Funniest for my group was just a scene at the campfire. The druid handles the cooking and has a leshy (think baby groot) familiar. Everyone else was busy so he had the leshy help him in cooking. He rolled a 20 for the druid and a 1 for the Leshy. This was followed by a couple chuckles and a realization the soup was amazing despite the failure. Following that was ascene of brief RP between the druid and my character talking about cooking, during which we joked that he accidentally knocked the leshy into the pot. Leshy's fine, it just led to the joke he's a walking sprig of bay leaves.

My Simic Hybrid Storm sorcerer volunteered to go into a tar pit to retrieve the remains of a dead cleric. I asked the DM if I could make one of those Shibari harnesses to ensure the rope tied to my character doesn't come loose. Dhas me roll Nat 20. At level 1 we were preparing to fight a hobgoblin which was at something like level 4. I suggested using a length of rope to make an obvious trip hazard at the top of the stairs where he was at. In addition, I poured some oil on the top step figuring that the hobgoblin would see the rope, go to step over then slip on the oil. Duly, he stepped over the rope onto the oil and rolled a Nat 1 tumbling head over heels down the stairs where we were able to crowd him and hack him to bits before he got up ☺️

One time my OC was fighting an ochre jelly with her quarterstaff. I kept getting low roles though and wasn't doing much. Finally I got bored of the quarterstaff (it was the only weapon I had at the time), and my character walked over to the party's resident chef, grabbed his frying pan out of his backpack, smacked the ochre jelly and got a 20. Took it out completely. My character then proceeded to stick the frying pan covered in flesh-dissolving goo back into the chef's backpack and say sweetly, "Here you go 😇"

When our group wandered into a town in one campaign, we came across a barfight that started to break out onto the bars porch. We looked at our barbarian Half-Giant and could LITERALLY see the gears turning in his head. As he began to excitedly run towards the bar giggling with excitement, our Paladin points and says to him "I COMMAND NO FIGHTING!" Everyone freezes, the DM smiled and calmly said "Roll for it." Paladin rolls a NAT FUCKING 20 and everyone collectively LOST their shit. After that, an absolute HILARIOUS scene took place where our bitter and dejected Barbarian walks groveling into the bar and causally walks through this wild ass bar brawl music and all while NOBODY wants to swing on him because he's like 8 feet tall! He sat down to drink at the bar sulking while all hell is breaking loose around him and he cant participate 😂

Hi everyone, I’ve just started a new campaign with my fiancé and I’m currently playing as a Half-Elf Soulknife Rogue. My fiancé (who’s playing an Eldridge Knight) and I were introduced to the party as investigating a magical animal fighting ring that the current party also happened to be looking into. After introductions, a drunken rabble started to walk past us talking about bets and who might win, so we decided to follow the crowd until we reached the arena. We had noticed some cages hidden away from the increasing crowd with only 2 guards at the entrance and the rest working with guiding people towards the arena. I walked up to the guards and told them I was the animal handler for this arena. I rolled a 19 and was allowed no questions asked. After looking around and noticing none of the locks were enchanted, I roll another 19 and unlocked all the cages, one happen to be containing a Basilisk. After I unlocked it’s cage, it moved slowly towards, DM asks me to roll Animal Handling. 18. The next scene, my team, amongst the chaos the previous animals are causing, hear me shout ‘Hey guys, look what I’ve got!’ as a giant snake comes barrelling out of the enclosure section, running people over in its wake with me on it’s back. And that’s how we met Barry the Basilisk

