Remarkable how quickly the drone systems are advancing and integrating with all other systems and that A.I. is already having an impact on the methodology and workings of the Army.

I was half-expecting by this point that the military would have a patrol/forward-operating base surrounded with 360 degree rotating cameras, with a person in the Ops room of the base using a Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality headset to take control of each camera when it detects something and be able to view as if they were right there at each area of the base, and if they moved their head left or right or up and down the camera would then move too, via a head tracking, allowing for unparalleled control and awareness of all places around the base. Comparatively we're using remote controlled quadro copters that I had access to as a kid, albeit with a better camera and longer range

There was something like this in Afghanistan. I've forgotten the name but it was a very good camera on a mast that had way better optics than a drone, could work 24/7 abd could be fitted with a shot direction sensor too. I was working on one coupled with a radar as well that would cover a few kms and once it found a target could slew a camera to it,setting off an alarm.

Having the tether option is a really good option to have . It might be good to have that as well for vehicle launched UAVs as well for when they are not moving, or moving in the open.

But if the the tether line is long enough they won't know exactly were here is or even if it is tethered or flying on its own.@@monk3synuts

There were fiber optic guided missiles in 80’s apparently making them more stealthy then a missile that required a data link. If you use this same principle for a drone wouldn’t mean it would be jamming resistant also?

Does it have thermal imaging? I wonder if toroidal propellers could be an advantage due to their reduced noise? They don't fold down though so probably not.

As a professional public speaker, it always make me sad to listen to someone else spout meaningless catchphrases consecutively like this fellow did. He could have said much more, and more on point, with much less.

Running to catch up I see - there's nothing there that isn't already in the diy hobbyists cupboard - in fact they're missing some of our more advanced development's at this point... and in trials - well lets just say "Giggling Box" . This is NOT a critique of our forces so much as the appalling lack of funding for development from on high.

In the Ukraine they are using very cheap and very effective DJI Mini 2 drones, highly portable and can be carried with loads of batteries in a small bag..they are expendable. So the MOD goes for a highly expensive, non portable drone which if shot down will lose a major asset. I bet you could buy hundred of small DJI Drones for the price of this thing.

Does the DJI Mini 2 drone last longer in the field? Does the DJI Mini 2 drone have a better camera as this? Does the DJI Mini 2 drone have a better range than this? Are you just being a negative Nellie?

DJI is a Chinese company, there could be significant security concerns for using off-the-shelf commercial drones in a modern western army like that of Britain. These drones are not purpose built for war, but the ones that will be are paving the way for cheaper, more effective smaller warfighting drones in the future. These drones might be expensive but over time they will get cheaper. For example, look at the Australian SYPAQ cardboard drones which cost $3500 each and can carry a 5kg payload capable of destroying on the ground equipment and aircraft. Domestically produced drones are picking up due to the need and the effectiveness that has been seen in the Ukraine war, where larger Reaper and Predator drones risk being shot down by increasingly sophisticated anti-air weapons seen in the hands more frequently in even the lowest equipped armies and insurgents around the world. Lowering the size and costs of these drones is crucial and has to start somewhere.

Tec should be as an aid its not the holy grail as unfortunately the Israelis found out at there border with Gaza which was probably the most advanced system in the world complete with automated weapon's systems .With only 72000 soldiers i doubt we could recapture the Isle of Wight if it was invaded .Cant beat a highly trained and motivated combat soldier to be credible force we need another 72000 soldiers

It's almost laughable, yet again they are only showing us their dated tech. The "real" stuff is under wraps.
