Wow! I have 6 and sometimes it feels overwhelming; I play drums too so strings, picks, heads and sticks are a regular expense. I do want a few more guitars and amps though lol. Maybe when I’m retired I’ll have the time and money to keep up with 10 to 15 guitars

@@honkytonkinson9787 I never set out to amass a large collection. It started because I wanted to learn everything about them so I started buying projects. I have built a couple as well. Building a guitar does not save a bunch of money lol. I am at the point now where I have no overwhelming desires. I never get too excited over a guitar that is for sale if I can't afford it at the time. I just use that guitar as motivation to save up and if that guitar is still available when the money is there, I will consider it along with anything else that is in that range at that time. At any point in time the market will provide great options.

I just got the very Lake Placid Blue American Original '60s Telecaster in the thumbnail of this video for the reasons you stated: it's been the guitar I've wanted the most for a few years and I wanted to get it before they are gone and the scarcity causes used prices to skyrocket (I did a couple of videos about it on my humble channel and tagged you all on one of them). I can look back on too many guitars over the years I let get away which now cost more used than they did when they were new and in production, so I couldn't let that one get away.

Until recently I always used to say we were in a golden age of guitars in terms of quality vs price. It was a wonderful time to experiment with different types of guitars, because even crazily affordably priced instruments were unlikely to be total duds. So, it really was a case of "if you fancy it - just give it a try"! I've added some great guitars to my line-up that way - and they all justify hanging on to through something they add. Now, with prices starting to ratchet up (and I think it will get a lot worse), there's a different reason to buy sooner rather than later - if there's a new guitar you really want, now's the time to get it, because it'll only cost you more if you wait! And sadly, once the prices have gone up, do we really expect them ever to come right down again once the market (hopefully) stabilises again?
@SingPsalms2 жыл бұрын
Maybe. I think they run the risk of pricing themselves out of competition. With these budget brands being what they are, a few mods will be enough for a good guitar. I bought a few of them, and they felt great and play just as good as anything else, especially after mods. Eart, Donner, Firefly, Harley Benton, Grote, etc. I'm sure there are plenty of companies who will jump on an opportunity to fill a demand. I think the big companies need to watch out if anything, it's definitely a new age of the guitars.
@charlesbolton84712 жыл бұрын
The prices won’t ever go back down unless individual businesses are willing to take a hit (or if the manufacturers give incentives on slow sellers) to move something specific. I do think prices will level off, and go back to only having slight increases when a product line is updated as opposed to price increases across the board. If guitar sales volume drops off as quickly as it increased in 2020 there will definitely be a lot of great deals to be had by those who are financially able/willing to buy. I think the used market is going to be flooded anytime now which will drive used prices down to a reasonable level in pre Covid terms as opposed to reasonable based on current new prices.

Yesterday I purchased a new, Fender Custom Shop Strat. I was pondering on it for a week or so, then in the end I thought, I could custom order one that has nearly the same specs, perhaps different pickups and some minor cosmetic differences, probably pay about the same amount and wait well over a year to get it. Or just buy this one and be playing it the next week.

Sure, we all see something we really like and say to ourselves ‘Man, I’d love that in such and such color’, or with different hardware etc… you wait around a year or two and it just seems to not be happening and now your financial situation isn’t really allowing you to make that same purchase in that price bracket. The AVRI Series has a more accurate fretboard radius and are favored over AOs in the used market.
@erickmo11882 жыл бұрын
@@Surge_LaChance I’d agree that they are typically favored for those that like the 7.25 radius. I’ve never hated on that feel myself but much prefer the 9.5 (as do most I think based on fender custom shop order numbers being tipped toward the 9.5 more often than not). I do feel the thin skin finish on the AVRI models was way thinner and more accurate. But then again, my most used LPB AO tele looks like a journeyman relic these days. (FYI they actual do have a light silver underneath the translucent light blue. It’s wearing very nicely)

Tons of baritone 7’s and 8’s but I’ve never bonded with those but a 27”+ for metal would be great. There are a few but I’d like more options like the ESP Phoenix or BC Rich Ironbird baritone 6 would be awesome.

They should definitely bring that one back. I wanted one of those and that most recent Trouble Maker Tele with the gold hardware and Bigsby. Both the Koa top Strat and that Tele are selling for a lot more than they cost new. I also wish I bought one of the limited edition purple sparkle Adam Clayton basses a few years ago because the price on those is really insane. My biggest regret of passing up when I had a chance was the 2013 Limited Edition Gibson Music City Junior. Apparently, they only made 200 of them and they didn’t sell very well at the original price ($1,600). Therefore, the price got reduced. My local (at the time) Guitar Center marked the one they had down to $999, and I made the mistake of thinking that it would go lower since it had already been there a year at the original price. It didn’t last a week at $999.

Sometimes the benefit of the cycle is that the price on V1 will drop when V2 comes out. Additionally, if you're buying a V1 late in it's cycle, then the production and QC is mature and at least theoretically, it'll be better out of the box.

Do yourself a favor and get rid of the Hipshot Xtender and install some GOTOH Res-O-Lites (GBR640). Those basses are notoriously neck-heavy. As a long-time fretless player, the balance of the instrument isn't very comfortable on the "fretting" hand. You could also install a Hi-Mass bridge instead of swapping the tuners, but you'll be adding a half-pound of weight.
