The mystery face from "New Cell Phone" is a cropped image of the ventriloquist's dummy from the 1978 film "Magic" starring Anthony Hopkins and Ann-Margret.

The first image might’ve been altered in photoshop so that’s why it’s not showing up in image searches. The original probably doesn’t have the double exposure
@Suko1207 ай бұрын
yea, the second exposure is clearly fake. you can tell because it's slightly blurred and because of that it smoothed out the film grain. it also has a very artifical smear effect applied to it that would never look like that with a real camera. What's interesting tho is that the double exposure of the kid on the far left has more of his face visible then is in frame. So they must have cropped the image after applying that effect.

23:59 Jesus, I think this is the image I saw when I was a kid. The memory is blurry, but I always thought that huge hole at the center was some kind of dirty lake. I only saw this image once, and it stuck with me, since. My dad and uncle were listening to some music, and the song "Dance With my Father" was playing during this moment. That's why I'm, strangely, reminded of this creepy picture wherever I hear that song. 😭

Ugh, I'm usually a big fan of horror stuff, but the picture in Check the Camera struck some kind of primal nerve when I first saw it years ago. It literally took me two days to come down from the fight-or-flight I felt when I first saw it. I don't know why it hit me that hard, but to this day it scares me more than any other horror media I've come across.

I've been seeing a bunch of these iconic image origin videos a bunch lately and I'm all here for it. We never stop to think where something comes from be it an image based creepypasta or even a funny meme. An example I personally love was the asulym patient used often in conjunction with the Russian sleep experiment- obviously looking back now its an edited photo of a Halloween decoration but at the time the story was written/image used to represent it, the unknown origin added to the creepiness and the same goes for the likes Eyeless Jack or Jeff the Killer or even Smile.dog

I'm always a little uncomfortable when real life tragedies are used for scary stories, so at first I was disappointed with Anomaly using the fire, but the fact that those in the picture weren't actually victims makes it much easier to still like the story.

@averysspookshowspectacular62055 ай бұрын
@@cooliostarstache5474 Not really. Many have a sort of warning to prevent tagedies, but most are still made up. The ankle slicing car thief, hook hand man, skinned dog, aren't you glad you didn't turn on the lights, the babysitter, bloody Mary, melon heads, a lot of these traditional and classic urban legends don't have any basis in an actual event.

I think the first image might be altered in significant ways, thus why it might not show up. Double Exposure, Purposeful Degradation, and False-Negative can be things used to purposefully mask the origin or just maybe to make it creepier.

Great list of pics that aren't normally as discussed! While I wasn't aware of the pasta itself, I was always disturbed by that Tower of Silence picture. I had assumed for long it was from a movie or something, so it was very shocking when I learned it was a real picture. Of course, learning context of it being Zoroastrian burial, even if very foreign to me, it's not as scary. Do have to admit, photoshopping the centre to look like a massive hole is a tiny detail, but for some reason it makes the image even more surreal and unnerving! Authors who do original artwork for their pastas/ARGs/whatever deserve more credit. That's the reason I never liked the whole Mandela Catalogue thing, it felt like a slideshow straight out of google images. When the author is the original artist on the other hand, the image becomes a complete mystery, and keeping it hidden, although leaving us without an answer, is a fantastic way to up the mystique and make it more mysterious/immersive!
@somerandomguy31297 ай бұрын
How disgraceful of them to snap a photo of a Zoroastrian burial ritual, and made it creepy out of context! They have no excuse to slander it. I'm glad you were able to explain the true context of it.
@Geen-jv6ck7 ай бұрын
The Zoroastrian burial ritual was creepy and disrespectful from the beginning. Leaving corpses out in the open to be consumed by insects and animals shows a lack of respect and love for the individuals. No one should respect this 'burial' practice given they treated their pagan followers in this manner. It reminds me of this curse from the Old Testament: Jeremiah 9:22 Speak, “This is what the Lord says: ‘The corpses of people will fall like dung on the open field, And like the sheaf after the reaper, But no one will gather them.’”
@Saethyr7 ай бұрын
@Geen-jv6ck they're not pagan, they're the reason why monotheistic religions like Christianity exist. They were the first to worship one God. The burial practice is similar to a sky burial. The purpose is to become one with the Earth after death - to give back all that you took.