Homebrewed, 5th edition game. I rolled my best Nat 20 and highest non-nat-20 stealth roll ever a few weeks ago..... So, I go to a local store twice a week to play two different campaigns. This was from our Saturday campaign. After voyaging down a river on our way to find our Warforged Bard's Maker/Father figure, we encountered a regular annoyance we had encountered a few times before, and during this session. Varx Docite, heir to the Docite Empire that was trying to take the town of Hoxfall, where our adventurer's guild was located, for herself. She messed around with one of our group with magic and disappeared, laughing. I had just been about to go off with him to collect materials and supplies, but everyone backed out now that they knew Varx was around and actively messing with us. I, a female Lizardfolk Shadow monk by the name of Galena, went anyway, alone. And after successfully finding some very useful mushrooms, rolled a 19. Plus 5. Then another 10 for pass without a trace. 34 total. I stealthed so hard that Varx who had been following and teasing our party for days completely missed me spot her, use a Misty Step -(Fey Touched)- to sneak up behind her and impale her on my poisonous, diseased Bulezau spear, twice, and because I was a 5th Monk, stunning strike.....the first impalement and stunning strike was a Nat 20. What followed was my party witnessing the vexing imperial heir Varx Docite, who had already proven to be both tough and annoying, having taken a nat 20 Rapier blow to the neck in a prior session, fall face first out of a tree with a diseased hole in her chest, followed by my Scottish, Shadow Monk Lizardfolk woman who constantly wears a purple and blue suit and peaky blinders style English cap, dropping out of the tree like a batman wannabe and stab her a second time. Since she was stunned, my party had the perfect opportunity to mess her up. Spells were slung, blades hit home, and in the end, over 100 points of damage were done in the space of a single round. That's when she started reverting to her true form as a Hydra..... Which we had no idea about prior to that moment. We watched in horror as she shifted into a massive multi-headed monster..... And used the rest of our precious few seconds of stun to book it out of there as quickly as possible. My diseased spear left two wounds that seemed to not be closing at all when we left..... Considering how bad my luck usually is, and the fact that we weren't supposed to learn about her being a Hydra this early, it's the best and funniest Nat 20 I ever rolled. Bar none.

Here how I roll the HP for my «normal» dragons : Each die is a D%. I then add the age class of the dragon to every single die. They also have regeneration equal to their age class. In combat, they have an initiative modifier of 1. EVEN a gargantuan dragon have an initiative modifier of 1. Then, there are the Grand, Greater and Greatest Dragons, who get 2d%, 4d% and 10D% as hit dies. Then, when they take damage, they start spraying a constant area effect that cause 1D10 HP of damage for each HP of damage sustained to anyone close by. Edible dungeon... This happened 2 days ago: Our party was sent by a rebellion organization to take care of a haunted clown circus. We couldn’t get into the circus unless we all paid 5GP each or sign a contract. 2 of us paid and one signed the contract(He now speaks in 3rd person) and our last party member an Aarakocra fighter decided to stay outside. We saw a tournament building in the circus and immediately went into it because of my PC’s excited personality. In order to complete the tournament we had to go through 5 stages of different battles. In the first stage we had to fight a demon possessed child and an old woman. We started getting rekt by the child and old woman. So then my PC decided to call out to the Aarakocra party member outside the circus to come help. The DM said in order to succeed I had to roll a Nat 20 as a joke. Me:”NAT 20 MOTHER FUCKER!” Then the Aarakocra proceeds to sweep the floor with all of the enemies for the 5 stages. Ever since then my 13 year old PC is known as the professional “yell for help” child in every conversation about the PCs.

Used to do DnD club at my school (it was set up by me and my friends, who played DMs while I "led" the party). There was a boy in our party who we didn't like too much, we're cool now but he treated the club like he was one of the leading members just because he was one of the few in mine and my friends' year group (making us the oldest) in early weeks. He was generally annoying but not bad in any sense. Anyway, the party came to a split bridge that we could only get across by pulling a chain to put it together on the other side, with a roll of about 12, two members threw the annoying boy across (he's very small, mind you) and he just made it. But, the boy had fallen unconscious due to his landing, and couldn't let us across. So I asked if my character could just jump the gap. Rolled for the jump: Nat 20. With a +5 in athletics. When I safely jumped to the other side I got to kick the boy in the head. Wish I could see the look on his face again, but glad the sessions are over because I have way too many toxic stories about how it was handled.

