I got fired on a Friday while grocery shopping. I’ve also been fired on a Friday while working out. Each time, my employer called me and told me not to come back. I was previously fired years ago on a Friday in the office… it was a forced resignation.

At some places I have worked, if they offered me six months of severance pay I’d happily accept the termination.

I learned a lot of lessons in life. Here is one of them. It's better to be in control of a situation, not at the mercy of it. I have a full-time and a part-time job. If the full-time employer fires me, I will ask the part-time employer for full-time status. I also have multiple sources of income. As you can see, I am not at the mercy of anybody. Most people are at the mercy of their employers. Some people do crazy things when they are fired or laid off. I heard this one guy call up his employer and made a bomb threat. Another time a woman was told she was fired and fainted. Employers don't care about their employees. All they care about is making a profit and protecting their reputation.

I might be terminated because I wasn’t on next month’s schedule, but the new employee they hired was. I will simply respond by saying, thank you for the opportunity for the short period of time. Sorry, my service wasn’t approved by your toxic manager. Good day. Then smile and walk away.

I always conduct a *MMM* or *3Ms* _Monday Managers Meeting_ to discuss the business plan and who’s getting terminated. I’m not opposed to terminating someone over the phone but I rather do it in person with at least another manager present. I had to terminate someone over the phone because it involved a serious life threatening situation with another employee and I couldn’t allowed the individual to come back to work after their day off. I know My employees feel Mondays are like walking on eggshells because they know Mondays is the day someone is going to be fired. I make it easier for everyone involved because it gives them time to work on a plan and it starts our week fresh. Tuesdays is our entire staff meeting and I rather discuss any new plans and sales tactics with the staff that are employed.

Their attitude and the tone reminds me of a line from GoT - "It always seems a bit abstract, doesn't it, other people dying?"

I was part of a larger termination effort by my retail 1:50 company. They got everyone who was being terminated on a conference call all at once and told us our positions were eliminated . They read a prepared statement that was scripted and the man doing it didn’t even look directly at the camera. They weren’t going to enact the layoffs form over a month and nobody from home office was in the store to ensure security . Not the wisest move. I am temporarily on my feet , but the followed none of the guidelines set forth in this video .

Yup don’t terminate an employee on a Friday!l Just happened to me and no outside support was provided. Felt hung out to dry. Companies always have lawyers and HR to protect their rights but nobody will protect your own but you!

Yea when he’s talking about signing the full release and getting legal counsel before you fire them because he knows that a lot of the time a termination merits a lawsuit by the former employee

It sounds like sound, compassionate advice to me. As a business owner or manager you have to always keep the legal side of things in mind as to not open yourself or your business up to litigation. Why do you feel this video is sleezy? What would you change to make it not sleezy?
@rashabelgrade

@@riggs20 I understand your point of view on the problem. I've had problems with my boss for more than 10 years. You don't want a conflict and then he hires a company to help him remove me away and make it look legal, that's why I say sleezy because they advise him how to do it. Now we are in court. He tried through false witnesses to remove me through written warnings, but he has one problem that he still doesn't know about. I recorded it all.He changed the company policy. I didn't want to sign it. We had a discussion and he said, you know, I have to protect myself. I said of course, but not in an illegal way. The best way to protect yourself is to do everything according to the law.

@@riggs20 It's not a problem that he behaves like that, the problem for me is to stay calm. The problem for me is that the state took away my right to solve my own problems with its laws and at the same time does nothing about it. Laws exist but it's as if they don't exist. Simply selective are applied.

I’m worried I’m on the chopping block at work and will be blindsided by termination soon. This video gave me some hope that maybe my boss won’t be as petty as I imagine... Wait a minute.... this video is for bosses who value practicing professionalism... nevermind I’m still worried *sigh*

Support unions, and if one is available to you then join it, and go to meetings. Buried in these expert guidelines is the lopsided Right to Work law, which in reality is a golden benefit to employers, like money in the bank. Again, unionize, because exploitation is bad, even if its agents are dressed nicely and speak softly.

I had the same thought... pretty f'ed up if you were liable for someone's car accident because you made them sad. Does that apply to relationship break ups too? What about bullying? etc.

Lawyers will sue over anything.
@_Fluorescent_

@@riggs20 this is the answer. It’s not about whether the lawsuit has merit, it’s about whether or not someone will try to sue you. Lawsuits are extremely expensive, time, consuming, and stressful. This is true, even if it ends up getting dropped. Best avoided altogether.

Conversation? Don't have a conversation. As soon as they utter the words your fired - say nothing and leave. Your not obligated to answer questions or sign anything. Don't waste your time - move on.
