The reason the Oilers lost is the same as why they lost the first 3 and won the last 3. It was the 3rd and 4th lines that stepped up and showed that they can score too. Why did Knobloch change the lineup and reduce the ice time for the only lines that were scoring? If you make the top lines play too much, it makes them tired and useless. It also makes the bottom 2 lines feel useless. This is a team sport, and it takes the whole team to make a winning combination.

Skinner let in that soft sharp angled goal. Edmonton's D-men were lost in space on that play. Backing up nearly to their own goal line. Edmonton's coach kept mindlessly playing Draisaitl and McDavid together when that clearly wasn't working. Florida did the right thing. They finished every check and they crashed the boards. Made it an ugly game. That's their strength and it's Edmonton's weakness.
@robr1774 ай бұрын
This is the best summary of this game. Better than these guys. Kulak could have prevented that goal by attacking Reinhart, since the other D-man had the pass covered. He should have forced Reinhart to the outside and got his stick in the way, like Florida was doing all game. And the other goal, which was a great deflection, might have been prevented if Bouchard had taken his man instead of coasting away from the net like that. If those things had happened, it might have been a 1-0 win for Edmonton. Because they were not going to score a second goal, regardless.

Oilers were not as close to winning as some might think! Skinner? He may still be young, but his overall game is still too inconsistent. I don't care how good he may be from Games 4-7. As a goalie, you have to be ready from the start of Game 1! Skinner needs to have a more consistent game throughout a series. Button is dead wrong, as there are a lot of goalies I would rather have in net than Skinner! Continuing on, the Oilers pure team defense is not good enough. Their concept of a team defense is more along the lines of having a strong offensive attack with great possession of the puck. Their 6-man d-group is average at best. If they want to improve on that, they need to get rid of Nurses contract! $5 million per year of Nurse's contract could be allocated alone to other skilled position players of need. Too much emphasis on the Oilers dominating games with their PP, as they regularly don't win a lot games without it scoring some goals. Playoff history has shown for the majority of teams, once you reach the Cup Final and lose, it becomes even harder to get back there soon enough.

I'm going to say something that runs a different story to the one TSN has run for the last 3 games (4, 5, & 6). The Oilers felt pressure in game 2. You just played your best and didn't win. They folded under that pressure, Florida had their best game, and beat the Oilers soundly. Down big in Game 4, they played the real desperate hockey a team needs in June and they won. But from Game 3 through Game 6, every single game was an Oilers team free to play their game, unafraid, with the mentality they have nothing to lose. The mentality portrayed by TSN and other Canadian networks was "the Oilers are under incredible pressure to win". Based on.. what? That one of their players is having an historic playoffs? That a guy like Hyman had a career year? Or that Skinner wasn't their starter or anywhere near it when the season started and carved that role for himself? Based on the weight of their home country. Based on a misplaced nationalism and the "hopes of a nation". By the way, I'm Canadian, and the Oilers would be the 5th Canadian team I'd ever pull for. And man, would that other team in the Final have to be Toronto or Montreal 😂 The Oilers, for 3 games, actually felt ZERO pressure. They had to win, but history wasn't on their side, meaning they actually had nothing to lose. There's no tomorrow if you don't show up, so they showed up. For Florida? Zero actual pressure for 3 straight games. You WANT to win, but there is something to lose, meaning you have another chance. You lose that desperation, not because you feel pressure. It's because you DON'T. The team loses their edge. The other team threw their best at you, and you won. They didn't even score a goal. In game 7, Edmonton feels something they hadn't felt since game 1. The actual, tangible weight of the Final. The knowledge that there literally is no tomorrow. You win. You win TODAY. Or you don't win at all. And in game 7, with home ice and literally nothing to lose, the Panthers win. Because, and this is important, the Panthers responded to the pressure the same way they did when the Oilers went into game 2. By playing their game, keeping things simple, and believing in their game. And the difference between the Panthers (who win) and the Canucks (who lose) in the same scenario? These Canucks were extremely inexperienced with playoff hockey, with real pressure situations. The Panthers were the furthest thing from inexperienced these playoffs. And for over half of the team, they also experienced the heartbreak of being an offensive powerhouse, the league's best record, and just another first round disappointment. Which helped them beat Boston and Toronto last year. And losing to Vegas helped them beat Edmonton this year. Pressure? Edmonton faced it twice, and twice, they played their worst game and lost. But the pressure on Florida wasn't a season ending pressure until game 7, so I wouldn't say they collapsed either. They just didn't respond to a pressure which wasn't really all that intense, working with such a considerable lead.

