So sorry for poor Teddy. Is there a reason why they don’t put Emla cream on his hands prior to a cannula being inserted? As a play specialist I have seen hundreds of cannulas inserted of all ages. If a child is known to have difficult veins an anaesthetist would cannulate the child. Numbing the skin certainly works. For all that poor Teddy has gone through in his short life he is an absolute super star. So pleased that you had such good news. Hopefully the length of your trips to GOSH will become less. xx

Thank you Lord for keeping this family under the shadow of your wings. Thank you that Teddy will live a long and blessed life and many hearts will be touched because of this little warrior. Teddy when you read this just know that you touched the heart of a 66 year old grand mother who lost her husband to aml and you are just as brave as he was, maybe even braver because you don’t understand yet you endure. I hope one day you will be thanking God for what he has done.

Oh, Teddy! No wonder why medical children have PTSD. It's just no one talks about it once they get older. I don't understand why I have not seen or heard about a specialist whose sole job is to help kids get through these things like distraction, numbing cream, and sedation. We have Child Life Specialists, here, in the USA who coordinate and help families, especially the little patients cope with these things. You are an amazing boy Teddy B and family!

Hello, I'm a superfan of Teddy for about a year. I've also worked as a phlebotomist at Valley Children's hospital in Fresno, CA. I've taught phlebotomy to fellow hospital corpsman at the Navy hospital. A bit of advice on drawing blood, placing IV's, and cannulas, doctors for the most part are horrible at it. Next time, ask for the head phlebotomist. They are the most skilled. We can hit a vein/artery an inch under the surface of the skin only using our very sensitive "feely fingers". It's ALL we do. Good luck.
@beththomson52492 ай бұрын
Right, former nurse here....from now on, you insist that an anaesthetist does the cannulation. No nurses or even more inexperienced Dr's. You have a right to ask this due to the amount of failed cannulation attempts in past. You can cite infection risk, and well being of Teddy. The anaesthetist is the most qualified person in entire hospital to do this. Hope it helps going forward
@life-with-the-bridges2 ай бұрын
absolutely! That's our plan x

Former retired pediatric nurse. Scott, I totally agree. There is no reason for this child going through this every month. I’m a senior citizen who has terrible veins to access. I can’t imagine poor little Teddy going through this pain and torture. Schedule all blood, IV therapy, testing at same time. They can schedule it to their convenience.
@somersetflower2 ай бұрын
@@Susanjoc Also is there any reason Teddy could not have a mild anaesthetic just to calm and soothe him . I'm 😢 . I am also old lady with health probs and understand the nurses difficulties but Teddy is a baby and it must be so scary and uncomfortable however they do it. Please give your beautiful little 🐻 Teddy a big hug from me. I'm sorry you all to keep going through this and I'm praying for a soonest resolution. Bloody Magpies . Janice xxx🦕

@@somersetflower probably because of his lung situation, they wouldn’t want to give him sedation intravenously. They could use creams or local sedation to the vein.

As a patient a word of advice…you don’t want a doc to do an IV. Most of them haven’t touched an IV since residency. If a nurse can’t get it, docs are definitely going to miss.
