There's a difference between fake media and facts. How many shootings do you have over there? This isn't media telling us this, this is facts, this is what goes on in america. Unlike america, news in australia is news. There's no bias. They say it as it is and that's that
@tidefanyankee24285 жыл бұрын
@@NinjoOnline To say there isn't ANY bias in Australian news is absurd. There is bias in pretty much every type of media. The media can and does put a spin on just about everything. It all depends on what perspective a reporter writes/reports any given story from. There are shootings in America, and the overwhelming majority of them are in areas that have been controlled by liberals for decades. I addressed this in another post concerning this video. Those liberal areas can't get their own houses in order, but they want to tell the rest of the country what to do. It's absurd for the folks who control those areas to tell everyone else what they should do when they can't handle their own cities. The overwhelming majority of the violence is gang related. But those cities can't seem to get a handle on that. And it IS the cities. Chicago, Detroit, D.C., Philly, Baltimore, Memphis, Atlanta, St Louis and L.A....All those cities are controlled by the democrats (who are against firearms) and they are the cities with the most shootings.

You weren't paying attention. Quite a few of the people interviewed had been in the US, some multiple times. If that is their opinion, so be it. They seem to be much better informed about the US, than the people posting on this forum are about Australia. Our health care system is shit. We have more uninsured than any other developed country in the world. We have higher rates of morbidity, obesity, diabetes, than anyone else. In fact, there are some third world, developing countries that have better health care systems than we do in the US of A. In addition, it is clear that the America they find compelling, interesting is not the gun totin', bible thumpers of the Deep Red states but coastal areas so detested by a number of posters here. National Parks; check, films i.e. Hollywood; check, a lot of cool stuff, inventions, companies (Macca's a Californian Company) ; check! Code for horror of horrors, California, cool stuff, trend setters, inventions i.e. internet, HP, innovation, etc Not words associated with your bargain variety Red State. Variety of foods, that again would be coastal states. The US has the greatest income disparity in the developed world not even close. Conclusions Australians are open minded, have traveled to the US, appreciate us in spite of Donny Dimwit and lack of gun control, do admire Coastal States, and would not be caught dead in Red States because they don't wanna get shot in the head for asking directions when lost.

@Johnny Sinns the point is to deter the government from turning the military on you, not to take on the military head on. This is actually s very hard science; armed populations deter incursions. The Japanese never invaded the US mainland due to the population being armed. If they had invaded, they definitely would have occupied territory but it would be at great cost. That is the point of an armed population.Fear is a very good thing. Being terrified of each other is exactly what civilization is. I see your point with not being obsessed with it though. There does need to be some control to not undermine its point.

Of course all countries have issues what a surprise. But look, the US has different problems! And more, and bigger too. I would almost consider healthcare as a disaster. Such a rich country, with endless homeless going to shit with nobody even raising an eyebrow. (Not just homeless people). Heavy drug problems, gun laws wich are indeed a disaster that lasted all the way here from the western times, wars, food, politics, racism, education. And there‘s much more. You can not justify it like that. With the microscope.

I just returned to the states after my second February in Melbourne, Australia. The Australians are very similar to people in the US (except for the accent). I’ve been to 30 countries and I would rank the Aussies in the top three (the Irish and the Costa Ricans) in terms of friendliness. They are far more interested in US politics than most people in the US. Their media sucks every bit as much as ours. I expected the entire country to be on fire, and that was not the case even in Gippsland. I successfully contributed to the economy one beer at a time. Aussie beef and lamb are far better. The food in general is really great down under. My Aussie friends love to go to the gun range when they visit the US. I can’t wait to go back next February. Most people from the US would feel right at home in Australia after they get over the sticker shock. Housing is ridiculously expensive.

I think there are some American stereotypes that apply to specific groups, but rarely, if ever, to the country at large. I could tell from this video that a lot of Australians consume our media, which gives an extremely left wing, progressive slant to everything. The guy at 3:46 was absolutely right. We have a huge problem with biased media, and you’re not ever going to get an accurate picture of the US unless you come here and talk to an average person. We’re not all gun nuts, mass shootings are extremely rare, and Trump is not that bad. While the political climate is definitely getting more polarized, we, as average Americans, still get along quite nicely. Employment is up, the economy is strong, and crime is down. Life is good here in the freest nation on earth.

