Did I miss it or did you skip tomato sauce based pizzas? I mean, other than to say “red wine” for them.

Hello, I am so glad I found your channel. I have watched about half of your videos and love the clarity of information, and help with pronunciation. This video was fun for me because I spent the last three years living between Naples and Rome -so there was a lot of pizza around. Funny thing was, the majority of people actually drank beer with pizza. And besides having to learn to eat pizza with a knife and fork, not ordering wine was the oddest adjustment for this American lady. So here’s my question...What do you think is the characteristic in beer that they enjoy with the pizza pairing -the one that would take them from the local Falanghina etc? And is there that same character in a wine choice? I would love to learn to verbalize it if so...Thank you for all you have taught me so far!!

Interestingly, the pairing of beer and pizza has historical rather than taste-related origins: back in the 50's, when pizzerie in Italy became widely common, they were not allowed to sell beverages with abv>8%. So, basically, pizzerie could not sell wine, and the only other alcoholic drink left was beer. So, even after this prohibition was removed, Italians were so used to drink beer with pizza that we still do it now.