So I got a fun Nat 20 story. I'm the DM and am running the Rick and Morty dungeon (for real, it is a lot of fun if you want a goofy dungeon dive). In the dungeon, there is a room where the players walk in and see "clones" of themselves from an alt universe. One of my players, for five sessions total, had been suffering from Nat 20s rolled against them. So his character is fighting their clone. We're all joking because the combat hasn't given him a nat 20 against him. He jokes saying that it was going to happen to the clone. He rolls. Nat 20. This was the second round for his character. We're laughing because he basically one shot his clone (I have a super up version of brutal critical at my table where you max out dice damage and double). Player was happy when the Nat 20 curse was lifted.

I just had a great moment last night during a session with my friend group. Our party was in a cave, chasing down a group of thieves who made off with an old woman’s family heirloom. We eventually made it to a room with an inexperienced and very dumb guard, who was guarding the doorway to the treasure room where the heirloom was. As he was running to the doorway to sound the alarm to alert the other bandits of our presence, I had the brilliant idea to use Minor Illusion to make the guy think the doorway wasn’t there. Not a nat 20 on my deception roll but a high roll nonetheless. Right afterwards my friend’s character, a Leonin, picked up the very confused and scared guard and did a roar to intimidate him. Nat 20. The guard pissed himself, had a heart attack, and died, in that order. We all lost our shit, and so did the dead guy apparently.

I was DMing a homebrew campaign. The party's elf ranger was in the middle of a horse race across a desert in order to win a magical jewel that would help them defeat the BBEG. After some shenanigans, there were only two jockeys left, including our ranger, who was ahead. At one point, he finds a peculiar dune formation. He had been told that was the "Sacred Hunting Ground" of the Desert Lord, which, btw, was a purple worm. Party was LV5 at this point, but ranger knew that if he could make it across the purple worm's territory alive, he would gain a massive advantage, so he took the risk. Still, we're talking about a Purple Worm, so he wanted to slow down a bit and be stealthy. Our ranger. Who, for some reason, has the worst luck when making stealth checks specifically. We thought we knew what was gonna happen. And, then... Nat 20. The purple worm never knew that a LV5 elf ranger and his horse were passing by. And yes, he won the race with ease.

Pathfinder 1e. Had a dungeon boss encounter where the first stage was an armored dragon and its rider, and a gang of Kobolds that was quick to replenish whenever me(a magus) and the party's sorcerer took enough of them out. The party's barbarian realized, over the span of 7 failed swings and 1 unconfirmed crit, that he would have to Nat 20 to even hit the beast. The gunslinger, however, is hitting him pretty easily, as he hits against touch AC. So he signals me and the sorcerer to switch targets with him, and jumps into the middle of the Kobold group instead, since he's also a decent cleave build. He goes to swing at the very first kobold in front of him. Not 1, not 2, but 3. Nat. 20s. And in this campaign, we played with the special rule that if you can score 3 nat 20s in a row on a single hit, without use of anything that lets you select the result of a roll, it automatically kills whatever you swing at. Whether it's a mook or, say, an enormous armored dragon dungeon boss. This was the first and only time this rule ever came up in the campaign. But hey, at least the GM let him act out how he pasted this poor 3 foot tall lizard across the floor.

Nat 20 story in the current campaign that I'm in We walked into a house that had seemed to be robbed and the DM said to us " in the house there are 5 bandits" I (an 11ft Kenkun Monk) immediately say "ROLL FOR SUDDUCTION!!!!" (at this point I had been a better bard than the actual bard since I had a body count of 3 in the first 30 minutes). The DM then said, "You have to roll a nat 20 otherwise you WILL die". I then responded by saying "bet". I then rolled a nat 20 and then proceeded to f*** 4 of the 5 bandits to death as one of my party members killed the 5th. Also sidenote, the house was dark, so I didn't even know what I was f***ing.

