@@jamberry8026 But is the sort of thing that people are shown going through in this video necessarily always an indication of self-acceptance? I mean, I'm not saying this is necessarily the case in every case, but any number of people (whether white, black, or otherwise) who buy and use various so-called beauty products may do so in attempt to beautify what they happen to consider (and also happen to deeply feel) to be their own NOT inherently beautiful appearance (or, even worse, to be their own not inherently beautiful self) is questionably deemed as being any indicator of self-acceptance. Again, I'm not saying that this is necessarily the case in every case, but some people may be so deeply lacking in self-esteem, self-acceptance, and self-love that they happen to instead feel and believe that they ABSOLTUELY HAVE TO wear (for example) fingernails that are not their own natural fingernails, hair that is not their own natural hair, eyelashes that are not their own natural eyelashes, etc., or else (they feel and believe) neither be - nor feel - good enough, acceptable, worthy of acceptance, beautiful, etc.. Other people may instead wear those very same sorts of things, but do so while WITHOUT having the belief and the feeling that they absolutely have to do so in order to be and to feel good enough, acceptable, worthy of acceptance, beautiful, etc..

However, I was not merely (metaphorically) "trying to say", but actually did (metaphorically) "say" . The thing is, opinions and beliefs regarding any situation are not necessarily in keeping with what is the reality of that situation. So, to use an anology: Just because YOU might happen to not see something somewhere (and may, therefore, hold belief of there being nothing there), that does not necessarily mean that there IS NOT anything there - even without your happening to see it (and even without your happening to believe there to be anything there). Likewise, just because someone might seem to YOU to have said anything that (supposedly) says nothing, that does not necessarily mean that person has indeed said anything that says nothing. I would argue, when people say that our hair/beauty/ fashion choices, aren't related to our culture, I wonder about the ways in which most of us are the descendants of enslaved peoples, that we were stripped from our culture, and thusly didn't have one anymore? These enslaved people literally wore rags, their hair was treated like sheep wool. To say that "it's just hair", when we've been denied the right to be ourselves for centuries, to you, maybe, but not for us. I love seeing black people, happy, and beautiful, because I think it is the least of what we deserve.

While I agree that "Decoration and adornment can be a joyful radical act," it seems to me that (in various cases), adding to one's appearance can instead be done from the position of having an absence of self-esteem. The same sorts of things that can be used as a way to decorate and to adorn the body can also be used as a way to cover or to disguise various aspects of the body's (would- be) appearance that happen to be neither thought nor felt (by the person his or her self) to be beautiful - in and of themselves - while unadorned, undecorated, and uncovered. In other words, although some people may look at their own naked appearance in a mirror (or may intentionally not do so) while thinking and feeling that one or more aspects of their self (even such as any part or more of their appearance, for example) is wrong, others may look at their naked body in a mirror (or happen to not do so) but while not also thinking and feeling that there is anything wrong about any of their appearance (and/or even while not also thinking and feeling that there is anything wrong about any of their self).

I love how you claim there's such a thing as a black culture when in Africa every village speaks a different language and has different customs...
@@freedomordeath89 Yeah, what I mean by Black Culture, I mean of people of the African Diaspora who live in other countries besides the African continent. They bring along their customs and culture and make a whole other culture (Gullah, Creole, etc). I'm not diminishing the variety of cultures, languages, and customs in Africa.
