Spread shots because you still have to leave their hitbox before exiting Invincibility, so you really only have like 3 seconds of Invincibility that you can realistically use. Ms. Chalice's Super II is really outshined by Spiral Pillar which does great damage, or Ghostly Barrage that deals massive damage and gives you a free parry. For a Super to simply give you 1 HP is really underwhelming and unnecessary considering she already has 4 HP and a dodge roll to "cheese" most bosses. Challenges are too niche of a thing and not something I would like to rank a tier list on, so I didn't take that into account just so you know. Overall, her Super II is just... unnecessary. Like you mentioned at the beginning, I'd prefer just spamming EX's and dealing massive damage rather than receive an extra HP.

Thank you! I really wanted to create a more objectively based tier list (with some exceptions lol), looking at each individual part of a weapon separately and ranking based on practicality overall. That's why I still find Twist Up much more impractical than the weapons higher on the tier list although I now believe that I ranked Twist Up a bit too harshly.

I remember the time I did a Lobber Only challenge, and I was rather shocked at how effective it was for nearly every boss in the game! So underrated. Oh yeah, and I hate the twist up with every fibre of my being. 6:49 An even better example is during the moonshine mod boss. The shots go through the top two wooden platforms, so if you shoot upwards from the very top, they can bounce for a long time and essentially make a wall of death of your enemies. 14:50 Ah yes. I remember watching that. He was doing so well until he got to twist up. I thought he could earn my respect. Backign up your point on twist up, that was the first weapon I used in a single weapon challenge, as I already considered it to be the worst in the game. After completing it, that opinion had increased by 1100%. So many bosses I fought in my lobber only challenge had me thinking “Lobber does this WAY better than twist up did!” In summary, Twist up is a crappy version of Lobber. 24:01 Oh my god yes! I've heard a lot of people make the same general argument that "Oh (insert weapon here) can be used here, it should be in a high tier!", and the fallacy that argument creates is that it completely disregards every other charm (in this case) and the fact that essentially every other charm is probably better in that situation and other charms can be way more widely used across all boss fights. The only charm I really need to mention here is Heart Ring because it is BY FAR the best charm in the game. Some of the other charms are amazing as well, but Heart Ring takes the cake. You get free health with no damage nerf and all you gotta do is parry, which you were already going to do anyways, ESPECIALLY if you're going for an A+ or S rank. On top of this, combining it with Crackshot gives you essentially free health ON DEMAND! Just EX, parry the planet orb, and you either just got closer to getting a free 1 HP, or got 1 HP for just using your EX! You can probably imagine now that this charm can COMPLETELY overshadow the lesser useful charms like Twin Hearts because of its damage nerf and Parry Sugar because it's not very necessary unless you struggle with parries. I can go on and give more reasons for Whetstone being low on the tier list, but simply other charms are better than dealing a little extra damage for very few phases.

There is however one mistake you have made in the tier list. Just as you didn't include any of the other charms for not dealing damage I think you shouldn't have included the regular Super art 2 and Ms. Chalice's since they also don't deal any damage and thus can't be classified as weapons.

Those DLC weapons (except Crackshoot) are not really worth using often, but when they are it absolutely rules. For example Twist Up--> Howling Aces (on every phase except second with Crackshoot), Chef Salbaker (first phase, rest with Chaser. Just try it, I am dead serious. Chaser carries, you can do second phase decently, and with last one it makes your life so much easier, Crackshoot doesn't even land a half of it's shots in this phase!) Converge--> Phantom Express (first, maybe even second and third phases, depends if you are using Spread or Crackshoot as your second weapon)

Heart ring is good and all but with bosses like sally stageplay where parries are scarce I find that shield pal is really good, it helps your super meter and hp. Encouraging parries. Shield pal is just really good for perfection especially since you can keep it around, use ex shots exclusively after, and it isn’t some aim based damage

To be fair, I believe his points aren't completely wrong, but he didn't really support his arguments very well. After you take your time and REALLY use Twist Up, it's not a bad weapon and I would say it would be fine in B tier. I'd still personally use other weapons, but you can definitely use it more versatile like if you are good at angling and positioning. Still, he wasn't able to really support his argument by actually talking about the weapon and it's pros and cons. I appreciate the kind words and comment!

