What’s the difference between the Oxford Foundation Year programmes and Opportunity Oxford?

Opportunity Oxford students are taking regular Oxford degrees and just receive some extra support before and during their studies. Foundation students take a whole extra year of tuition before (if they are successful) transitioning to a regular Oxford degree.

How do estranged students manage to study at Oxford if they have to leave every 8 weeks? Is there some way for them to stay at the university during holidays?

It will depend on the college, but arrangements can be made. At Jesus College, for example, it is possible to stay in college housing during vacations.

Hi Dr Matt Williams, I'll be applying to Oxford (for English Language and Literature) this year and found out that the personal statement system has changed. Instead, I will have to answer three questions. Do you have any tips on how to approach this new system? It would be great if you could make a video on this since I've gotten so much great advice from you and this KZbin channel on applying to Oxford. Thank you!

Hi there! Yes, planning to make a video on this. The quick version is that there's nothing to be concerned about. The new system ought to make PS writing easier all round.

@@JesusCollegeOxford1571isn’t this an issue as it means students would no longer be able to woo admissions tutors with really good or thoughtful personal statements? Or, were personal statements never really that important to begin with?
@JesusCollegeOxford157123 күн бұрын
No, there will still be the opportunity to describe impressive super curricular activities. The statement will just be more structured to help students and universities share relevant information. Oxford does consider the PS, but we put greater weight on other data that can more easily be verified.

Hello, hope you are well, can I ask wht your personal stance is on a gap year as I cant find a video of you expaling what your thoughts are
@JesusCollegeOxford1571Ай бұрын
Hi there. It’s absolutely fine to take a gap year from our perspective. We take mature students, some of whom have take quite a few gap years! We will want assurance that your academic skills haven’t been blunted with time away from education. This we check with admissions tests and interviews etc, but it’s worth mentioning in a personal statement what you might do on a gap year to keep your eye in. It can be difficult to apply for a deferred entry place to Oxford, because we have to take on faith that you will be better than a cohort we can’t interview for another year. So deferred offers are relatively hard to obtain. But you can apply during a gap year or reapply during a gap year.

In one of your other videos about why seemingly “perfect” Oxford applicants are rejected, you alluded to the fact that such applicants may not actually be as perfect as they seem and that they may have had some weaknesses in their application. Does this mean that fundamentally when someone is rejected from Oxford, it’s because of a weakness in their application rather than simply due to “competition” as the rejection email often claims?
@JesusCollegeOxford157120 күн бұрын
Good question. Not an absolute weakness, but a relative “weakness”. As in, compared to other applicants somebody not offered a place is a little less developed in some skill. But, calling them “weak” would be absurd. By comparison to most people, they will be exceptionally able. So, it is really the strength of the competition, rather than weakness of the individual that counts.
