It’s been over a year since this video was released, but KZbin recommends must’ve been looking out for me. I’ve been struggling with my health/weight loss balance since high school, and now I’m finally at a comfortable and progressive place. Not afraid of full fat, high protein, or carbohydrates. Recently though I feel like I’m resorting back to bad habits because I’ve become impatient and unsatisfied with the speed of my journey. I want it to be like magic. So this video was an amazing wake-up-call. I can really see my past self here, and it’s frightful. I really appreciate you, Will. I don’t want to go back to starving myself and stepping on the scale like every time I do an angel gets it’s wings or something. @@Beemmeupz no that’s not the difference between ed’s and crash diets. less than 6% of people with eating disorders are classified as medically underweight and weight is not the criteria for an ed. The differences between the two are mental because Ed’s are mental illnesses. What makes them different is someone’s relationship with food and with weight. It’s also not about physical health because crash diets are unhealthy as well and Ed’s can sometimes have horrible health consequences but thats not a requirement what they do all share in common is the horrible mental consequences

In particular for boys when someone isn’t underweight disordered eating often goes unnoticed and gets packaged as an “intense diet”. Nightmares about food, irrational food rules things like eating ice alone are all common experiences of an Ed. Depends on your school. Schools in Europe have everything North Americans complain aren’t taught in schools.. But there were only 90 people in my ‘grade’ during ‘highschool’, so we also have smaller classes for better learning.

@@brin1034 yeah I mean I don't know about the rest of Europe but I didn't learn this stuff in my school in the uk. We got told the usual eat less sugar move more as far as health went and received petty much no information about eating disorders beyond the stereotypes in media. I think particularly conferring the rise in ed's in the uk in the last year even there should be some education on what an unhealthy relationship with food can look like warning signs of this and sustainable nutrition advice so the many teenagers who may fall into ed's due to a decision to get fit can avoid them.
@ThumpRat
@ThumpRat Жыл бұрын
@@isabellag2371 Beyond overeating, eating disorders are largely social contagions among teenagers. There was a story about how in Hong Kong, a popular girls magazine wrote about an American girl suffering from bulimia. Within months, suddenly there was an epidemic of young girls with rapid onset eating disorders. The over-pathologising of the human condition has undoubtedly been a negative for society, there should be sensible advice on nutrition for kids but spreading 'awareness' about mental health and eating disorders just leads to more sick kids.
@isabellag2371
@isabellag2371 Жыл бұрын
@@ThumpRat I personally feel lack of education on healthy eating and healthy weight loss was defiantly what lead me and others I knew as a teenager down a rabbit hole of “advice” which was disordered and confusion. I understand your point that education on eating disorders is a different thing and I agree that sometimes “education” particularly accounts from people who had a eating disorder can just end up inspiring more of them and providing “tools” to further them but I also know that if my future self had told my younger self a bit about just how harmful and ineffective my disordered eating would be I would never have done that because while I knew what I was getting into was an Ed to begin with however I thought that the single consequence would be not getting to eat the food I enjoyed. It obviously a delicate and upsetting subject but they are rising rapidly romanticised and I think that teens need to be aware of the horrible reality of them
@koo44m
@koo44m Жыл бұрын
@@ThumpRat i really think that depends on the 'awareness' - obviously it shouldn't be put as simply as "oh x wanted to lose weight quick and this is what they did but it's bad don't do that" with no further explanation, but i feel like in particular with eating disorders more people need to know how damaging it can be, like the heart damage and overall organ damage it can cause, the brain fog and memory deterioriation, osteoporosis, the side effects like hair growth in weird places, tooth decay etc. if people knew more about the horrible lasting effects it can leave, i feel like that awareness would definitely lead to less people trying to copy what they're told about. the thing is with some people, even if you tell them how bad it is, they'll still do it anyway but that's not an issue with spreading awareness, that's people who are already sick, but sadly you can't avoid that.

Interestingly, I had a similar story, but in my late 30's. I restricted calories and ran. I ran my arse off and over a course of a year and a half I lost 140lb. For 5yrs I ran on avg 8 miles a day. While I did add strength training two days a week I didn't focus as much on strength as I should have. I also got lazy on my diet because I was burning so many calories from running that I let running be the dictator on how much I eat. Sadly, I tore my Achillies and also hurt my lower back in a strength training incident that drastically reduced my ability to work out. My diet was so bad and along with age now a year shy of 50 I am back up 80lb and struggling. Looking back I wish I talked to a nutritionist and hired a coach to help me with a lifestyle change and guide me on how to properly work out. I am doing that now, but I wish I did it earlier.

Thank you Will for always being transparent and showing us how to have a healthier relationship with food. Losing weight is so mentally hard and I've definitely dieted extreme in the past too. I looked like a melted down version of the same shape I started out as after losing almost 30lbs at the time. Not the results I wanted at all, but your videos have taught me a ton about how to approach weightloss the right way.

