In this video I show you the cause of DTC P0016 Crankshaft Camshaft Correlation code. You may be tempted to replace the camshaft or crankshaft position sensors, but check the timing first.

Pete I wish I would’ve found this several $ ago. Swap sensors: MAP, temperature, oil pressure switch, also the one by the starter. Plus swapped throttle body, spark plugs, wires and coils. When she runs she runs pretty normal. Then every now and then, she’ll go into reduced engine power and eventually doesn’t start

Hey Pete this is Tony I've been a technician for over 40 some-odd years I tore down my first 53 this week because I had p0016 code in it I looked it up and it said that it jumped a tooth in and I tear down and it's in time but first it though the code for the cam sensor and you're right I like to never got that damn cancer throughout of there so now I tore it down I'm a little aggravated because she's in time.

Does yours have vvt or not? The one I did in the video did not have vvt so there was no way the p0016 would set unless it was out of time. If you have vvt then the actuator may be sticking or something wrong with the solenoid, bolt, or oil pressure.

Currently having the same problem its an intermittent crank no start with p0016 and am pulling my hair out because when it runs it runs perfect timing is fine
@PetesGarageandperformance Жыл бұрын
Is that the only code?
@ericabertagnoli54699 ай бұрын
I have this code in my 14 Malibu but it drives perfectly fine and light comes on intermittently so I’m guessing it’s one of the sensors.

Yeah ive got an 08 Yukon throwing the cam position code. And the running lean code. Im sure its that timing chain. $900 labor im ready for. More than $1200 just for labor will hurt. Lol. Thanks for the info

Yep. Nothing seems to be affordable anymore unless you do it yourself.

How to did you get it back into time? My 08 is exactly the same as this. How do you get the dots to line back up and make it back in time? Thx

We have this code but she runs and drives fine expect the occasional press on the gas and there is like a slight loss of acceleration but it seems like water in the gas. Or is it the timing?
@PetesGarageandperformance Жыл бұрын
If it has a p0016 code, it’s the timing.
@natenovak5208 Жыл бұрын
Pete, just found this issue on my 08 suburban. Do you just rotate the crank clockwise back into alignment with the cam? I just don't want to cause any valve damage by rotating the wrong way.
@PetesGarageandperformance Жыл бұрын
I would put the crank at TDC before removing the timing chain. Then you’ll only need to rotate the cam a couple teeth to get it right. But be careful because you’ll be fighting the valve springs.
@natenovak5208 Жыл бұрын
@@PetesGarageandperformance shoot, I did the opposite before even thinking about the interference engine thing. I rotated the engine so the cam mark was at the 6 o'clock position then removed the chain and rotated the crank mark to the 12 o'clock position.

P0016 bank a1 that timing chain belt right? Because I have problem when misfire right?
@jacobmherrmann7 ай бұрын
Hey Pete, could this timing code throw the P0106 code as well? I currently am working with codes P0016 & P0106.
@PetesGarageandperformance7 ай бұрын
It might because p0106 is a MAP sensor performance code. Because of the jumped timing the engine’s vacuum is out of the expected range.

Is it necessary to halve to replace the oil pump or also take it off to do the chain?
@PetesGarageandperformance11 ай бұрын
Yes, you have to remove the oil pump to replace the chain. Which also means dropping the oil pan.
