If you tap the bottom of the bottle of the metallic ink on the table before you put the lid on, it should help keep it from clogging (not too hard mind you). It helps keep the mica from collecting in the nozzle. You are fearless in your experimenting which I think is great encouragement for anyone who is hesitant to try gel printing. Once you get over being intimated, gel printing is great fun even if a few may not turn out to your liking. It's only paper after all. I've got loads and loads of glossy photo paper from when my children were young and we printed so many photos; however, I don't have loads of space to store my new backgrounds! Thanks for another great start to my morning.

As always I love watching your videos. I couldn’t help but shout out no at a couple of points when you used the white paint and took a print and then cleaned the plate! The best print was the one left on the plate. 😮I am addicted to the gelli plate it’s so fascinating and as you say there is no wrong thing to do. I think you might have more success with less paint, just a dot. Also the soft roller brayer makes a world of difference with these techniques. I pull a lovely print and then can never remember how I did it 😂 Love the hand sanitiser idea, I must try that. Thank you . Happy creating

I do have another brayer which is probably softer, but I can never put just a small amount of paint on the plate, bit heavy handed I’m afraid! It’s fun whatever, I guess you can go on pulling prints for a long time. You have to stop sometime! 😊

I just want to comment along as I watch, like I'm having a little conversation with you!😂 I like your comment near the beginning about doing "stuff and things;" that's all I ever do with my gel plate. I'd onto know enough to do much else. However I DO know that when you use pain to lift what's left on the plate, less is more. I think that's why the print you took on the photo paper was so nice...you'd taken off all the excess paint with the first piece of paper. I learned (the hard way) that if you're getting those squiggles when you use your brayer, then you probably have too much paint on your plate. Thanks for all the ideas!
@Chrissieannie Жыл бұрын

Another video having great fun! I'm definitely a beginner in using the gel plate with alcohol inks, but I in my limited experience, I've found it best to use alcohol (or hand sanitizer) to spread and merge some of the ink, then let it dry (with or without a stencil). Once dry, use a very small amount of white paint to pull the image (one small squirt - when you brayer the paint, it should be thin enough to see the alcohol ink beneath it). The paint really just acts as a very thin "glue" to allow you to pull the ink pattern up. Hope this helps! Enjoyed the video and would love to see the Pinterest board! 💕

Thanks, I actually had seen all this previously but I’m often a trifle heavy handed with anything I try to put on the plate, I always end up with too much! It’s really interesting to see what you end up with when things don’t go as they should! 🤣🤣🙁
@JH-wd7ul Жыл бұрын
@@Chrissieannie Yes, I definitely need more practice because I go to heavy on the alcohol ink! And you're correct, it's all part of the fun to experiment! I don't have metallic ink, but I do have a white pearl acrylic paint. My next experiment will be using the pearl paint instead of white to pull the ink. Hopefully, it will give a slight shimmer background to the ink. 🤞

@@Chrissieannie I have to apologize, it was not the pamphlet for Gelli plates that said not to use glossy paper. I have a set of 3 gel plates from Ranger and that's where I read not to use glossy paper. Following you from Brooklyn, NYC and just loving your videos! I am wondering if the chemical additive in the hand-sanitizer may be keeping the alcohol ink or metallic in them from being as vibrant as could be. It would be interesting to see if there is any difference when using a blending solution with different paper stocks (as they too have chemicals pressed into their fibers to smooth and brighten their surfaces). Strange you went with alcohol inks rather than waterbased inks. I've not seen alc inks used on a Gelli plate before.

When I tried alcohol ink on my gelli mat it just soaked into my mat. So I’ve never used them again!

I’ve not known ink to soak into a gelli plate, they can get stained with alcohol ink though!

They are lovely Christine! I do feel that a lot of people who have looked into colour theory, get a phobia of neutral colours, so sometimes I think it's best not to follow the rules, browns and greys give depth. Yours are full of depth. Still laid up, can't wait to get back to my experimenting, thanks for keeping me occupied and motivated! ❤❤❤

Take care with photographic papers - they are bad playmates with a Gell plate and I understand can stick like …. Don’t want you to ruin your Gell plate before showing us more!
