Should I purchase the deep cut blade or kraft blade to cut heavy chipboard using the cameo 5? Thank you
@silhouettesuccess10 ай бұрын
The kraft blade is recommended for chipboard, but depending on the thickness and density, you might be able to use the deep cut. If it's under 1mm, I'd try the autoblade first.

It showed auto blade detected for that chip board.. is that the blade that comes with it? To be clear, what blade would i need for the chip board and what is the thickest material the cameo can cut and what blade needed for that? Thanks in advance
@silhouettesuccess28 күн бұрын
If you are cutting thin chipboard, the autoblade can handle it. If it is thick chipboard, then you'll need to move to the Kraft blade. There is a 2mm and a 3mm size for the Kraft blade, and you'll need to know the thickness of your material to decide which one you need. The 3 mm can cut thinner material up to 3mm. The 2 mm can cut up to 2 mm. I feel like I'm rambling... sorry. More coffee is needed. LOL The Silhouette machines can cut up to 3mm. That is the absolute thickest it will cut. The autoblade goes up to 1 mm, you can get a manual blade that cuts up to 2mm, the Kraft blade is the only one that will cut 3mm.

@@silhouettesuccess good to know. I’ve seen etching videos on machines as far back as the Cameo 2 and Cameo 3. And they say that the Cameo 5 is 20% more powerful (or something like that). So it should be doable. I was concerned about voiding the warranty if it’s not allowed, but it should be fine. Thanks for the videos.

@ForOrchestra oh, so I'm still half asleep, apparently. The Cameo is not meant to engrave. The Curio is. I didn't look to see which video you were referencing. So sorry. The new engraving tool is only for use with the curio. The cameo can use the embossing tool, but I haven't ordered that one yet.

Would the silhouette 5 be able to cut velboa/cuddle fabric? I’m awful with scissors, so having my cameo do instead it would be a real blessing.
@silhouettesuccess11 ай бұрын
Possibly, but you would definitely need the rotary blade and a strong grip mat. Keep in mind that you will get hooks and loops with the rotary blade. They look like a mess on the send screen, but they don't interfere with the cut elements. I have successfully cut felt, so the thickness should not be an issue. The only concern is that the cuddle fabric is not as stiff and may move around a bit.

@silhouettesuccess Жыл бұрын
With the Kraft blades, you have to adjust them manually. Tighten the cap and check the depth against the side of the material. Once it looks deep enough, give it a try. Check the cut before you unload the mat. If it did not cut through, increase the force and try another pass.

@silhouettesuccess11 ай бұрын
The kraft blade and the rotary blade do not turn in the housing like the autoblade does, so it has to go outside of the design and make its turn, then come back to move on to the next cut. It looks like a mess on the send screen, but I've never had it interfere with the actual design elements.

I came over from cricut because of their software. The cameo 5 is quite a bit quieter than the 4. Demonstrating that on film isn't easy - mostly because I know more about silhouette than I know about producing videos. Lol. Are the problems with your 4 consistent, or just every now and then?

I haven't tried veneer, but I think Silhouette sells some in their specialty materials, so it should work. The hooks and loops are a pain, and I honestly try to avoid them. As long as you check the send page carefully, it usually works out ok, without the extra cuts interfering with the actual design.

Until silhouette get to a blade that can cut real Leather, then not worth the money, we are on cameo 5 and they still not got to grips with it😳
@silhouettesuccess Жыл бұрын
I think the issue was more in the consistency of the leather. Some areas seemed much denser than others. I think it would have eventually cut through, but I personally was out of patience. Anyway, it almost seemed like a force issue. And if that's the case, then it's going to take a commercial machine. That was my first time cutting genuine leather, so I'm definitely not an expert in that area.
