This video was awesome for explaining the intricacies and tangled skills of the Coding subtest. Thanks for all you do!

How many lines of accurate completion would indicate normal/expected/average ability in the area of coding?

So if a child's coding score on the WISC is much lower than the scores on all his other subtests, what's the next step? How can we zero in on the cause of the low score? So for reference, my son scored 15-16 on 6 subtests, 12-13 on 3, and 7 on coding. That was a red flag for me but not sure what to do next.

HI, You need a test of Visual Motor Integration (Beery VMI is a great one, but make sure they actually use a ruler and protractor to measure angles, lengths, etc.) and then you need a measure of written language. If the written language score and the VMI are lower than expected given their Full Scale IQ or GAI (and the GAI should be calculated given their low Coding score), then your child might have dysgraphia. They can then work with someone on written expression (ideally a Speech Language Pathologist who works with learning disabilities) or someone trained in Structured Literacy and who can apply those concepts to written expression.
