I have a friend who became pen pals with a girl in Russia while we were in high school. He could read her letters because his parents were Russian immigrants. After college, she got a student Visa and we got her enrolled at a junior college in our town. Every Halloween, they get dressed up as The Dread Pirate Roberts and Princess Buttercup. They've been married since 2010 and have 2 kids.

Here in my country (Sweden) I keep seeing older men with middle-aged or younger Thai partners and we've gotten an increased amount of Thai-massage parlors and Thai/Asian food restaurants in my city. Heard it's even more common further north and I brought this up to a colleague and she was all 'well have you seen OUR older women? We're not exactly easy to deal with'

My old nieghbor got himself a mail order bride from thailand. Married for 27 years and very happy. After ten years with him she revealed her initial plan: find a man, marry him and divorce after three years (minimum time to become permanent resident over here) her plan worked brilliantly at first, than after a year with him she realy fell in love wth him. She never divorced him, truly loves him and they have three kids.

My husband works with a guy who went to the Philippines on vacation without his wife. He brought back a woman that he had purchased as a mail order bride, thinking that they could all live together 😂. His wife thought otherwise, and divorced him and took him for half of everything and alimony. His new “wife” spends her nights out “cleaning” people’s houses, but a friend of theirs found her on Craigslist offering what was implied to be much different services than cleaning, and she’s never home at night. He works during the day, she’s gone when he gets home. Apparently someone is getting a piece of her-but it isn’t him 😂. I guess he’s lonelier now than he was before he got the new chick, because his wife actually loved him and spent time with him. I consider that karma at work, it always comes back around.

@Son Daruiyou don’t know this particular man or this area that we’re in. This guy is old and super fat, he rides a motorized cart everywhere. He couldn’t chase this young thing down if he wanted to in order to make her do anything. He has no friends to speak of, and this girl could have her pick of local guys because it’s really rural and she could run off with anyone. I think the arrangements suits her fine. He can barely move so he’s not really a problem, he has a house that she comes and goes from as she pleases all hours while he is home, and she’s home when he isn’t home to sleep. She’s alone and able to go wherever, whenever. I believe she was a prostitute in her home country-that’s the general consensus anyway, and just continued on with it here. Money is king, it’s all she cares about. Who knows, she could be helping family back home for all we know. This guy was just an easy mark and a place to stay. By all accounts he barely sees her now. She’s never there unless he isn’t.

I am alarmed that this thread makes this sound in any way like a good idea. My dad bought a mail order bride. He had just divorced my mom. He spent the last of his money on a house and a car for her. Then she drove away in the car and he defaulted on the house. Now he leeches off me. Thank you for inflicting your debt and poor decision making on me, father dear. Edit: I'm genuinely glad this worked out for some people, but only someone truly desperate would think this is a good idea. I love my dad, but it was a pathetic act of desperation by a man who seemed willing to drop the family he already had for the prospect of forming a new one. He got what he deserved, but now it's my own family paying the price.

There's this online dating service for my church, but its really more of a 'courtship' service. Either you're considering marriage or you want to get married. And most of the guys I know who have used it have wound up marrying sisters from third-world countries. So it kinda looks like a mail-order bride situation. 😂

A friend of ours married a Chinese Woman he met in Saudi Arabia working as engineer. She was divorced once and he has been divorced 5 times prior to meeting her. He is a spin thrift and was deep in debt to the point of bankruptcy and even owed money to the IRS, despite making really good money. She is a few years older than him, but doesn't look it. Long story short, she got him back on track financial. She had problems with him and we fell sorry for her having to put up with that, because she loves him alot.

I have no personal experience, but there was this woman from the Philippines who explained, on TV, that she always knew when such a marriage would last and when not. These women all send money back to their families. This is not negotiable. It is an important part of the purpose of moving to the west. She and her husband had agreed beforehand how much she was allowed to send. Such marriages last. Others send back money without telling their husbands. Those marriages never last.

I was holidaying in Thailand, and saw these potential Thai brides sitting at bars all over the place, and just wondered (not seriously) what life would be like to get one. Fast forward a year. I was at a bar in Copenhagen, and saw a white man (American, I think, at least 50 years old) sitting at a table with his Thai Bride and four of her Thai friends. They were very loud, and the man just sat there, sipping his beer. Then another white man and his Thai bride showed up. The Thai ladies all greeted/hugged each other like they were close friends. The men shook hands like they were meeting for the first time. I couldn't stop watching this weird group from across the room. I noticed the two Thai ladies were showing their wedding rings, whilst the others were drooling over them. The men just smiled, but with a face showing, 'What have I done?' Both men looked miserable, whilst the ladies was getting louder and louder (imagine a group of ladies out on a Saturday night, heading home after night of clubbing at 2am). You could tell the men were getting more embarrassed as more and more people were looking at them, including me. This bar was a dark, laid back place, built to look like a log cabin, with a fireplace nicely giving off heat on a cold night. TOTALLY not a place to be loud and obnoxious. Thought about my question I had in Thailand. Now I know the answer...... Get earplugs!