I hope Roundabout is where it deserves. By far my favorite weapon in the game, even above Crackshot (close, though!). Playing through Cuphead again after a long break to prep for a New Year's goal of improving at the game and just…ah. My beloved. Such an awesome weapon. Edit: Excellent. Good. All is as it should be. I think what makes twist up worse than roundabout is the learning curve. Once you get god with twist up it quickly becomes super effective.

I basically beat the entire game with chaser and spread with smoke bomb. Made it so I basically only had to focus on dodging, and could maximize damage with spread when dodging wasn’t really required. Also I found chaser to do quite a lot of damage. As long as you aim it in the general direction it hit far more often than the other weapons I tried. Then again I’m incredibly bad at aiming precisely and dodging at the same time.

When i face bosses like Cagney, i use Spread on the first phase while dodging his projectiles and i use Crackshot for his last phase. For me i mostly use Crackshot when i'm focusing on dodging attacks. Crackshot IMO is really good for slow bosses or bosses that dont move and it's only weakness is that it also targets minions or projectiles that you can shoot (EX: Ribby & Croaks firefly) which makes it hard to deal damage to the boss while trying to dodge.

I feel like one way you can make Giant Ghost effective enough is using Roundabout because of how turning around makes your damage spread you could turn around and use Giant Ghost and turn around constantly all while still dealing Roundabout damage and DPS

@@MrKap Hopefully that will help make Giant Ghost look a little more useful than we give it credit for, but still honestly Giant Ghost still isn’t fun to use, but at least this strategy could make bosses and specific boss Wurner Wurman’s last phase a a joke when you think about it. This probably ain’t gonna effect Giant Ghosts tier ranking the slightest, but my way of using Giant Ghost is something to note. Although this ain’t always gonna be effective especially for bosses like Baroness Von Bon Bon it makes me feel like I am using Giant Ghost efficiently even when I miss most of my hits.

Nice, i also love the Charge Shot/ Crack Shot combo. Charge does huge damage per hit, and the Crack Shot covers Charge's weaknesses pretty well. If there are fast moving minions trying to overwhelm me while using the Charge, i'll just pull out the Crack Shot and quickly deal with em. Great combo.

Bit late but with the charge when you dash it will shoot it. This might no sound bad but if you use miss.Chalice you practically can’t parry if the boss is moving or on the opposite side of when you dash.

My favorite combo is crackshot and spread, because crackshot is good for moving targets, plus it’s just a better chaser, and spread is good for bosses up close. The only downside to crackshot is that sometimes it hits what you don’t want to hit, like the fireballs in grim matchstick stage 3, and sometimes it does the exact opposite, like in phantom express with the ghosts and pumpkins.

twist up is for people that know how to use it for the high damage spread is good for background for slow moving bosses lobber is good for bosses that let you set up the lobber pillar and use it at a good angle chaser is good for people that know how to dodge well and can dodge until they die to the bullets converge is good for bosses that have spots you can shoot them with the converged version or the beam charge is good for bosses that have times you can rack up alot of damage in a quick amount of time (bosses that stay still alot) crackshot is basically chaser but better because of the EX shot and damage so people that know how to dodge well and like big damage should use it peashooter is just for people with good aim and thats pretty much all about peashooter roundabout is pretty much good for everything

I bought roundabout for my first time playing the game, and then used the secret coin and the three coins from felix the cat guy to get spreader. This helped me kill Rootpack, Goopey Le Grand and Ribby & Croaks easily, but I'll continue to edit for my new plans. I'll probs get lobber next judging by how secretly OP it is and use it to replace roundabout, or replace spreader to make easier boss fights more fun. Nevermind about roundabout and spreader, I'm gonna get chargeshot to use with lobber. This will have up and down results, but as long as it kills a boss good enough, I'll support my discision.

I didn't know Lobber was underrated. In my mind it fits the archetype of low attack speed/high attack power and slightly decreased or differently utilised range, which is a formula I seen before, so it makes sense as a payoff to me. I just got the game and my first purchase was Spreadshot which helped a lot with cleaning out the first Run 'n' Gun. When watching others play the game my dream was Spread and Roundabout, so I'm wondering between the latter or a charm for my next purchase.

