Thanks Erica. If the comp band they share is below the lowest number once will aceept, should we just put an end to the conversation right then? Or continue with the process and try and negotiate later?

Depends on how far below your target it is. Most recruiters aren't going to give you the full band, since that sets you up to feel disappointed. They will instead share the portion of the band that is typical for new hires. Say the band is 100k to 150k but the company targets new hires coming in with room at the top of the band. The recruiter might share 100k to 125k with you. So there's still a possibility that you will be able to negotiate higher than the upper end of the band they share. But keep in mind that you don't always want to be at the top of the band. It can't make you look expensive (and vulnerable to layoffs) and if you are at the top of the band, you may not be eligible for comp increases.