Hey Will, I really enjoy it when you give some insights into your past disordered eating, it's especially relatable as I'm also somebody who is trying to improve my body composition and strength. Sometimes it feels like men don't really have a voice for these kinds of issues, and I think this is a starting point for that to change. I've recently been struggling with this on my cut, and I clearly still have a lot of mental gains to make.

Ages 19-22 I had a severe eating disorder. I went from 10 stone to 7 stone in 3 months (bare in mind in 5ft 8) and I worked out 4 hours a day at the gym, was on my feet for 10 hours a day at work then I would walk 4 miles home every. Single. Day. Not to mention I was terrified of food. I felt so much hatred and so disgusting every time I ate. Man I hated my life so much then I’m so so glad I’m out of that phase of my life. I’m 30 now with 2 kids and I could never imagine them treating their body that way

I have autoimmune Thyroiditis and have been trying insanely hard to lose weight and it has been rough. Counting calories and macros, getting good sleep, weightlifting on top of an hour of cardio every day ( ran/ walked 5 miles in 70 min the other day woohoo) and with all of this I find losing weight insanely hard. Yes my volume when training has gone up a lot, and I can withstand way more work and weight, so I am def getting stronger, but I am also addicted to weighing myself everyday, and when I don't see that numberr go down, or instead go up in the mornings, it destorys me... Thanks for making this video, going to try and learn as much as I can from it, and keep trying. I am determined to change my body and my life, and even though its been annoying, and unfair, I am going to keep pushing, because you showed me I can do it. Thanks Will

Hi. I'm a 54 old lady. I cured my psoriatic arthritis and lost 80lbs changing nothing but adding hydrogen peroxide 35 percent food grade. 1 drop 3x a day. Going up one drop until day 25 at 25 drops. But irs harsh so I stopped at 18 drops. No caffeine or alcohol. 1 hour before you eat or 3 hours after. Get a dropper. The book is one minute cure. No metal cups. Go to local health food store. No gnc. Keep big bottle in freezer. 45 bucks a bottle for the year.

Really needed this today. So glad I found your channel. A weight loss 'journey' is such a weird thing for me now in my late 30s, as my teens were made up of as little food as I could eat / get away with no one noticing. Doing a 48 hour fast that I kind of 'fell' into, and it brings back a lot of those reminders / feelings. I've been on a medically-recommended 800 calorie a day Huel diet 5 days a week for 11 weeks. I'm below 180lb for the first time in a decade, but I can so easily fall into the mindset of "not enough, not enough". Grateful for you showing that you could've lost the weight in a more healthy way. Thank you for sharing your story.

Hello, I came across your video on my feed. This video brought back some memories because it reminded me of how my diet has evolved as a teenager to an adult that is 5 years post partum. I would do crash diets to loose weight fast as a younger person whereas now I eat whole foods. I greatly appreciate that you discussed the proces of how your diet evolved from restrictions to a healthy balance. In addition, I really liked how you put a humorous spin on it. Keep the videos coming.

I went from 227 in September of 2020 to 164 by June 2021. Best advice: meal prep (or at least know what you’re going to eat that day so you’re not winging it when you’re starving), weigh yourself every morning, take a progress picture once a month, have a cheat meal once a week (every Saturday for me), and most importantly: enjoy what you eat.

This one really hit for me Will, I was reminded of my phase of doing this where I would take an already small potion of food, and then always half it, I didn't let myself eat sweets or drink, or do anything fun, wouldn't go to any food-cenric events. I wouldn't even eat carrots because they had too much sugar. I then passed out after one drink at a party because I hadn't eaten, and went on a spiral and very quickly gained all the weight back. I always think of that sad girl and all the life she missed out on. Thanks to you and Pamela Reif I have been at a stable weight for 2 years now, which is a huge milestone for me. I really appreciate your videos. (Also, I'm in Vancouver BC, please do a doughnut road trip here, there's lots of good ones!).

I did almost exactly the same things you did on my own weight loss journey two years ago. I cut out most of my food, especially the carbs, and ate almost nothing. Coffee always kept me away from eating. I went from 85kg to only 55kg in a bit more than a year completely without doing any sports or exercise. I was massively underweight but still not happy with my body. I put on a few kilos the year after but didn't change any of my exercise habits. That all changed about four months ago. I went on my first ever run and got a gym membership. I now train nearly every day, am able to run a half marathon in decent time and changed the way I look at food. All of that helped me gain about 15 Kilos in the last 12 months, mostly muscles. All of that being said, our journeys are incredibly similar and you are a great idol of mine. Thank you so much for the great content you make. I already learned much from you and look forward to using your advices in the coming year!
