There is also VGLI which is up to $400,000 that you might still be eligible to start I think you have to start within 6 months of leaving service, but that may have changed. Reach out to a Veterans Service Organization (VSO) representative. They will know everything you are eligible for and be able to answer questions you didn’t even know to ask. Thank you for your service

That program has been replaced - it stopped taking new applications on 12/31 but was replaced with a program called VALife. It appears that the major difference is the fact that premiums payments can not be waived. For the veteran with uninsurable status, he should still be able to buy VGLI life insurance through the same route he had his SGLI when he was active. I could be wrong, but I’m fairly certain they wouldn’t disqualify him for PTSD since it is specifically veteran life insurance.

I kinda realize that the moment you start not being interested in your current job/career, or start having a desire to do another job/career, THAT IS THE MOMENT you start getting yourself certified for that new desired field. Start doing your classes and stuff. Because, it is likely that if you wait, and then you REALLY get fed-up with your current career, having to then start to take classes/plan for the switch, which may involve staying in your current field for 2 years to cashflow the career switch, may become stressful.

40:00 - The "other side of the argument" that John is not seeing, or just doesn't want to recognize, is that the caller was getting denied life insurance because PTSD has a high self-deletion risk. The various life insurance companies are in the money making business at the end of the day, even if they package their services in platitudes and niceties.. there is simply too much "risk" to provide a life insurance policy to someone with military PTSD bc of the unfortunate statistics that result from that. .similar to how if you have cancer it would be bear impossible to get life insurance.

Is it not possible to write an insurance policy that does not pay out in the event of suicide? The advice they gave to Erica was awful. If she is at fault, her auto insurance should be paying the $5k. None of the 50 states have a minimum coverage requirement below 5k. If she doesn’t have auto insurance, she’s illegally operating a vehicle without insurance, she shouldn’t be driving, and her problems are way bigger than the 5k. They definitely didn’t ask her enough questions. Dave would have handled this so much better.

Rule, house monthly payment is no more than 25% of your monthly net pay. If you do not have kids, skip this step and move on to the next step. You can always come back to this step when you do have a kid.