So I just finished my latest Session, it was DND 5e, but somewhat creative. Party was a chaotic mess, an Orc Berzerker, I was a Dragonborn Drakewyrm that hasn't summoned my drake at all, and a few others, Including a late edition that was a Lioness Fighter (Leona) Earlier before the natural 20, I drew from a bootleg Deck of many things, and got 30 feet of flight, so I grew actual draconic wings. During a fight with 4 elementals, (my party was level 5, I was level 6, thanks to the meteor, and I also gained a level 5 Leona Sidekick. (female)) I tried to Divebomb the earth elemental, and missed, still dealt 20 damage to it, and only took 31, and healed 20 thanks to acid absorption. Leona, the sidekick, was dealing with a Lizardfolk Lieutenant, and that Lizardfolk was unconscious. Leona, who was wanting to have personal satisfaction, bitch slapped the elite. DM says on a nat 1, nothing happens, and need a nat 20 to wake him up. I rolled a nat 20, and thus, I spawned the biggest anime slap of the century. Leona slapped a Lizardfolk Lieutenant awake, then walked away.

Sure, I got one. I was a Tiefling Sorceress, with a Halfling Monk and a Goblin...Somethingorother. Still new to PF2e, like a Barb/Hunter/Alchemist thing. We were sent on a pretty simple mission: cultists in the nearby town. Deal with them. My CN tiefling is just wanting to collect her check and go home, so despite the goblin's best attempts at diplomacy, the cult leader doesn't trust us, aside from the goblin, who convices him that he worships the same god. The goblin heads out in the middle of the night to "join their summoning", and if shit hits the fan, his cat companion will signal for us to follow him so we can start blastin'. After dispatching the door guard, we snuck into the hallway to where the ritual was taking place. Two dozen mooks stood in the room, along with the miniboss of the leader himself. The goblin (standing next to the leader) was sweating bullets, not wanting to give themselves away. The halfling was a pacifist and didn't want to kill anyone (going so far as stabilizing the guard we beat up). My impatient tiefling was tired of waiting around, so after some whispering and shrugging, she told the halfling: "I'll give you six seconds." One round later, nobody had any plans. So my tiefling...just waltzes into the room as casually as she can, pretending like she belongs. Nat 20 on Deception. The leader (the only person who knows she isn't allowed in, because he's...the leader) is too busy talking to the goblin. The two dozen mooks at the summoning circle just looked at each other, shrugged, and continued channelling. My tiefling stepped closer, and let out a big ice blast, outright killing a third of them, and freezing another third for a few rounds, leaving the final third to actually fight us. It MASSIVELY simplified combat, and we did eventually convince the few survivors and the leader to come quietly, but hoo boy, that pacifist halfling was PISSED at my tiefling.

Not a specific moment, but for whatever reason, whenever I have a small, fox-eared girl/woman whose dump stat is strength, Nat20s are unusually common on said rolls. Victims of these rolls so far: several tables, at least half a dozen doors, a Dwarven master blacksmith(he would only offer his services to those who could beat him on an arm wrestling contest), a dragon(snacked in the head with a shovel, caved his head in), and most recently, a heavy duty battle mech. I don't know why.

My most loved and remembered character ever was a Dwarven Fighter named Rolof, from 2nd edition AD&D rules. We had a house rule that if you rolled a 20 for anything, you rolled again. We had kind of invented crit confirmation before crit confirmation was a thing. So, we got assigned to investigate what happened to some Elven clerics, I'm roleplaying the whole "Elves vs Dwarves" thing to the hilt, and when we get to the Elves base, they have been defeated and turned into undead. Hoping to somehow save them, we are doing our best to not outright destroy them, and holding back on a lot of our best attacks. Meanwhile, my character is making remarks about how if Elves weren't so squishy, they wouldn't be undead now. Then I have to take down one of them, and I'm trying to be a good guy, so I punch them rather than use my axe. What do I roll? A 20 of course. My next roll? A 20 of course. My next roll? Another friggin 20 of course. And the next roll? A 19. This was my craziest and most successful attack roll ever. Even though I was trying to hold back, so as not to totally destroy the venerated Elven cleric leader/now undead baddie. DM was like, what kind of armor do you have, plate, right? In AD&D (maybe still, don't remember?) if your armor had gauntlets, and plate does, your "unarmed" strikes counted as armed strikes, and did a d4 damage. So the DM ruled that despite my best intentions, I had just punched through the Elven cleric leader's face, breaking his skull, and instantly one-shotting him, with my fist coming out the back of his head. I argued for a bit, having truly not wanted that result, but the DM said "Dude, you rolled 20 20 20 19". So I roleplayed it, "Damn these pansy Elves and their weak bones, I'm sorry, I never meant to kill ye Mr Cleric". I then proceeded to wash my hand off in a font of holy water, because I thought that was what my character would do, because having Elf brains on you fist would be pretty skeevy. All the other players wanted to question my alignment then, saying I should be forced to chaotic good instead of lawful good, but my DM was like, "Yeah, basically he's in PTSD right now, so whatever he does is correct".

