It's refreshing and encouraging to finally hear a Roman Catholic speak with conviction about the authority of Scripture and that it comes from God. I hope this message spreads through the Roman Catholic church like a wildfire. Every word of Scripture is breathed out from the mouth of God, let it be a lamp to our feet. 2 Timothy 3:16-17: "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work" Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”

St Augustin, St Thomas & the other holy fathers of the Church weren't just philosophers, they were Bible commentators. They explained the secrets of God's Word to the people of their times.

Yet any decent Bible scholar will point out to you that some bits were added later, some of Pauls letters were not written by Paul and christians cannot agree as to what books should be in it and which should not.

@@kevinkelly2162 So what? My point is that the great theologians of the Church weren't just philosophers. Catholics tend to study everything around the Bible and forget the Scriptures.
@jgr74874 күн бұрын
@@nickjohnson1424 The part about bits isn't false. Go to the end of the Gospel according to St Mark and you'll see its end in square brackets. If you read a good translation of the Bible, you'll find many parts [in between brackets], signaling that that part wasn't found in most older & authentic copies. They don't go against the meaning nor the themes of the original text that surrounds them, but they may not be Word of God.

The scriptures are important to us. St. Jerome said, “Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.” St. John Chrysostom said: “To become adult Christians you must learn familiarity with the Scriptures.” And Pope John Paul II said: “By giving the Bible to men and women you are giving Christ himself.”
@timrichardson40185 күн бұрын
I heard it said that the scriptures are positively infallible where the magisterium is negatively infallible, meaning that the scriptures say positively what God intended them to say. Ergo, God is their primary author. The magisterium is infallible in the sense that God will prevent it from teaching falsehood, but does not necessarily inspire it's chosen words. Therefore, it won't be wrong in it's official teachings, but may be incomplete or not worded the best way, etc.

“I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I ever again destroy every living creature as I have done. While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.” (Genesis 8:21-22.) God knows us and yet is willing to engage with us until the time when all creation will be judged and renewed. Yet, we must know God through what he does for us, with us and through us. this promise of God is after the sacrifice offered by Noah when the flood had ended and God then promised to bless Noah and His sons if they would be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. Being fruitful means imitating God by pouring ourselves out for the good of others.

Yeah! Folow the Scripture: 1 Tim 3, 2-3 a bishop must be above reproach, married only once (gk. the husband of one wife), temperate, sensible, respectable, hospitable, an apt teacher, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, and not a lover of money.

All Christians need to remember this. It's not a denominational issue. The entire church is at risk because of "deconstruction". So that even christian colleges and institutions now treat the Bible as if it's just our opinion. But God has put it on my heart for a long time to remind everyone that we need to treat the Bible not just like it's our opinion, we need to go into the world, treating it as the whole truth and the only truth! Because if we as Christians aren't calling it the truth, then who will?
@ServusDei745 күн бұрын
Unification. There is no “denomination” but the One Holy Apostolic Church. Jesus said it best, “And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.” How strong would a UNITED, GLOBAL Catholic Church be against the evil that comes against it? We need unity, and reconciliation!!!

Kissing the Q’uran is indicative of the Vicar of Christ?
@napoleonfeanor5 күн бұрын
Yes but the question about interpretation is important. If you go complete literalist, we get nonsense like Young Earth Creationism instead of (theistic) evolution. I just use it as example that things aren't all clear. Denying evolution just means people are ignorant about creation and doesn't influence our Salvation through Christ. My main point is that just reading the Bible without guidance through the Church can easily lead to misunderstandings that lead to the Protestant landscape of the USA, an endless fragmentation. The guest probably wouldn't reject this but in the clip, it may appear that way.
@slanz13 күн бұрын
Oh wow. It's almost like Jesus knew the mind of man and established a Church with a head to help to form the understanding of the faithful, that as the doctrines are understood and practiced, they could live on as the repository of information and knowledge of Him for eternity. Or, maybe the Protestants have it right, just go out on your own, you should be fine.

SOLA SCRIPTURA is "scripture ALONE". That is NOT a teaching of Christ's Church. We always need both Scripture AND Tradition!

Catholics believe in Prima Scriptura.
@nickjohnson14245 күн бұрын
So you take sola scripture as having to read the Bible lol.
@mattb42495 күн бұрын
@mottledbrain Sola scriptura is holding the inspired scripture as the only infallible source from the Lord. If a tradition is not found in the inspired scripture it is considered a creation of man, not the Lord. As a Roman Church goer, you have to reject this because you must absolutely believe a man or group of men have infallibly determined that they can make infallible declarations that must be believed regardless of what the Word says.
@Hafstrom18455 күн бұрын
@@mattb4249, I thought the Roman Catholic point of view is that tradition can never contradict scripture.
