This is a great video lots of good info. One good thing I found you can use to replace or help with stopping alcohol or smoking is. After stopping take up a sport. Maybe running or a gym workout. This helps to reinforce I will not be able to do my new much loved activity if I start drinking again. I also found dry January’s can lead to looking forward to 1st February and a heavy drinking session. A question I get asked a lot is why don’t you drink? My answer is I don’t like it.

I don't understand what people mean with "euphoria" from alcohol. Alcohol has a range of positive effects, which then lead to different behavior, which leads to euphoria. But when I just sit in place drinking and doing nothing, that doesn't cause euphoria. So an alcohol alternative should cause the same behavioral changes as alcohol.
@ThisNakedMind Жыл бұрын
The difference is that we often assign the good feelings from the experiences to the alcohol we're drinking while doing them.

This is good. What are you going to give up for that 20 minutes! Ha! I felt like a beer today. It was sunny. There were people out in the street. But seriously. One would lead to another. I'd feel sick in no time. Groggy. Tired. And I have stuff to do tomorrow! I need to be on form. I went to get a sandwich, sit by the river. The feeling was gone in no time. And it's the evening now. I am off to bed with a good book and then I've got all my stuff to do tomorrow. I will wake up. My head will be clear. I sacrificed those twenty minutes for two days. I am winning!

Hi there. About half way through the video I scrolled down with this urge to type a comment... I wanted to say I have been completed stone cold sober for just over 5 years, and yet I STILL miss only the relaxing and happy (or euphoria) when socialising with my friends or just being on my own. We have a fishing trip coming up at the ocean in two weeks and I STILL am fearful of going because I know I'll miss the couple of drinks around the bonfire on the beach relaxing and enjoying the time together with friends. BUT then I heard you talking further about the choices and how the brain works and how your brain actually tries to fight the alchocol to maintain balance. At the end of the video I changed my mind about what I wanted to say because I realised how true and spot on your words were, well for me at least. I guess alcohol will always be there and I will always miss some part of it. but I will never let it be my boss again. once drink is too many. So I'm going to sit by that bonfire with my feet in the sand on the beach and just feel awesome about being clean and part of nature. At least I'll still feel great the next day
@ThisNakedMind Жыл бұрын
You will and it's okay to miss something about it as long as you realize that there really isn't a benefit. You're not missing out, you're just experiencing it differently.

@@ThisNakedMind There's a ton of benefits. That's why I'm looking for alternatives. The advantages of alcohol are that it gets you into a particularly adventerous kind of high, that it lasts for a long time, is quite cheap and it allows you to sleep pretty soon after. Cocaine, MDMA, amphetamines, etc all don't quite fit.
@heiltecn9ne Жыл бұрын
@MrCmon113 ehh a lot of that isn’t even true and using the term benefit with alcohol is almost assured to be wrong. Many people are sleepless after alcohol consumption. Not one person wakes up the next day proud of alcohol consumption.

You are so right the anticipation and euphoria of cracking open a can of beer is the best bit. I only realised that after you pointed it out. I drink 0.0 Guinness and other NA drinks and the relaxation I feel as I pour the can is the best... I haven't had alcohol for 358 days and I was starting to waver at the year mark approaches. but from past experience alcohol does not magically taste nicer than NA beer, it's all an illusion. Thank you for helping me from bonnie Scotland x

All good information: but you provide NO SOLUTIONS/SUBSTITUTIONS at all. The Title is: "What can I substitute for alcohol to feel good?" What are these things? For instance: Kava, weed, tea, or something else? I listened to you talk and waited for the solution, but did not hear any.
@ThisNakedMind2 жыл бұрын
The information is the answer. We shouldn't be looking for things outside of ourselves in order to feel good. It should be coming from within.

I hear you, and that is true, but to an alcoholic quickly looking for an answer: this video is a complete waste of time.

I agree 💯 percent. This is useful in changing perspective on drinking but has no substitutes like nootropics or adaptogens or even tasty non-alcoholic beverages. I’d thumbs down this video for the misleading title but I think the perspective on drinking is worth it to those who haven’t already heard it before and encouraging sobriety is a positive thing.