The funniest Nat 20 incident which occurred to me, was during a Lord of the Rings Campaign. We reached the end of the campaign, Sauron (The Big Villain) Was just revived after the One Ring was returned to him. He is now unstoppable. So we, the fellowship, decide to put a spell upon our pet pig. In this campaign, we got Saruman to join us and leave Sauron. We had both Gandalf and Saruman's power. The DM told us to roll for the pigs' constitution and strength. Both rolled Nat 20. It gets better. Pippin decides, screw this. He takes a hypnosis potion and shoves it inside both wizards' mouths. DM tells Pippin to roll. NAT 20. So many Nat20s. Pippin decides that Gandalf and Saruman are no longer of us, so he forces them to transfer all magical and ethereal energy to the pig, transforming it into an Unkillable God. We confront Sauron. 1 hit KO. Sauron rolls a Nat 1 and we roll ANOTHER NAT20. IT WAS THE MOST LUCKIEST ROLLS IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. EVER.

Group is arguing over damage dice from enemies, saying damage is too high, and the possibility of taking massive damage is too high. DM argues the odds are low, other player says that rolling really high is too easy (considering that a npc just died of 11 damage from 3d4). Me and the DM don't take it seriously, saying the odds are very low, and we start joking about it. Other player starts saying that the dice rolls are rigged in a way against us, something that is taken out of correct understanding. DM jokes saying that he can roll certain numbers whenever he wants, and I joke saying, "Ah yes, and this is how you roll a Nat 20!" Roll, Nat 20. After some laughs, I convince the DM that my character, after a deadly and scary encounter with a necromancer and running away through a hallway, bends a dagger into a boomerang and throws it around the corner, curving it perfectly to stab the necromancer in the back of the neck, instantly killing him.

D&D 5e. My friend was running a one shot for us. It was set in a dream and we were fighting nightmares for people in the city of Sharn. Well our Bugbear barbarian was having a nightmare of his grandfather. (Apparently he was some not good guy, did a lot of piracy and was known as a dread pirate. Killed lots of people.) Well there was a tank, and I decided, hey does this tank work? DM had me roll a history check, one nat 20 later, and in this context of the dream world, my bard now knows how to use a very specific tank that was created during The Last War. I then proceeded to use the tank, and accidentally knocked two people out of the fight because apparently tank shells have splash damage. We still won the fight.

So i am a new DM and just an hour ago my crew of 2 morons were given money bags. One rolls a clean 10 and held it normally, While the Dwarf the shorty of the crew rolled a nat 20 and swung the bag up, Killing a guard and no one said a word. Then at the end with a they got paid (this was a one shot.) but this time he almosst killed their favorite NPC which they hired to join them and left him at 1 HP. Later i had them roll to dance on a striper pole. Another 20 and i told them they danced like a god on it and made the whole tavern throw 100 gold at them.

Am I the only one who loves his voice? While I was listening to this I was designing my DND character! Distar/distaria, hight:7”10 single parent of 2(Juju:12, Maxy:14, both adopted) a demon god/godess, huge horns with golden earrings/accessories and huge beat-up tail with at least 12 scars, 1 mechanical arm, and the other arm rapped up with (most likely 20+ scars and yes, they do take their kid on the less dangerous missions)

Second session. Party's first encounter with BBEG lich. Paladins yells "I run forward beseeching my god to strike down the monster." Ok, roll a d20 to see if you break through the noise of all the other prayers. 20. Hmmm.... ok, low level and finicky gods. Percentage roll to see if the god pays attention, percentage roll to see if they decide to act. Dont remember the difficulty I set but the rolls were 99 and 100. 😅 Had to pull an on the fly replotting of half a campaign setting.