As an American, I'm surprised you got Harambe down. Thats a niche thing that struck chords with Americans. Bad mothering let her child get into a gorilla exhibit. so they felt compelled to kill the gorilla, Harambe. Because, even tranquilizing, would potentially anger Harambe, who might in turn kill the child... I'm from the Grand Canyon state and we are known to have the freest gun rules in the world. We farm/ranch on our land and have abandoned the cities. We couldn't live crammed together in the cities and you downright will never be able to take our gun rights away, even an inch. We'll die for that. "From my cold dead hands" is the reality. The guns give us political power globally whether Aussies and Kiwis understand that, and likewise we are worried our brothers and sisters in Australia are having their rights stripped away, and that it will continue to domino away all your rights, "anything in the name of security". We understand Americans are mischaracterized routinely and obfuscated throughout the global news but we know those types are everywhere and only happen because we are the most influential, and thus arguably the most important/greatest. But our city living has been decimated by unsound dezoning and forced integration. It's not just racists who cause a problem, sometimes they have genuine grievances backed up by not only experience but FBI data. It also affected public schooling and furthered it's demise. However you believe, it's had noticeable effects for the worse. God bless Australia!

Australians were raised watching predominately American Tv shows, Movies, reading the glossy mags, listening to American music and have got all the big news stories from America. We are a isolated country, with no shared borders with only 26 million people so whilst we watch and love America from a distance, sometimes the large similarities between our countries make some young people feel like we could run the same. The big difference they forget is America is a world Superpower and has been for a very long time and standing up for their constitution is a big thing because it represents their authority to stand up and defend other countries as well as stand up to other countries. Whilst gun control in Australia has worked, it was because the majority wanted it to not because they were forced to which makes a difference. Americans have always appeared to be strong because of their appearance of unity and patriotism. Australians do understand the basic politics and can for the most part read between the lines of certain news reports in the Us and tell what is real and what is bias because we don’t have the emotional ties to either side, but it always seems simple and easy to “fix” other peoples problems than it is to fix your own. Feelings and loyalties and principals hinder it from being so easy. I think the outside world is just seeing lots of news content that portrays a big divide amongst the people with politics and gun subject without showing the unity most people in the country I imagine enjoy. It’s a bit unsettling for other countries I suppose because we rely on America to be the strong, free, united, cool, calm, collected and sparkling lucky country where dreams come true country we all know and love and how it is usually portrayed. Lots of Australians love America and it’s people and we have for a long time and every country comes with the good and the bad. I remember Americans reporting on Australia during the pandemic and seeing how way out of proportion and untrue the whole government having concentration camps and locking us all up. A few extremist groups of passionate people twisted and manipulated the mostly quite reasonable quarantine laws and made Australia out to be being mistreated by the police and being oppressed. There may have been a few isolated issues but it’s always the same people out to cause trouble and are involved in protesting anything no matter the cause. So many Australians remained completely unaffected by Covid and went about life pretty normally. A lot of us saw a news video of peoplein the US protesting to save us and a lot of us couldn’t understand what we needed to be saved from and whom.

I agree. What America thinks we went thru is so completely over the top and simply not true. Some footage of a few isolated incidents are blown way out of perspective and over dramatised to make it appear like the norm or a usual ongoing crisis when in fact a very large majority of the 26 million population managed with the situation very well. The state I live in were barely affected during the whole two years with a few short lockdowns and sensible safeguards. Melbourne had it a lot longer but there are sone groups of people in Melbourne that protest and complain and cause trouble and havoc every other week about something. It always seems to be the same group of people who are troublemakers and complain about everything and make up some huge ridiculous spin to a story to suit their agenda. Australia was perfectly happy with the way Covid was handled and the Govt did a pretty good job as far as I was concerned. Even if a million people were unhappy and were angry and protested, it would still be a minority of people that were unhappy with the safeguards.

Here's the thing people we Americans hate our own politics. I can't stand our politics and I'm an American our politics are a joke. but when you're talking about the horrid homeless rate and selfish materialistic wealth you're talking mainly about California most Australians only see California and yes California is still a beautiful state. It seems like you guys listen too much to the media it is very biased you'll just confuse yourself listening to our media they are incredibly unreliable. Answer this, why are so many foreign people wanting to move to our country all the time? Also visit our other states you'd be surprised we are literally a melting pot we got everything. It's not perfect but it comes close in my book. I still would not trade it for the world but we still got a lot of work to do. We still have our customs, freedom to make our own choices. You can make your own business, make more money the pros go on and on. we got a lot of good things going for us here. It's not all bad. Some states are worse ran than others let me tell you I live in a bad state Illinois nothing but high taxes and issues. Americans we literally get along with everybody minus the political views/spectrum. Feast or famine is the way I put it.

