I am just with my preschoolers and my elementary student, but it is so encouraging to have a glimpse of where we are heading! Just listening gives me such delight - I have grown up with a love of learning myself and am so pleased and blessed to have stumbled upon Charlotte Mason’s method as and your channel (and I literally used to walk past her school in Ambleside on prayer walks, not knowing but curious what it was about in my spirit!)

"Your high school student is writing at least five narrations per week; those narrations can be narrative, expository, descriptive, or persuasive in style. The rest of the narrations for the week are done orally in order to keep giving her opportunities to practice public speaking, and the art of gathering and expressing her thoughts extemporaneously." From what I could understand this is practically speaking from the perspective of a student who is already well set, and knows beforehand from Charlotte Mason; But what about those of us who are not familiar with it[meaning from middle school/high school years] I wonder how can one even start with Charlotte Mason with middle school/high schoolers that are not used to this...I do love this method, I remember using it in pre-k and years ago with elementary school, but it's been so long....

Dear Sonya, for several years now you have been directly involved in the upbringing and education of our children, thank you for your work! Please share your recommendations with us regarding moral education: help around the house, respect for the elders, care for the younger ones. for me it is very important.

You are very welcome! So glad you have found these videos and methods helpful! For these habits, you may want to read into the decency and propriety habits section of "Laying Down the Rails" also explained here: simplycharlottemason.com/blog/habits-of-decency-and-propriety/ Additionally, SCM recommends the books listed here for "personal development" in the upper grades. Even if you have a student that is above grade seven, the recommended book "self-knowledge" is a prequel to "self-direction" and both would be of value to any student transitioning into adulthood and wanting to work on habits and character development. simplycharlottemason.com/planning/curriculum-guide/personal-development/

Thank you for sharing! These overview videos have been super helpful to see the whole picture. I’m afraid we’re starting a little late with CM with my older two and I feel like that love of learning is gone. 😢 it’s our 3rd year homeschooling and I’m not sure what to do to help as they enter 8th grade this fall. Any advice is welcome ❤

Never give up and be in prayer. I would go through as many of these videos as you can as they are such a blessing! I would read the literature to them and let the beauty of it speaak to them. It may take a while, but dont give up. And domt forget they are learning 24/7.....let them choose some of the riches (art, handicrafts, composers, etc) and see where that takes them. Also....my daughter loves nature study and drawing in her nature journal (she just turned 9), she loves handicrafts, but she does not like reading or being read to. My son who will turn 12 next month likes to read and help in the kitchen and likes science, but he doesnt like math. Find what they love and you will find a way for them❤❤

@@mountaincountrytraditions6292❤❤❤ I truly hope that helped some....I get discouraged sometimes too, but SCM has helped more than anything. It's a calling we have from the Lord, and He will see us through it, i don't doubt for a second. I belong to a local homeschool group, and we have an AMAZING evaluator.....she tells me every year....."you can't mess up your kids, you aren't that powerful. Trust in the plan God has for them". She has said so much more, but it has helped me to realize I need to trust in the Lord, and NOT my own strength. ❤❤

Hello, I have a question. We have been using a Charlotte Mason approach / philosophy in our homeschool since the beginning. My question is do family subjects stop when my girls get to highschool? I have two girls they are only 19 months apart and will be graduating the same year. Thank you!
@SimplyCharlotteMason8 ай бұрын
Hi, Thank you for reaching out with your question! Absolutely, there are still subjects that would be completed as a family, all the way through! Simply Charlotte Mason has our lesson plans set up for history/Bible/Geography and enrichment subjects (poetry, music study, etc.) to be completed as a family. There are books for history that you will always read as a family and then books for individual grade levels. Since your children are so close in age and are on track to be graduating the same year, there may be even more that they can do together! You can see more information and links to these resources at the post below under "High School Question #13" simplycharlottemason.com/blog/scheduling-high-schooler-mix/

Where is a curriculum that has all this all scheduled out at this depth and level, kind of an open and go type thing..? I'm thinking for my high school DD who will be going into 11 grade but hasn't used the Charlotte Mason methods every school year you to this point and who is also behind her grade level. She's currently tested at 7-8th grade comprehension level.