I have a good story- wasn't a nat 20 but a COMPLETE LUCK moment: CHARACTERS (just in case): Dwarf cleric (me), And a Dragonborne (idk class) So picture this, our big dnd party was split up in separate groups and my group was just 2 people and me but on this one day one person wasn't there so it was just me and the Dragonborne. SO, we just investigated a spiral staircase and at the top was a golden door with a dial with some fancy letters/characters we didnt know the languages they were from. Dm: Dwarf, it's your turn! What do you want to do? Me: Can i try to use the dial to open the door? Dm: Sure! Choose which ones in order! (draws the dial and the letters on a paper) Me: (Selects letters) Dm: (In shock) You were so close- ONE WRONG Party: (In shock and celebrating as their watching) Me: This letter! Dm: (in COMPLETE shock) The door opens! Party: (Fucking cheering and celebrating that i got it) At the end the Dragonborne player cheered then high-fived me then we went on our way.

Today during my side party’s campaign finale, they were battling a green dragon and desperately tryin to get the upper hand.. the monk was behind the dragon and I casually said that whilst the dragons tail was swinging about, it missed him by a few feet bc he was underneath it.. on his turn he gets ready to do an attk roll whilst looking me dead in the eye and says Imma shove my quarterstaff up his- QUE THE NAT 20 😭 The dragon was.. surprised, to say the least 😃

So my party was fighting goblins and being absolutely destroyed. By the time we're a few rounds in, everyone except our bard and our cleric's badger familiar (Dupey) were unconscious. So it's our cleric's turn and after rolling his death save he asks if Dupey can attack a goblin. Our dm say fine, and rolls for Dupey. He gets this incredulous look on his face, and we all freak out about Dupey. So it turns out Dupey rolls a NAT 20. So he attacks the second to last goblin, killing him (he was already weak) and we all adore Dupey now.

Not DnD, but another System. In order to get a critical success two out of 3 D20 have to be a nat 1. I played a dwarfen warrior and EVERY SINGLE TIME he drunk beer, he rolled only crits afterwards. One time on stealth. The completly drunken dwarf ended up better hidden as the rogue

I am playing a nature domain cleric and the party was signing a contract to go dispose of a water elemental (forget the specific type but still water elemental) the entire party rolls to see how good the contract is in case there was anything suspicious we would want to know. 3 of the 4 total party members roll so low they have literally 0 suspicion on the contract, but then my character strolls up and proceeds to roll a nat 20. Due to me playing a nature domain cleric we played it as my character didn't think the contract was suspicious or anything, but instead he was offended that the contractor didn't pray to the paper before putting ink on it, thus I read the whole contract.

God that Horny Ranger story cracked me up that was funny! Out most recent was session last weekend, stopping would be assassins/terrorists trying to ruin the founding day festival for our base town. One ofthe would be terrorists rolled a 20 for stealth to sneak past my Teifling warlock but then rolled a nat one to dump a sack of poison into a vat or wine and dropped the posion everywhere but in the booze. he then ran for it. Dm "What do you do" Me " I chase it until there is no risk of collateral damage then blast it with Eldturch blast. Nat 20 to back of the head on a shot i said was intended to be non lethal so he could be interrorgated later. Rolled a 10 for damage doubled to 20 = my =4 for agoniaing modifer and the DM asked me to confirm that I was going none lethal "Yep want him alive" Dm grins "Ok you see your bolt of energy hit him in the back and he bounces back and forth of the alley walls like a pinball, breaking both legs, one arm and then faceplants knocking himself out". Took about 5 mins for all 4 players and the dm to stop laughing at that point, iirc of the 5 would be assasins only one died to a nat 1 and chopped his own foot in half with a dagger!

