The video is poorly named. The 3-6-1 system you talk about is the Cruyff dream formation and has been taught in La Masia for at least the last 30 years. It is not a system of the past neither is the 4-2-2-2. They were both conceived and have been used for a long period now. A more apt title for the video would be "Forgotten Formations of the Past". Other than that great work.

Yes I like them. Next concept suggestion: *Inswinging corners or outswinging corners,taking into advantage height or lack of it from the team attacking the cross,whether it provokes the goalkeeper to come and claim or not and how easy or hard it is to defend both. Great video btw

Just to mention, the system called 361 is in fact an old 3313 also called 343 diamond. that system was indeed very successful long ago when applied by louis van gaal's with Ajax 1995, and Bielsa with Argentina 1998 . an extremely attacking style where eveybody can participate attacking except only 3 defenders that stay at the back, one holding mid, two B2B mids who also cover the flanks, and an "enganche" playing just behind the striker with 2 wide players. the idea is to recover the ball quickly in the opponent half by a congested midfield pressing relentlessly, keeping possession until they score. and if there is a counter attack, there is already 3 defenders positioning themselves while the support get back into place. and I think you're right that is the system I'm predicting also to be the future.

I love th 4-2-2-2, but if the central pivots are stifled, for example what united did against leipzig, sitting in a compact 4-3-3, ball progression can be almost non existent.

I honestly think the numbering of formations is getting ridiculous. Just because you have your fullbacks pushing up doesn't mean its a 2 in the back formation. When Alba pushed up to the wing no one was saying how barca was playing a 235. Its just a 433 with the fullbacks pushed up. A 3-6-1 is merely a 3-4-2-1 that has been played by Italian sides for a while. Formations aren't that important now tbh because of the fluid formations managers bring in. Sure atelti play a 442 on paper but it shifts to a 532 on defense and a 4411 on offense. So can we must please stop with the weird formations making it seem likes its some new Revolution. Nobody called Hollands total football era a 2-5-3.
