I tried the self authoring program and I don’t think I’ve ever cried so hard in my life, I couldn’t even finish it. But the ultimate takeaway I received was that the only thing I realized I actually have some control over is to clean my apartment, and I have been making steady strides towards being better and better at that. And it’s interesting how much encouragement that gave me. My love for Christ has only deepened, and I’m no longer suicidal.

My 16-year-old son was making some very poor decisions that were destroying trust and relationships. He spent his first 3 years in an institution before becoming our son, so his early life was difficult and he had to develop survival mechanisms that don't serve him well now (but are very understandable given his early experiences). I want to set him up for a life of love, purpose, and fulfillment (in addition to the suffering we all experience). We all signed up for the self-authoring program this summer with him in mind, and I think it is having an impact 🙏 I see more reflection and the start of building trust. He was also recently baptized and confirmed, which I think is also having its impact 💕

I keep coming back to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs as I contemplate this because it seems obvious to me that "dreams" also have a hierarchical structure of importance correlated to this Hierarchy of Needs. We tend to participate in these topics through a western societal lens and consequently from a perspective of novelty or luxury but there are those of us, even in the West, that are struggling to simply achieve the first 2 tiers within this Needs Hierarchy. If you're dreaming then you are already better off than those who are struggling through their waking nightmares. Some of us are falling and rising up to face the struggle again and again but some of my brethren have not risen up and are gone. Pray for us please.

What's become apparent to me about dreams is that they tell you exactly how you would react to something if you did not have time to think about it. If you don't like how you reacted in the dream to something specific, that's telling you that you what you need to work on.

I have followed Dr. Peterson for years, and loved every word he has said. Until now. His advice about envisioning what you could be may be good for a young man. For an older man, such as myself, it is a dagger to the heart. I have had a vision of what I wanted to be for years; I have failed to attain it. Now that I am older, I know I will never attain it. This basically means I am a failure, just waiting to die.

Imagine or at least consider what you can do with your lifetime of experience and lessons to assist others in succeeding in life. What we have learned in life and experienced and succeeded in is never what we dreamed of in our youth. If we truly consider deeply, the lives we have lived are rich indeed. We each have an impact we may never realize. Help guide others and continue your journey. You are not a failure. Please don't just wait to die. Keep running the race through the very end. When your life in this world is finished, it is just the start of your next journey. Every experience you have had here are building blocks. What you think was a lack of success here may be the valuable cornerstone to your eternal existence.

10 Stories of Successful Seniors Aging gracefully by accepting that getting older means slowing down and not looking or acting younger than you are is absolutely outdated! As these successful seniors show, aging gracefully is really to live with purpose and make the most of life. 1. Colonel Harland Sanders - Established the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant chain at age 65; nine years and 600 franchises later he sold his share for millions. 2. Laura Ingalls Wilder - Began writing “Little House on the Prairie” at age 65; it later became a beloved television series. 3. Estelle Getty - After years as a relatively unsuccessful actress, she achieved widespread fame at the age of 63 as Sophia in “The Golden Girls” television series. 4. Grandma Moses - The American folk artist whose work was featured at the MoMA in New York and who graced the cover of Time in 1953, didn’t even begin painting until she was 78. 5. Yuichiro Miura - In 2014, he became the oldest person to reach the top of Mount Everest at age 80 and has said he would like to try again at age 90. 6. Rosemary Smith - A rally race champion in the 1960s, she became the oldest person to drive a Formula 1 car in 2017 when she was 79. 7. Doris Self - Recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records as the “oldest video game champion” at the age of 58 by scoring 1,112,300 points in the arcade game Q*bert. 8. Smoky Dawson - Known as Australia’s first cowboy and a pioneer of Western music, he became the oldest person to compose, record, and release a new album at 92 years old. 9. Mohr Keet - This WWII veteran became the world’s oldest bungee jumper in 2010 at the age of 96 (he didn’t begin jumping until the age of 88). 10. Harriette Thompson - A cancer survivor who ran her first marathon at the age of 76, and at 91 years old completed her 15th marathon becoming the second-oldest marathon runner in U.S history. from: friendship.us. Joel 2:28 25 And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. 26 And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed. 27 And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed. 28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: 29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. 30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. 31The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come. Acts 2:17 14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: 15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. 16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: 19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: God said it twice, thus it surely comes to pass. Write your epitaph. Believe you are a failure, and you will bring it upon yourself. Set your heart upon a good way before God, and the world will re-align to bring it to pass. But once you get the vision, you can not falter or doubt God's desires for your liberty and liberal abundance in all life's depth and breadth. God bless.
@laurawhy88139 ай бұрын
Wow! If you chose to interpret it that way. I don't know what your vision for yourself was but WHO SAYS it was the right one? I am a Christian so in my view, God knows best what he has called me to be, who he has called me to be, and what things he wants me to do. I imagine they are probably small everyday day things that in the end will have eternal fruits. You don't have to reach your goal or any other person's goal to live and NOT JUST be waiting around to die. Ask God to show you your purpose. Sincerely ask him, beg him even to reveal himself, his purposes to you. He reveals himself through the Bible so you could start searching in earnest there. I love Peterson but he cannot answer your eternal needs. Seek the Creator of space, time and matter. He has the answers and much for you to accomplish in the time that remains for you on this Earth. Praying you find the love and hope of Jesus and therein the true purpose of ANY man.

dreams are confusing, trying to make sense of it can lead to enlightenment. But it is your lie to yourself to make sense of the whole construct. Unless you have a photographic memory the reality of the dream keeps changing unless you repeat the same idea. My understanding is no 2 dreams are exactly the same. It can have the same situation, but to understand more you end up doing something different. This can change the situation without understanding why it changed in the first place.

I have to say that after doing the self authoring program in its entirety with one review a year or so later to go over the goals, and past authoring to see if I got everything right as I saw it. The process was a slog and it did not help my life. I think that it made it worse. I have lost just about everything that made my life bearable and if not for a few graces I would be destitute for a second time in my life. I had a lot of hope first listening to Peterson; I have met the man I have read his books and have listened to his lectures. I now watch these Peterson clips with the cynicism I formerly reserved for televangelists; I hold the conclusion that I was taken for a ride. I am glad that the self authoring program has worked for some people here. I am pointing out: I am an unsatisfied customer and from my experience self authoring is not a panacea that is going to up end your life from the primordial dragon of chaos from the depths of the sea. The joke is on me I suppose. Good play Peterson.

As a young adult, (approx. 12 to 15 years old) I remember reviewing my life every year after my birthday. At the time I was amazed at the amount of detail I could recall how far back I could remember (2 and 3 years old) Over time I slowly gave this practice up. Years later, I regretted doing this but realized that I had actually not stopped doing it. I had an encounter with my grandmother before she passed away where she relayed a story to me about something I did when very young that I didn't know until she told me. A flood of memories and dreams followed for months, where I encountered memories about my past that were traumatic, specifically; how I was treated by two older brothers. Perhaps some of these memories were manufactured by my imagination. I don't really know. At 64 now I try not to pay attention to dreams. I've read enough psychology, (S. Freud and C. Jung). I have lived a complicated life. I believe I have sorted out my history well enough. In my experience, being the most educated out of my family has had mostly negative consequences. I am looking at your jacket, and listening to you ramble on, and I'm thinking you, Jordan, are in an Identity crisis. By the way, what you are looking for and your listeners are looking for is not a load of psychobabble, but the Gospel of Jesus Christ: Mathew 11:28 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

I'm guessing. It's a representation from his book 12 rules of life, which explores the balance between order and chaos.
