I think it's Deadman (that soul in the red costume that asks batman for help sometimes. He could take over people's bodies). He can mainly talk by possession of someone, but no one can hear or see him in his form. Detective mode may be the only bridge. It sounds stupid & farfetched but I'm drunk right now so 😅

@@frankwoods9680 yeah Arkham uses the same sfx sound for the x-ray. Except it’s more sped up, but if you slow it down you can tell it’s the exact same. Just search up smallville Clark using x-ray and Arkham city detective mode and either speed or slow them down to compare for yourself. 😃

I think it’s the hearing augmentation that the batsuit provides hearing conversation across the city, like hearing two thugs from half a mile away chatting and just being ever so slightly in range for him to pick up the sound

It is. His ears are sonars, his range of hearing regularly is wide enough to hear the goons far away, in detective mode, his augmentations are kinda overclocked, the sensitivity goes way up, also, the vision is partly sonar as well, copying the "vision" of a bat.

In the Batman trilogy with Christian bale, you could see that the way detective mode worked was sound waves bouncing off of things and that’s how he was able to see, maybe the same thing is happening here

Does anybody remember Arkham Asylum when Batman gets hit with Scarecrow's toxin the first thing he sees is Commissioner Gordon calling out for Batman's help as he's being dragged away? The tone of the creepy voice is the same meaning its all in his head, it's the cries of all the people he feels he has failed and let down. Batman has been fighting with his mentality throughout the entire game even before he was hit with Scarecrow's toxin during Ace Chemicals.

It’s probably ptsd or something from him not being able to save Jason Todd. He may have been in constant detective vision looking for clues where Jason might’ve been before he was killed. As a result after he has it on for a while memories of that night resurface? Just a theory. That’s my own head cannon.

Range of hearing doesn't increase when detective mode is on. Logically, it's increased the whole time, since it's the feature of his long ears in a costume (Joker is even referring to that, when AK meets Batman in a middle of the story)

I think psychological trauma is most likely the reason. If I remember correctly this can happen often throughout the game so a real person begging for help wouldn’t make sense and that it happens through out the map

It increases his intensity of hearing, also "...those pointy ears aren't there for nothing!", they are sonars, and yes, it's increases the range, that why he can hear the goons/thugs far away on the streets while he is on a building. It's even multiple times explained in game and in the comics. Don't forget, he's a bat. Those voices are samples from the one-liners you hear from those goons regularly in game.

Its probably supposed to be like dark knight. Detective mode works off of combining digital footage and sonar from nearby devices, so some audible words come through every once in a while. Or its just ambient noise.

Its detective mode tracking multiple signals through walkie-talkies or like radio that's why you can hear thugs talking why gliding far away it even shows you a little tracking signal pop up I think towards the right that shows the direction of the signal, it's just a thing to add a little bit of immersion kind of like a heightened sense of hearing and of course the heightened sense of looking around seeing through walls. Because detective mode is essentially the thing that happened in the Dark Knight which is like multiple signals being used to create a way of seeing through things its just leftover artifacts that are distorted and unfocused

(and I think Batman has an actual super power because that’s have super hearing that can hear animals from far distances and from really far away so Batman probably has super hearing when he has Detective mode on and it lets him hear people in danger from really far away, that’s my theory)

I'd test it out at the start of the game before Batman ever gets hit with fear toxin or starts thinking about Jason and if it's there then it's probably just his psychosis but if you can't hear it until after ace chemicals and being exposed to fear toxins then I'd say it's Batman reliving his greatest failure.