I say Twist Up definitely needs a buff, and maybe upping its damage could work, but I feel like its range is really lacking and is what causes this weapon to feel terrible to use. It has such a short range horizontally, that you are basically using Spread but going up instead, which at that point why not use Spread? If it had its range increased slightly (maybe by like 20-25%?) then the shots could go further and you can be in more comfortable spots of the stage and also consistently deal damage from a safer place. Also buffing the fire rate/speed of the projectiles would work as well so you can hit more consistently. It's hard in the end, but I feel like those aren't terrible ideas.

Whetstone is actually good if you’re in a tight spot, also its high damage kills things instantly, like ads or enemies on run n gun stages. You can also take advantage of this damage on plane levels when you get close to bosses, it really adds up! I feel like all the whetstone hate comes from people that never use it/don’t give it a chance. Sure it’s not for everyone, but it’s not terrible!

Chaser is just broken. For 0.9 less dps over crackshot and a worse ex move (I only use ex moves to stall in mid-air to dodge, then it doesn't matter what it is, I just use supers) every shot you shoot will hit. Crackshot doesn't works nearly as well as chaser in goopy (last phase is so fast when spamming chaser ex) sally last phase, phantom express last phase, howling aces second phase (again, this phase is over in 20-30 seconds when using chaser but much longer with crackshot) and chef saltbaker. The only bosses I use crackshot on are cagney, bon bon, rumor, brineybeard, phantom express (it does a better job at taking out the pumpkins) king dice (only for chips and pip and dot, I use roundabout for the rest and sometimes a little in chips) glumstone last phase, howling aces and mortimer freeze. Also, Whetstone is far too low. Cala Maria and Dr Kahls robots first phases are cheesed with whetstone, and it can be useful for every plane boss because of summons. However, never use whetstone as a charm. Equip divine relic, which has whetstone but also smoke bomb, heartring and coffee.

Well, I can't help but feel that what you said is a bit counterintuitive to what you are trying to say. You still mentioned quite a lot of bosses that Crackshot is good in, and you didn't mention as many bosses for Chaser. Chaser definitely shines most when the boss is moving a lot, but that can be alleviated most of the time by just aiming Crackshot correctly; and it's not like you're ALWAYS hitting with Chaser either. Any boss that has minions, the Chaser shots will commonly home in on minions rather than where you want the shots to go. It's why I like Crackshot more. Since Crackshot propels forwards before cracking and turning into a homing attack, it makes Crackshot potentially more accurate when minions are around. Not to mention free health from Heart Ring, and passive damage via the EX. Also, you mention Whetstone as well, but also mention to equip Divine Relic; that's why the Whetstone Charm is so low. Why use the charm itself when you can just use Divine Relic? And it's also just not a charm most people are going to actively bring JUST because it works decently for a phase of a boss. For those reasons, I definitely believe Whetstone is low on the tier list and Crackshot supersedes Chaser.

I feel like giant ghost deserves to be a little higher. Mainly because the damage output is even further enhanced if you can manage to also pop shots into the enemy, which can be done by alternating up and down Instead of left and right (without lock) so that you can keep from turning around. You could also just use crackshot or roundabout. And the other benefit is that the hit rate is so high that it actually slows down enemy animations, which allows you to get more shots in if the boss is in a vulnerable animation. such as transformation or transitions. Sure it's not easy to use, but the reward for using it correctly is ridiculously overpowered.

Back in 2017 when I played this game religiously my strat for perfect rank no damage was charge shot and spread, the damage was unmatched and the only other weapons I’d use were roundabout (pre patch) and lobber Mastering charge shot and having spread for close up or hitting tons of minions made perfecting the expert game much easier Though roundabout was easily my favorite in the game and I didn’t even think it was that powerful

Naturally, Crackshot's EX is more utility and support based than pure damage, but I would say it can deal decent damage if used efficiently and correctly. The planet orb shoots 5 shots before dissipating, each dealing 3.5 damage. It's not a lot, but if you allow the orb to shoot 4 times, then parry it, it will home towards the boss and deal 14 damage. That's 3.5 x 4 + 14, which equals 28. To put that in perspective, that's the same damage as Lobber EX. Yes, it is slow and it's definitely not the best, but it can help with minions and deal passive damage while not even thinking. You're right though that it's not a good EX for purely damage, but that's why it makes up with its other utility, mainly free health for Heart Ring.
