Boss 302 had better casting cylinder heads. The material was more robust and contained copper for strength. Boss heads were fully cnc'd, bigger valves, stiffer valve springs capable of 7500rpm plus, bigger cams, forged Mahle pistons, forged rods, sodium filled exhaust valves. Not sure i missed anything.

@@fredwilliams7893 No that's incorrect. No coyote motor has ever come with forged pistons except factory supercharged gt500. The gen 2 came with forged rods but pistons still cast. Only the 2012-13 boss motors had forged mahle pistons. I know cause i have boss motor. If you want big power build motor with manley tuff rods, mahle forged pistons, billet oil pump gears and crank sprocket and and ARP head studs and 1k wheel all day and night on e85 no worries.

@@fredwilliams7893 Forged pistons are expensive, so rarely do they come on production car unless its a track car or supercharged. Mahle forged pistons are some of the best. My gen3r built boss should make 900wheel on e85

What exactly is the meaning of “modular” engine? Nobody at my local Ford dealer could even answer my question…. The first time I ever heard of modular engine was in my 2004 Ford chassis class C motor home with the Triton V10. Now I’m lucky enough to have just purchased my 2011 Shelby GT 500!

The term "modular" came from the modularity of the tooling at the factory in which the engines were built. These engines share bore spacing, allowing for modular tooling.

Do the coyote engines sound any different from one another generation to generation?

The biggest difference you'll here is from chassis to chassis, as muffler and resonator positions change from Gen 1, to Gen 2, and subsequently Gen 3. In the end, they all sound very similar.

Also worthy of noting, when Coyote swapping into a different chassis, the muffler placement makes a TON of difference in the sound of the Coyote. In the new edge swaps we've done, the mid mounted muffler makes them sound much more like a 2v or 4v 4.6L. The rear mounted mufflers on s197 and s550 chassis play a big part in how those Coyote cars sound.

I'm having some issues finding the answer to this question. When did a base GT cars with the 5.0 switch to a flat plane crankshaft? Everyone always talks about the GT350 motor getting it but not normal GT cars with the 5.0

Hey Austin. The have not, they are all cross plane traditional engines. The Voodoo is the only flat plane iteration of these engines and is only available in the GT350.

You don't really want the flat plane in a regular coyote, the gt350s vibrate themselves to pieces after a few thousand miles.

Gen 3 Coyotes actually utilize both port injection (traditional fuel injectors) as well as direct injection. It blends those two systems depending on what the vehicle is doing.

Not sure if we fully understand your question. As far as we're aware, there is no plans to add direct injection to the Predator engine as the DI requires different cylinder heads and may come into conflict with the supercharger's fitment.

We haven't seen anything that would suggest that dual injection would be necessary or a boon to the performance of the Predator. The number it made from the factory versus what the aftermarket has been capable of making with it are two distinctly different things. There's tons of these cars making 1000+ on port injection.

Is an f150 gen 2 shortblock the same as the mustang, and in the same model years?

@@jamesb1856 it is not. They are lower compression in Gen 2 F-150s, 10.5:1. As a complete engine, they feature different cams, different intake manifolds, cast iron exhaust manifolds instead of stainless steel, and a few other things as well.

@@jamesb1856 For 1st and 2ed gen I believe the only differences to the short block is the f150 version had lower compression pistons, a lower volume oil pump, and a smaller oil pan with no windage tray built into the pan gasket. The truck version also had a different timing cover that moved the alternator slightly more outboard. I believe the crank and rods were the same. There were also two versions of the block with 12mm and 11 head bolts. For a high boost application the 12mm bolts/studs are more desirable as they reach deep into the block and tie into the main webbing. The 11mm block the bolts only reach to about the level of the knock sensors and can crack in that location under extreme circumstances. I don't know about the 3rd gen.

Hey Gregory. We were focusing on Coyote and Coyote varients. These engines in the GT500 vary in deck height from the Coyotes and are considered "of a different family". All that being said, it sounds like a fantastic idea for another video!

dude... pushrod engines, solid axle and stuff like that are from the 60s. only americans still use stuff like that. there is nothing complicated with a dual overhead cam. but yeah if you compare ancient technology like pushrods, its complicated...

The difference is that they all sound like shit. Even if you put the traditional mustang exhaust. That everybody has always put on a mustang. Flow master 40 Original And H pipe. You could get close but you cannot replicate that original fox body sound. I wish ford would make the mustang sound like it did in the 80s
