Thank you, Jeffrey Kranz !!!!! This was a confirmation for me. I have been struggling to read the bible since I fully came into christ four years ago. Every year my goal was to read the entire bible, but I was making the mistakes of reading straight through. I know of so many plans and methods not, but none seem to sit well with me. Today, I told myself one of my goals for 2020 was to read the entire bible. I started researching on the web when I came across your page, and all I could say is WOW. Your explanation makes it seem so simple, but it is not one that someone will sit and think of if the holy spirit does not reveal it. Thank You for your help, Jeffrey Kranz, your explanation and thorough research has made it easier for me to know precisely which passages to read first and how to tackle the bible. I love the word of God, and I want to enjoy reading it. Ironically, I just finished reading Philemon before I came across your website. So my order is slightly off on the short books, but as I read it in one sitting, you are correct I was able to take it in even more.

I once read that Kings was originally able to fit in a single scroll when it was recorded in Hebrew, because ancient Hebrew lacked vowels. When it was translated into Greek (which did include vowels), the overall length of the book doubled, and it had to be split into two scrolls. Is any of this true?
@daisybrain94235 жыл бұрын
I am not at all an expert, but this seems very plausible to me, because in the Tanakh these double-books are still treated as one.

What is your favourite translation? I use a GNT and read it again using KJV . The GNT is so.easy to just pick up at anytime but it lacks the poetic beauty of the KJV. God bless.✝️🏴✝️ .

Do you realize that according to the AI chat bots in both Google and Bing, your word counts in the original languages for the biblical books is way off? Can you account for this discrepancy? How confident are you of your Logos software source?
@OverviewBible Жыл бұрын
"Way off" doesn't really help me in terms of discrepancies to account for, but you can see how I got to these word counts here: overviewbible.com/bible-word-counts-logos-word-lists/ These numbers about word count come from the NA27 (the Greek New Testament that is the basis for almost every modern Bible translation) and the Lexham Hebrew Bible (an edition of the Leningrad Codex, the oldest complete Hebrew Bible, with a sophisticated morphological tagging). For the few Aramaic portions, I used the NASB 1995 interlinear. All of these word counts were generated using the Logos edition of these documents. Given the extensive morphological metadata each of these editions have surrounding it, I feel it's safe to assume the word count is reliable. I trust Logos to give an accurate word count of these particular Logos resources as much as I'd trust Microsoft Word to give a reliable word count for a .docx file. But due to the amount of meticulous tagging involved in these works, I also trust Logos to give an accurate word count just as much as I'd trust Microsoft Excel to give an accurate cell count.

Also, isn't there a Judeo-Christian tradition that claims Jeremiah authored the book of Kings? I know it's uncertain, but if that were the case, then Jeremiah wrote the two longest books of the Bible.
@OverviewBible6 жыл бұрын
Hi, Ellie! The Talmud (teachings of the rabbis) does claim that Kings was written by Jeremiah. It puts forth a few better-known traditions on authorship as well, such as Ezra as the author of the Chronicles.

You should also add Luke + Acts => 38 k words... the same as Samuel
@OverviewBible2 жыл бұрын
Not really. Although they seem to be one continuous story, they were written as two books from the start. Samuel was originally a single work that was later divided.

I'm thinking of buying Logos. Can this program make a list of all the words in a given gospel based on their root, how often they occur, or how often they occur in each book?
@OverviewBible Жыл бұрын
It's been a while since I've attempted something like this, but I think this is totally doable-if not directly within Logos, then you could do 95% of the work in Logos and the other 5% in a spreadsheet. =)
