The information is 99% correct given by Faizal Warriach. The only thing which is incorrect as mentioned by Faizal Warriach was that the then PM Narasimha Rao Congress Govt had informed the Leader of Opposition of BJP - Shri Atal Bihari Vajpai and as per both agreed consultaion , the process and decision to keep gold reserve as loan was finalised . Shri Atal Bhihari Vajpai had supported the Congress Govt in the interest of the country and he has openly supported the Govt in Parliament and even mentioned it in one of his major speech in Parliament and the people of India was informed about the decision made by Govt and the opposition leader through the parliament debate . The then Fimance Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had great respect within the Leader of Opposition of BJP leader Mr Atal Bihari Vajpai and the ruling Congress Govt PM Narasimha Rao . PM Narasimha Rao had given free hand to his finance minister Dr Manmohan Singh to take steps to improve the economy and stood by all his decisions and the opposition leader Mr Atal Bihari Vajpai also supported all his decisions in the interest of the country . Within 2 years the economy was back on track and the gold kept as loan was taken back by the Govt and double the quantity of gold was purchased to keep it as Gold reserves . Point to be noted here is - The Govt and the Opposition Party both worked together by trusting each other to improve the economy of the country . This incidence was mentioned in the Biography book written by both Narasimha Rao and Atal Bihari Vajpai and has beautifully explained how they worked together for the country with then finance Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to improve the economy .
