How to know what to plant what/when/where! Check out my Skillshare course Woodworking for Beginners and get started with a small, affordable toolkit! The first 1,000 people to use this link will get a 1 month free trial of Skillshare: skl.sh/anneofalltrades05211
If you’re like me and summer got away from you, you may find yourself wondering if it’s too late to plant a garden! Fear not! Unless you’re less than five weeks out from getting snow, there’s still time to get some seeds in the ground and harvest some crops before winter!
Though I would love to be the type of gardener that has a perfect garden plan, meticulously plotted out week by week, what I’m going to plant, when and where this isn’t the reality!
For more information and a complete list of what to plant in mid-summer, check out my blog post here: www.anneofalltrades.com/blog/...

I'm Anne of All Trades. In NASHVILLE, I have a woodworking, blacksmithing and fabrication shop, a selection of furry friends, and an organic farm. Whether you've got the knowledge, tools, time or space to do the things you've always wanted to do, everything is "figureoutable." I became "Anne of All Trades" out of necessity. With no background in farming or making things, I wanted to learn to raise my own food, fix things when they break, and build the things I need. 8 years ago I got my first pet, planted my first seed and picked up my first tool. Get a better roadmap of how to grow deep roots and live the life you want subscribing to this channel and look for NEW VIDEOS EVERY WEEK!
My goal is to learn and share traditional techniques and skills while showing my peers how to get from where they are to where they want to go, how to do the things they are passionate about, and what can be done TODAY to engage their own community and grow deep roots. Whether it's carving spoons, making my own hand tools, restoring my antique truck or growing heirloom tomatoes, the farm and workshop definitely keep me busy and support- whether financially through Patreon, through shopping my affiliate links, through buying merchandise, plans or project videos, or even just liking, commenting, and sharing my content with others helps me GREATLY to keep producing quality content to share.

@@donaldgross5709 A greenhouse is definitely on the project list, there's just a lot of things ahead of it. Moving and re-establishing a farm while also building a school and working full time has been much more of a triage-like situation than I initially expected it would be, but in retrospect, I don't really know why I expected anything to be different either haha :)

Yep! Glad to see you Anne, I’m glad you did this vid. as I’m a beginner gardener and my garden didn’t do very well this year, but you’re saying maybe I have time for a few do overs here in Southern California. I used grow bags and bagged organic soil, I’ve been hearing that’s not a great combo. I need more real earth dirt mixed in. And the concrete is making to much heat for my vegetables. I hope to move to the country in the way Northern California coast within the year.

Which “stuff” exactly? Sweeping statements like that can be very discouraging to inexperienced gardeners. Last year I planted a lot of these same things in august just as an experiment and didn’t have a single plant not give at least a few harvestable items.

U can make that gardening journal more useful w/scissors & tape: cut those seed packet backs down to the useful info only & tape those onto journal pages. U can get several to a page by tapping only one edge & overlapping like fish scales. If U later want notes to go with one seed type (or when is probably a better description): cut the tape, tape the seed info to a new page & add Ur notes

Yep you can totally re-root your tomato clippings if you’d like. A trick is to put the stems in water for a few days prior to replanting to give them a head start creating new roots.

8:20 wtf what about just keep the soil moist for a week or 2 and plant it normally never seen something like this kinda disturbing lol
@AnneofAllTrades
@AnneofAllTrades 2 жыл бұрын
Transplanting anything is going to send it into shock for several weeks. By removing the lower leaves and planting deeper, you’re giving your tomato plant a several WEEK head start on establishing it’s root system. Not to mention that this practice will encourage a far thicker main stem that will be able to support the weight of the fruit later on. This will also significantly reduce the need to water. I don’t want the daily chore of watering my garden when I can make it more capable of taking care of itself. 🤷🏻‍♀️
@lands3r
@lands3r 2 жыл бұрын
@@AnneofAllTrades wel i don't want to argue about watering a watering system is not that expensive but that's not what interested me :) but how does that give a head start since it needs to produce the root hormones as wel to produce new roots that takes like 1-2 weeks even do it could get a thicker stem dont you still need to support it? the only benefit i can personally see here is that the deeper you go the more moiste the soil will stay and therefore don't have to water it in this case
@AnneofAllTrades
@AnneofAllTrades 2 жыл бұрын
Watering systems may not be super expensive, but even that is a relative term, even if you can afford it, that also assumes not only that you have access to affordable water and don’t mind using more than would be necessary if you could set your garden up to need less water from the outset, but also that you have the time to set one up and monitor it. One method is not necessarily better than the other, but having understanding about all the options available for different situations is important.
@lands3r
@lands3r 2 жыл бұрын
@@AnneofAllTrades i can agree with this :) but you have timers you can set on your water source and tell it when to water and for how long :D it indeed depends on what you want and i would only use the watering system if it would be very hot,dry or just planted the plants to let them have the root system so search for water themself