Less a funny nat 20, more an epic nat 20. We were helping the queen of some lizardfolk free her people from sahuagin-worshipping cultists, and we came to a room where one of them was praying. Our rogue snuck in, wasn't detected by the cultist, but *did* alert a couple of two-headed snake-demon-things. We rolled initiative. The only one in the room was the rogue, so on the first turn the rest of us had to charge into the room serving as a temple, and I was one of the first ones of our party in the initiative order. Now, I play a bladesinger wizard. As a squishy spellcaster, you'd think that I'd have the sense to NOT go charging in, sword first, and instead fire off some magic missiles at the cultist and his pet nope ropes. But, the wizard I play has two loves in life; fire, and stabbing things. So, since I don't yet have fireball...I run in with my sword out, and swing at the demon nope ropes. I get bit in the face. And I'm dealt damage equal to *exactly* the number of hit points I had left. So I go down, and I'm rolling death saves while the rest of the party is taking care of the rest of the enemies. My second death save, I roll a nat 20, and go back up to one hit point. So, I ask the DM if I can wake up and immediately attack the thing that had downed me in the first place, arguing that given that Kis is a fire-loving hothead with stabby tendencies, it wouldn't be out of character to be REALLY PISSED OFF about having to roll some death saves. They allowed it, and described how I woke up with a gasp and a yell of rage, swinging my scimitar out and cleaving the remaining snake demon in half...followed by me swearing at the dismembered (decapitated? Double decapitated?) corpse of the thing in elvish.

Not me but the Just Roll With It podcast has had some interesting ones. The Riptide campaign has three PCs: Gillion, a male Triton (fish person), Chip, a male human, and Jay, a female human. People like to ship Gillion and Chip even though the characters are not dating, and their ship name "Fish and Chips". The moment that came to mind was episode 21. Gillion finds a note at the bottom of the pool saying that they must perform an act of love to open the door. When he swims back up, he finds Chip and Jay entranced by their reflections in the pond. He breaks Chip out of it, and Chip starts freaking out, crying, and going on about how no one will ever love him. Gillion hugs him, and his player asks if it does anything but the DM says no, so he declares "I kiss him on the mouth!" Everyone else is confused but he states that he thinks it's the natural progression of things. The DM tells him and Chip's player to both roll a performance check to "show how genuine the kiss is." They both get a Nat 20. The DM describes their kiss in detail, telling Chip "This is, regrettably, the best kiss of your life." The door opens, Gillion saves Jay (she had started to drown in the pool due to the trance), and Chip told Gillion to not tell anyone about the kiss. The thing is, Gillion didn't really understand the importance of kissing in romance until later because it is different in Triton culture. The shippers went wild after that episode was released. Tl;Dr: Fish and Chips critical kiss.

I got a Nat 20 for the first time ever last night. I decided on a whim to roll a perception check. Nat 20. Why is this even worth commenting? I HAVEN'T HAD A GROUP TO PLAY WITH IN A FEW YEARS. DnDBeyond's digital D20 has a lot of nerve consistently sucking during sessions but giving me a Nat 20 when I decided to roll just to see what I'd get.

Old schoolers are pretty rough and loose with following "RAW" to begin with... Many of us grew up with the philosophy of "Never EVER let the rules get in the way of the game." SO when we didn't like something, we'd just change it. There are supplements even besides Dragon Magazine and the like for balancing the game while adding whatever homebrew you wish to create... Some GM's are a little more liberal about it than others... ;o)

@@gnarthdarkanen7464 I grew up playing the OG D&D in the late 70's. There weren't any "feats" or "abilities" in 2nd Ed. AD&D. If you wanted to do crazy shit you had to do ability checks to perform or fail.

@@johnliller No... I also started in OG D&D, only my parents didn't just get me ALL the core books. I got stuck with A ratty DMG and 3 friends trying to help me figure it out... SO we never shied away from building mechanics as we went... if we didn't like something, we wrote it up and stuck it in there... at least until we found supplements to help with it. Get in start chatting do my roll check. Nat 20, No big deal game starts a string of nat 1 and low rolls ensue. fine the dice are not with me. we take a small break i come back and do my roll check Nat 20, Ok start playing Low rolls and nat ones as far as the eyes can see. we call the game a while later and we chit chat. For S&G's i roll the dice Nat 20. Yeah my group was in tear laughing themselves silly over that.