Someone who jumps between teams faster than a politician between bullet points on a hot seat. I know the teams I cheer for, but I also follow the storylines amd watch the games of critical teams, especially during playoff runs like this. And the fact is, IF Florida felt pressure, their on ice game didn't reflect that. Weird how, after over 100 games this season, and beating Edmonton 3 in a row, they just "randomly" fall apart. Nothing random about it. For them, games 4-6 WEREN'T must win. They felt an absence of pressure and the Oilers played a free, unencumbered style. But when game 7 actually started, the team that played like their season was on the line, the team that played 60 complete minutes, WASN'T Edmonton.

Game Seven was a solid Under a pace more suited to Panthers style… Had Game Seven went into an Over game Oilers would’ve stood a much better chance at Victory…

Don’t forget Sid Crosby came back in the playoffs to beat the red wings as a really young player! Not to mention he won the gold medal OT winner 🏆!!! Connor mcdavid still has to win a cup to even be discussed in the the greats category!🤷🏻♂️

Zero points in game 6 and 7. When McDavid gets back to the cup finals he won’t let that happen again. The GOATs show up in game 7s.

It was definitely bizarre how the refs swallowed their whistle this game. I remember watching last year. Florida played against Toronto, and the refs were EXTREMELY lenient. Fast forward to the 2023 cup finals against Vegas, and the refs start calling EVERYTHING on Florida. I noticed a complete turnaround and even Paul Maurice looked shocked at the calls. I think one game, Florida got 8 penalties. Now of course, I’m not suggesting this is “why” Florida won the cup this year. They’re a great team. However, one weird thing about hockey is how differently it’s called from game to game. It is also interesting how, for the last 31 years, these coincidentally have never helped Canadian teams when it has mattered most. Since Bettman’s appointment, Anaheim, Florida, Carolina, Tampa Bay (3x), Dallas, La Kings (2x), and Las Vegas have won the Stanley cup while no Canadian team has won in 31 years. I’m sorry, but that is beyond a statistical anomaly-it’s borderline mathematically impossible.

The Panthers SYSTEM was ready for Edmonton and it scorched the Oilers, the Oilers Coaches huddled up and formulated a response then adjusted their own SYSTEM and scorched Florida, then in approximately the same time limit and with the same resources the Panthers huddled together and formulated a SUPERIOR SYSTEM plan to use to turn the entire Series and to win Game 7....Panthers got the last and Superior adjustment in. Had edmonton been given more time they would have responded and adjusted again and so on and so forth. Make no mistake it was a SUPERIOR SYSTEM Managed by an Experienced Coach that won the Stanley Cup. Mumford was a Trojan Horse and all the Oilers vim and vigor had been drained away by his BS spin doctoring

Gretzky and Lemieux never had to comeback from being down 3-0 because they were actually GOATs and wouldn’t have been in that position. If McDavid is in “another universe”, why has he lost two scoring races in his prime to Kuch? Would Gretz and Lemieux be held scoreless in the final two games of a seven game elimination series?
@mysticone17984 ай бұрын
McDavid is no Gretsky. He's a magical skater, but his goal scoring skills don't quite match up.
@BillySeiling4 ай бұрын
@@mysticone1798 I agree. People confuse fast skating with being in the GOAT tier. Without a doubt he’s one of the best players in the league but he just finished third in scoring and lost his second scoring title to Kucherov in his prime. Does anyone want to make the case that Edmonton has a worse roster than Tampa Bay? McDavid’s deepest team ever and he was a ghost in game 6 and 7 after getting a bunch of blowout points in games 4 and 5.
@geordiejones56184 ай бұрын
Don't start sounding like Jordan dickriders. Gretzky was swept in 80, 89 and 93. You saying it's better to get killed early in the playoffs than to lose in the last round? He had an amazing run in the mid and late 80s but he was just as beatable as any other player otherwise.

It’s really amazing when Florida was up 3-0 they then played like an AHL team they didn’t check they gave the Oilers a crazy amount of free ice absolutely not their style it’s almost like the NHL wanted a 7 game final. Then magically it now was game 7 and guess what the Panthers are back to playing like the Panthers smothering and shutting the Oilers down. I don’t know maybe I’m wrong but something to me smells a bit fishy.

Pulling the goalie without control of the puck with 2 cats allowed to take pot shots at an empty net while precious seconds ticked off the clock. The NHL were that frightened of having the weaponary of the Oilers loose in that last minute because they had a good chance of tying it up. What NHL coach worth his salt call that play when the season is on the table ticking away unless he was told to do so.

So sick of the bias on the broadcasts. Craig Simpson should recuse himself from Oilers games. Just like a judge would. I’m from Canada and I don’t need to hear one sided reporting. Not everyone is rooting for the Oilers.
