Love the series but first time i had to turn it off before the end. My gripes 1. You should have the collegue who chooses the mystery bike in shot to present. 2. Whos is choosing who comes on these shows? 8 episodes and not one looks like they actually want a bike literally just a day out riding bikes and getting on screen. 3. This guy in this episode 🙈 like honestly 10 bikes in 4 years and 2 of them were lockdown. Wants a new bike after only having a gsx for 6 weeks but wont part that in for a bigger budget. I knew straight away you could of put a brand new multistrada in front of him for 5k and he wouldnt of taken it. Waste of your time and you guys were amazing handling him. Kudos to you guys

Having owned a Honda CBF 1000 for 12 years, and put 80k miles on it, I can confirm that would have been the perfect bike for him. My commute was similar being 25 miles motorway, and then 15 into central London. I also toured Europe regularly and did a 4k mile trip to the Arctic Circle when it already had 70k miles on it! What a bike! Age now means I get uncomfortable after about an hour on it, but it still brings a smile to my face.

How can anyone hate triples? After 30+ bikes my conclusion is the speed triple 1050 is the greatest bike I’ve ever had, largely because of the engine…torque like a twin, legs like a 4, smooth as hell, fuelling like butter, positive gearbox, sounds absolutely incredible, perfect amount of tractable power on the road, looks breathtaking and it’s comfortable! God I love my triple 😊

@@blindmaninchainsthey’re the perfect balance of the two, sure they’re not as intense either low or high but they perfectly balance the two engine characteristics. Every bike chosen was 1 closer to the high side of the budget and 2 was over budget.

I am in the same situation, riding 3 hours a day from home to my working area, which is Brussels -Antwerp. I ride year round all weather, because I gain between 1 and 2.5 hours a day lane filtering. I do this on my S1000XR. I just got a second bike, for winter and bad weather use, a 2009 K1300GT, with only 23000 kms on the clock. With the added protection, shaft drive and heated seats, i think it will complement the XR perfectly. PAyed 9000 euros including 2 years dealer warranty. I'm 57 years old, 1m90 and 120 kgs, so I need a big bike. Being inline 4's, both bikes are narrow enough when i leave the side panniers at home and only use the big topbox.

I would have just used the GSXR 750 for commuting unless it's immaculate and he wanted to keep it that way. Very reliable being truly built in Japan. Easy to service yourself with parts everywhere and interchangeable with the 600. Comfortable for a sports bike. Better wind protection than a naked. Very slim with folding mirrors which is great for London filtering. Only downside of GSXR 600s/750s is lack of ABS in winter. You probably don't need paniers for commuting with a combination of saddle bag, tank bag and backpack.

And his height is no problem on this beast , This comes in well under budget . Not convinced take your wife for a ride and see what she thinks . The pillion position I hear is very nice . Even in a light rain you remain mostly dry when moving . My 2010 GL1800 has over 238,000 klms navi comfort/darksided was $6300. can. To me he sounded like he was done canon carving and need the gentlemans commonsense bike . You know the " family man's " bike lol . I just bought the new to North American Honda XR150L more then to much fun , no wind protection looking for a good shield and only $5300.can. plated out the door . the seat is quite comfortable. great fuel mileage as well . With the saving of money buy her her own XR150L . Problem solved. Did I mentioned I have a Honda Navi as well because its easier to drive then a bicycle, a CVT so automatic one handed operation. When you guys say there’s room for negotiations what do you mean because Iv had a few friends buy bikes from super bike factory and there’s no movement in price at all

Really enjoying this series. Great job lads. I would have guessed a Versys 1000 would tick all the boxes but he said he'd had a Vstrom 1000 so maybe not.

Versys 1000 would be a great choice-closer to the ergonomics and handling of the Tracer, but with a torquey inline-4.

One of the best bikes in this category is the Kawasaki SX 1000 I have one it’s a brilliant machine but he would need to go for a 2015 I would of thought with £ 5000 budget then the mileage would possibly be higher,

The 2014-21 VFR800F is also Vtec....albeit better transition in/out of most responsive rpm range .

I had a 2002 red VFR800, what a FANTASTIC bike that was. Timeless looks, legendary Honda quality. However, I would take the Yamaha. The "snatchy" throttle can easily be worked out with a proper ecu tuning.

Or just B mode, which btw. does not cut the power.

I was goding to say Tracer to start with but really, it’s a hard thing to chose for the man who wants everything. Versys 1000?

When you are that fussy it's very hard to find a bike you will be happy with. Limit your shortlist.

This has been on my mind. My next bike, hum. Noobie here, 6 months in and just over 7,000 miles already, on my first bike. It's a 05 suzuki Boulevard M50, and I love this bike. Handles the twisties well, with a very comfortable feel. Though I do love this bike, I'm already thinking about my next one. Kinda thinking about another Boulevard or an Adventure bike or maybe a Spots Bike (kinda feeling the need for speed). Not the crotch rocket type. Oh, I did just put on a new Perellie Night Dragon on the front.

As soon as he mentiomed that hed had 10 bikes in 4 years, of various genres, you guys were doomed. He has no idea what hes actually looking for, but plenty of things he doesnt like. It sounds like the tracer was close but didnt like the throttle. Maybe a TDM850/900 would be the ticket.

Such a shame Yamaha can’t map their bikes properly from standard, all of their modern cross plane bikes need remapping - once done they are fantastic

I would go for a Honda Deauville or PC 800, i know, not very glamorous but will get the job done! Only problem is the spare part market (at least in Italy, wasn't really popular bikes). Now let's see the episode.

Guys come on . Benn said he didn't like adventure bikes . He wanted a good all rounder ie motorway and town. I would have gone straight for the Yamaha MT series of bikes . I want an MT 10 it's just awesome. Great series of streams but not enough of them . Gold on KZbin. Thanks Dave

I really enjoyed this episode, Ben was fantastic as a candidate. I'm in the similar situation to him, as well as being a similar size...and I came from a VFR800F (after an CRF1000L DCT...after a CB500X). And of all the things you talked about...it's made me thinking about the VFR1200F. I think I need to give one of them a go, because the prices on them is incredible value. It has made me think that I should give the Tiger 660 a go as well, which I know is at the other end of the spectrum again. SO....much like me, I think Ben needs the VFR800X

Simon was so, so close to opting for a VFR1200, but opted for the 800 at the last minute! There's a lot of great suggestions in the comments section but did you watch to the end to find out what he ended up buying? Cheers, Michael

@@bennettsbikesocial I did indeed, I was surprised by the choice in the end, I think Ben might love up to his expectations and chop it in after 6 months. I absolutely relate to his struggle. I've got to say that the bike that's baffled me the most by the fact that I like it....was the NC750X DCT. It ticks none of the boxes in isolation but some how it collectively ticks them all. I have a sneaky suspicion that I rode Mossy's long term press bike as it had an upgraded rear shock, which I saw him mentioning in a video he did with Knox... uncanny. I also thought the VFR800F in this video was my old one, the reg was really similar, but not quite the same.

Seems like odd requirements and choices to me. If you want a pure commuter bike, you want a bike that is a) comfortable, b) economical and c) easy to ride. So do you need 100+HP? No, not really. Does it need to be sporty? No. etc etc. So for pure commuting, something like the Honda NC750 is ideal. Borning, but 80+ MPG, long wheel base and easy to ride, comfortable as well and good on the motorway and city filtering. And you get the 'frunk' for either your helmet or sandwiches etc.