There was a man around age 50 who approached me at Walmart and I was 19 working as a cashier. He gave me his number and said he might need someone to clean or house sit or something. I was niave making 6 bucks an hour so I called him and what he really wanted was for me to sleep with him. Of course that's what he wanted but I was sheltered back then. Anyway of course I didn't sleep with him but he would still come through my line when he'd see me there and make small talk. He told me his wife died but I kinda of though he might just be trying to get me to pity him. Eventually I saw him come in with a small Asian lady. I'd guess Philippines. She was at least in the middle 30s and I thought that was nice at least he didn't order himself a really young gal. They seemed happy every time I'd see them.

Not exactly mail order, but similar. When my mom and stepdad got together, his youngest brother was married to a Thai woman named Narin (most people called her Nair- like the hair remove lotion) whom he met while deployed in the navy. My [step]grandma, her MIL, was very sweet to her, as was everyone else, but grandma was especially kind to all newcomers in the family. Anyway, the chick convinced my uncle to adopt this little boy who living back in Thailand with her mother. She claimed for years that it was her nephew but eventually confessed he was her son. My uncle agreed to the adoption and prepared the house just so. He went through all the scrutiny and screenings and paperwork and of course paid all the fees. All that was left was for her to make yet another trip to Thailand and bring his new son home. So she left. And he waited. And waited. She never returned. He had a super hard time getting a divorce because she stopped communicating with him at all. He spent a lot of time drinking for a couple years. Then he got back with and married the chick who cheated on him and then dumped him when he went into the navy and was deployed, like 17 years earlier. (At the wedding/reception, she tried to package it as a "feel good story" because "they were high school sweethearts and found their way back to one another" but she cheated on and dumped him and ended up being a pill head sooo...she also volentold my nephew, my best friend, and me into working the wedding- and for free! I'm talking decor, dj, food service, clean-up, all of it! Oh, but she did give my friend and I each a $3 bracelet with our first initial which turned our wrists green and gave my nephew a $5 watch. 👏🥳🙄🤦🏻‍♀️👍) They're still married. I used to babysit the daughter she entered the marriage with who was a kindergartener back then but is in college now. They also have a son who's 12 and who's friends with the sons of my old English teacher and the sex offender said English teacher married. So yeah. Idk which bride was worse.

@@captainmarvelous7678 I saw your reply for the first time yesterday and responded but apparently it didn't post or was taken down, I guess. Anyway, here it is again: My old English teacher married a convicted/registered sex offender. When I was in high school, she had 2 sons with him. My [step]uncle's son is the same age as-, and goes to school with-, my old English teacher's sons. Thus my uncle's son is friends with the sons of that teacher and her sex offender husband.

Former colleague of mine did this. He was a SysAdmin in IT when I met him. I don't know the leadup, I just know that when I met him, his home life with this woman was terrible and it showed at the office how miserable he was. I can't blame the wife for being unhappy with a guy that weighs 500 lbs, always smells like he can't reach his own asshole to wipe it, and will walk out of the room any time someone uses a swear word. He lateralled to a programing position in the same company, burned every bridge in our department, including me, on his way out. Never trust a grown man that has a problem with foul language.

A piece of advice for all of you men that want to go this route. If you marry a foreign woman, stay in her country. Have your assets in a trust so she cannot access them, and don't tell her about it. If you and her don't work out, just leave and come back to America. Don't have a kid with her.

Yes it's similar to meeting women here in that some are "bad" some are "good" you have to use common sense to pick up on red flags. They are more likely to desire a stable relationship with a "good" man because of the conditions they live in, so potentially could make better wives

See here’s the problem. These type of men think when they order a woman they essentially own them and they will act obedient, docile and grateful to be there. They can do what they want because they bought and paid for them. But a wife in most countries standards expect a certain lifestyle and grow with a cultural expectation of men. There will be cultural shock and they have (or now have) opinions to leave after marrying. Most men who go this route don’t want to act accordingly to their expectations of a husband, culturally and just in general they are usually immature. They just want to buy a woman and don’t think of the ramifications of a culture gap and being a husband.
