When my son of blessed memory was a toddler, I bought him a book called "All The Colors We Are," which was a brilliant book about skin color. It asked the reader to look at their skin and identify their own skin color as it appears to them. It was a book about melanin, the chemical ALL humans have in our skin that determines our pigmentation. The book explains that we are all shades of tan, like coffee with different amounts of cream. I grew up all over the world and my whole life I have had friends and family of all shades. I learned from childhood to not define a person by the amount of melanin in their skin. We are one race. Human. I wish we could get back to that fact. It has been proven through the science of Genetics that all humans living today share a common origin: She is called Mitochondrial Eve. She has been traced back around 200,000 years and is thought to have originated somewhere in the middle of what is now the Kalahari Desert, which covers most of modern day Botswana, as well as parts of Namibia and South Africa. She is the mother ancestor of all the human race. Let's start there, with gratitude, in the race conversation . How blessed we are to know this! Modern cultural and geographical differences aside, we are all related and of one race. May we learn to love each other as a family, and treat one another with kindness and grace.

I think the problem goes beyond race. It’s just an in-built part of some people’s nature. Some people, regardless of colour or creed, are hateful, for whatever reason. And some are inherently suspicious of anyone who isn’t like them. That’s just part of the human condition. There will always be people like this wherever you go. If there were no races, and if everyone had the same skin colour they’d find something else to justify their attitude. It’s the same mentality that drives religious hatred, political violence, misogyny, misandry. It even drives sports related violence between the fans of two different teams that can’t get along with each other. I like to think that this sort of person is in the minority, but unfortunately they are a very loud minority who wouldn’t have had such a broad platform before the invention of the internet. But I think that what we are dealing with are extremists. There are extremists being anti black and extremists being anti white. They are loud. But they don’t represent the majority of people, and we mustn’t be swayed by their voice just because they shout loudly enough. Extremism of any kind is dangerous. The fear, or hatred, of anything ‘other’ than us goes back all through history, probably to prehistoric times. It’s a defence mechanism for tough times. “We’ve settled a nice piece of land where we have clean water and can grow things. We have to protect it for our survival. But those people down the valley, they might want to take it from us. They’re different from us. We don’t trust them”. But we live in more enlightened times. Our survival depends on other things (or, at least, they should) and there is no longer a need for this way of thinking, whatever race we are. But some people still cling to prejudices and use it to justify what is, nothing more or less, than bullying. I don’t like bullying, whatever form it happens to take. The solution is simple, and has nothing to do with race. Be kind and respectful to all of your fellow humans, in equal measure. That’s it. Simple. Although something so simple seems to be so complicated for everyone to agree and act upon. If we did this there would be no racism, conflict on gender ideology, sexism, gang violence, kids getting picked on at school because their parents are poor, religious intolerance, big powerful countries kicking the life out of less powerful countries, fat-shaming, class division. The list goes on. I don’t always understand people who are different to me. I don’t always agree with other people’s opinion. I don’t always like everything that other people stand for. But I also realise that this doesn’t entitle me to treat other people badly. We can look past what makes us different. In many cases the things that make us different should be celebrated as part of life’s rich tapestry. And we should nurture those things that make us the same. But should anyone bully another? Well then we need to call it out. I will speak out if I see racism whether a white person is the perpetrator or if they are the victim. It makes no difference to me. Bullying is bullying. Racism is racism. And whoever is committing it is wrong. We all need to remember that in the end (whether we are black, white, man, woman, young, old, rich or poor) six feet of earth make us all equal.

Sometimes people spend too much time focusing on what the other person is rather than who the person is. Collectivism shouldn’t be anyone’s priority. It’s a rather unfortunate way to live.

My algorithm finally put you back in my notifications! Yay! I've always seen you as an empathetic soul. The hatred in this world is so sad. Imagine what we could do as a united people.. especially in the United States . I don't agree with reparations. My 4th great grandfather was taught that people were to be owned and when I found that in my ancestry I cried. Also, I have not benefitted from ANYTHING he did. We could stop this on the ground level...I feel major media outlets contribute to this division. Sadly this is generational.. nobody is born racist, they were taught to hate. In every area that racism exist. God bless America and her people 🙏🏻 😔 Ps. Power DOES corrupt.

18:49 The skit you watched and enjoyed about the man taking advice from various random strangers giving nutrition advice is just an updated version of a story about human nature. The oldest version of that story I'm aware of is from "Aesop's Fables", but the tale itself is repeated across many cultures and all parts of the world. The wiki entry about this ancient story is labelled "The miller, his son and the donkey." The moral of the story is that nobody should blindly follow the advice of others. Consider advice, appreciate advice, but evaluate it for yourself. Take time to consider advice and how it may help or hinder your goals.

Let's be frank about one thing. We live in a country in which the society is fueled by systematic racism. That means a great number of aspects in our society - government, housing, employment, law enforcement and capitalism - is still tainted by racism. However, these aspects are also tainted by sexism, ethnicity, origin of birth, religious beliefs, sexual persuasion, physical/mental disabilities and class. The elite-controlled media constantly fuels this hatred and tribalism in order to keep us divided and not be a threat to them. But bigotry does exist in this country. To deny this would be folly and serves no purpose. And one cannot deny that even to this day, many whites (especially upper-middle class and wealthy white men) are still at an advantage over others, due to our society's institutions. To deny this is simply a case to me of being blind.

There is a palpable change in parts of society with people's ridiculous ideology. They cherry-pick their argument with woke California speak, turning a blind eye and omitting the truth. Having lived in London in the 90's there was a sense of progress which seems to have dissipated in recent years with the ignorance of some people.

If we allow ourselves to be divided then we play into the hands of the ones in power who oppress us all. We can't help having preconceptions and the weight of all the baggage of history and current societal trends, but I like to set all that aside when I meet people and just treat them on a one to one individual basis according to how we treat each other now. I think most people do this. The video raises important concerns and we should heed it's warning so that the future he fears we are creating does not happen; but you are right to point out that it is not representative of the whole picture, thankfully!

I have found that a default position of kindness, cheerfulness, and a generalized xenophilia, is not only useful, but possessive of healthful properties, both personally and socially. Moreover, it is good for the mind to know other languages and cultures. I love languages, and study several African languages, among others, and wondered if you knew Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa or, say, French? What is the major language of Nigeria?

If you just change the groups, these quotes sound exactly like racists from the 1950s. If those people in the 1950s were awful, then why is NOT awful to say the same things they said, and believe the same things they believed? That doesn't logically make any sense.

Thanks Kemi. This is an uncompfortable subject to discuss and from my perspective I’m not sure how to answer other then I agree. With his points and have personally expirenced the hatred my self for years in my younger days from grade 1 till I graduated whch I’d almost givin up. I was always picked on later horrassed and then lead to jumpings on a regular basis all of which were from non whites. And I was beatin badly. However at the end of the day I never held thier race against them. And don’t feel any way about any person who’s non whites. But rather that humans could do this to someone , on purpose. It ruined my life and still have trust issues. But with all people . Years of being set up by friends didn’t help. Rough area growing up. That said I still find the beauty in people and keep hope for the kindness to come forth in our world caring people are out there. And this expierence didn’t ruin that knowledge. People like your self are what makes are world beautiful. Learning and growing and trying at least to understand others and how we all got here.