In 2016 Bernie ran on strong borders, ending NAFTA, universal healthcare for Americans, and moderate gun policy. Which is why American workers in the north voted for both Bernie and trump and what ultimately caused trump to win the presidency. Because the establishment said NAFTA could not be redone and trump made a deal in 7months. Which has sat in congress since, and no ones said anything about it since which is infuriating. Bernie now wants healthcare for all residents not just naturally born or immigrated citizens but illegal citizens as well and wants to completely decriminalize border crossings. Resources are finite even in America. I’d also be willing to say that a major reason the unemployment is so low under both Obama and trump is because of the larger amounts of deportations. That fault also doesn’t just fall on the illegal residents but also on the companies that knowingly and willingly hire them. Not to mention Bernie got dooped last election by the DNC is likely that he’s going more establishment with his policies to try and avoid that possibility again. Which is said because as I said before Bernie was extremely reasonable in 2016

Let me clear a misconception. While healthcare CAN be very expensive, especially for people in their elderly ages, healthcare plans have many tiers ranging from $100/MO for an HMO to $250/+/mo. Poor citizens like me receive free health care from the state (medicaid) if they are under a certain poverty level, like under 20k/ YR. Thanks to Barack Obama. My state's free plan us called Washington Apple. Before Obama's administration, medicaid/medicare was only for senior citizens like 65+. Since I don't live with my parents, the country considers me for services as a household of 1. I also receive financial aid for being under an income cap. 2nd misconception: Americans are not educated. While certain dialects may seem like we are dumb, individual perceptions of people based on dialect leads to a perverted viewpoint. Quite a few Americans hold degrees. While the quality of education may be better elsewhere, it doesn't mean they are not educated. However, there MIGHT be subjects that we don't like. For example, I HATE history classes even though I have not taken a college history class, just due to the stigma attached to it. History professors are known for assigning unforgiving amounts of reading. Some universities don't even require a history course as part of their general education requirements. However, just because history is not required, it doesn't make anyone less smart. Most universities are interested in building diversity and educating students about other cultures or about power, privilege, and differences from within our own society. And even if we cannot recall everything that we learned, it should used as a qualitative measurement. And then there's the oh so popular fallacy what one of your interviewees stated about assumptions. Obviously, what is true for 1 person, is not true for all. In fact, stereotyping can lead to racist practices, not necessarily racism itself. Sometimes people just repeat what they have learned during socialization and later have to "un-learn" it as they know it's a bad habit. Even though a person may not be racist or prejudiced against something, their statement can hurt someone and they might be oblivious to this idea. Even when someone makes a comment about physical ability or being in a wheelchair, a disabled person may be hurt because of the other person's comments, even though they are not prejudiced toward people who are not able-bodied. Some people are, however, prejudiced about this social identity, but the person who was hurt want be able to differentiate the person telling a joke from the person who is truly prejudiced. That's why stereotypes of any kind should be avoided. This goes for ANY stereotype for any part of a person's social identity -- race, class, gender, age, ability, sexual orientation, and other of our intersectional parts of identity.

Wow. Such a difference in just 5 years. It's scary how influential the media is in influencing opinions, both in the USA and Australia. America hasn't undergone a major cultural shift since 2014 but the opinions here are much more negative. It's quite sad. I appreciated that the older folks seemed more measured in their responses (both compliments and critiques), Interesting that the most opinionated and critical group were the teens. They are also the ones with no real first hand experience in the USA (plus, who doesn't love being lectured by a 17 year old about the merits of socialism), Sigh. Again, the media is scary.

You have to pay for health care too, the difference is you don't know how much you pay. It is also important to note that the U.S. subsidizes the health care system around the world by investing in new medical treatment, new drugs, etc. Our universities work directly with private corporation doing essential research needed to make the strides in medicine that have been made over the last century. Lived in three states including Texas and don't know anyone who owns a gun, though I defend the right of Americans to own guns as guaranteed by our Constitution. The Americans would never have lost the war for independence ... we would have kept fighting until the British left us alone (wouldn't have been possible if colonists didn't own guns). Losing to the Brits and beating the Brits is a very big difference. Many of the people interviewed just parrot what the political left and main stream media says about the U.S. We welcome you to come here for a visit; but if you only visit the west coast or north east coast you won't see the real America. Australia is a friend and ally. Fourteen of the top twenty ranked universities are in the U.S. None are in Australia ... so much for being uneducated. The U.S. unwillingly (the people did not want to get involved in foreign wars and most of us still don't) saved Europe twice (WWI and WWII) and saved Australia from Japan in WWII. The only reason why the U.S. military remains in Europe is so we don't have to save Europe again since they seem unwilling or unable to defend themselves. The same cannot be said about Australia.
