Does anybody actually not understand that carbohydrates are fuel at this point. This video would have been relevant 10 years ago

And it's still relevant. We still need carbs for fuel. But it's also important to eat them with protein and fibre

Yeah that’s what’s so sad. Carnivore is one of the most popular diets at the moment and it promotes extreme carb restriction as do many others 😭 it’s a constant cycle. If I post any video containing carbohydrates at any point I get loads of comments telling me that that’s why im fat. To an extent I can’t even post images of fruit without hearing “carbs are bad”

There are MANY people who still don’t understand that carbs are fuel - so many that I’m surprised to see this comment.

I am a 45kg and 5 foot old woman. Yes, we eat A LOT of carbs because I work out for 3 hours lifting 2x-4x my bodyweight. Carbs = Strength. Carbs = Fuel for Endurance However, I still have 23 inch waistline. It is all about balance. Restriction is never effective.

Performance over health then? I'm not saying carbs are bad, but we choose better more natural quality no?

Why would you restrict yourself to “more natural quality” if carbs aren’t bad? And for some people they choose performance over health yes. For others they choose health over performance or are able to do both. Whoever’s body it is.. they get to choose.

It's so true-there's a huge misconception about what athletes actually eat. It’s refreshing to see research shedding light on the reality, especially with examples from Olympic athletes. Understanding this can make such a difference for those of us in fitness, whether it's Hyrox, CrossFit, or any other discipline. Thanks for highlighting this important insight! 💪🍽

Athlets eat Nutella. Everyone knows that ☝️. Seriously, athletes eat carbohydrates close to their training sessions to fuel their workouts. Even as an average person who trains for two hours about three to five times a week, you benefit from carbs around your training.

Not really. Athletes train hard and therefore burn alot of calories. Not hard to understand they can eat pretty much anything they want.

Carb's are fuel and we consume between 90 and 120 gram's of carbs per hour during endurance events via specialized sports drinks/bars etc. During multi day bikepacking events we eat every "bad" thing you can image at truck-stops and convenience stores enroute. All that crap food keeps us going for days. Carb's are great, when you need them, but most average people who "work out" are not actually training as much as they think they are and need a reality check. That is where using Olympian's or any other elite athlete,in the middle of a competition cycle is not productive. A pro athlete training 25-40 hrs a week is not living the same physical life as your average punter going to the gym three times a week for 45mins and walking the dog at home.A scaled explanation is needed so average Jane or Joe doesn't start eating 6000 to 8000 calories a day, 'cause that's what they do at the Olympics. Sounds like common sense I know but after working with the general public my whole life I have come to realize that common sense isn't always so common.

Literally everyone needs carbs and no one is intentionally eating 6000-8000 calories a day thinking they’re an Olympic athlete when they’re not. This entire statement is totally delulu. Also I know athletes at the Olympic and world champs level in several sports and virtually none of them train 25-40 hours a week. The only ones that might get remotely close to that are the triathletes. Your entire comments just seems completely made up at this point 😂 an attempt to intentionally misunderstand, exaggerate and make inflammatory claims. Weird.

@@sportybeth Your inability to have a rational discussion is remarkable. Instead of asking questions you immediately fall back to insulting people and then defer to telling them they don't know what they are talking about. Do you know how easy it is to rack up 25hrs a week as a full time athlete? Triathletes, swimmers ,cyclists, ultra-runners.rowers,nordic skiers ,etc, etc, do it all the time. The 35-40 hr people are ones who throw in skill work and gym work. They are rare but it does happen for short blocks, especially in Ultra-eundurance athletes. You live in Cornwall..Go ask some locals if they have ever heard of an Ultra triathlete/ultra runner mate of mine in Sennen Cove named Bob Brown. He will open your eyes to what people do out there. You won't though and I will wait for the next round of insults.

Almost all athletes eat a totally unhealthy diet. Cereal bars, sweets, fruit and other carbohydrates. Fruit juices and energy drinks - crap on all levels.
