I've worked at a petstore too, but we were actually told to be around the animals. We had a sofa in the store that I sometimes allowed the younger bunnies jump around in. And I constantly opened the degu cages and allowed them to sniff and jump around me because the cages were simply too small and I knew they'd get antsy. The baby budgies my store bred, we were also told to hold them and get them used to us so it'd be easier to the future owners to handle them. So knowing there's a store out there who literally doesnt allow the workers to be around the animals? Really sad D:

What's the REAL difference between Nurofen and the cheaper stuff?" He said "Oh..... The Nurofen has an extra ingredient" and told me what it was called (Can't remember the name of it). I laughed and said "I thought you were going to say they were identical...... So, what does [whatever it was called] do then?", He smiled and replied "It's a very important chemical compound........ Worked at a Godiva, the expensive chocolate place. If you dont have a godiva rewards card, get one. They're free and arent credit cards. All they do is require you to spend $10 once, and for the next 12 months, you can come in and get 1 free piece of chocolate from the case. Doesnt sound too extravagant, but some pieces in the case are close to $4. So spend the $10 dollars on yourself or a gift, and once every month come by for a free piece. A lot of people neglect to do this because they hear "rewards program" and think its a credit card. Also, If you get a monthly free piece, but have used it already, you could get another one if you complain hard enough. Most of the time they want to avoid angry customers so they give out another free The strawberries only last less than 24 hours. So dont buy them unless its the day you plan on eating them soon. Also if its the end of the day and youre nice to the employees, they might let you take a cone of strawberries for free, since they have to be thrown out anyway. But I'd also be cautious of that. If you get some free end of day strawberries, eat them right away, again, they dont last. And most of the time theyve been sitting there since the store opened. So many of them are just "sweating" all day.

They also didn't sell certain alcohols for the same reason. The end result was very few fights and no one being shot. One person did shoot up one time to settle the crowd, which was a bad choice since it was by my dad's ear and there were occupied apartments above the bar. Fortunately no one was hurt. That policy of retail workers being forced to allow shoplifting is actually extremely common as well. I work for a successful retailer, and know a lot of the managers at the other stores in ny mall; almost all of them are required to allow shoplifters to walk because the company would rather avoid the lawsuit of someone being wrongly accused of theft, disgruntled thieves threatening store associates, etc.
@nicholas84765 жыл бұрын
A store I used to work for does this but also sends all the pictures to police who had around a 90% success rate catching people. The difficulty was in establishing precisely what they stole.
@nicholas84765 жыл бұрын
If you’re gonna shoplift, there are a lot easier ways of doing it than physically trying to conceal stuff and run out the door. You take a clearanced coffee maker that started at $1000 and is down to 200, buy it. Return without a receipt for store credit to another store, with the clearance tag removed, and then sell the gift card. You just made $650 bucks in an afternoon. OR Take a $400 shirt and a $70 dollar shirt into the changing room and swap the tags. Now you made your $650 bucks feel like $3600. NOT encouraging this and retailers are starting to put names on gift cards, but return fraud and tag frauds are still rampant. The ones that get caught are the greedy people who do it too often or those who select too noticeable or expensive an item that someone happens to know the price of in their head/know that it should be more expensive. Please also note that swapping a tag is indeed, illegal. Moral: Just don’t steal. Eventually you’ll get caught and it’s just not worth it.

Worked at a hospital for awhile (in research, but most of my co-workers were MDs) and this wasn’t exactly true, at least at this hospital. How it would go: Anesthesiologist was expected to work maybe 8 hours/day, right? And in that 8 hours, he would be scheduled for X number of surgeries. He was paid a (sizable) percentage of the insurance company’s agreed upon fee for the anesthetic service. But if he did more surgeries in a day or worked more than 40 hours a week, he would get, say 1.3x or 1.4x of his base salary. Surgeons had a similar system, except it was more dependent upon number of patients they saw. I used to know a surgeon who could do a total hip replacement in 30 minutes (of actually being in the room). They then have a resident take care of suturing and such while they more on to the next patient.. He made a lot of money... Even as far as surgeons go.

Purple Meme My guess is that there isn’t actually anything wrong happening here. I would think that the total value in toys donated does actually go to a charity. Allowing a customer to “donate” a toy that they can see and touch probably increases donations because it feels more tangible. The reason they don’t actually donate the toys is because it wouldn’t be easy to replace the stock, and they can still actually make money selling it

That is very much not enough when one person is in the back working on managment and 3 need to be in certain areas. Today we only had 4 for about 5 hours and it was hell. The girl at printing was overwhelmed as she was deal with 3 people at a time, the manager had to stop managing to help her, the floor person had to double as tech plus come help me at register if there were more than 3 people in line. Also as register I have to check people out, greet and assist them, place items back out on the floor answer phones and do several closing duties. I cant got to the back of store due to store policy which is where a lot of stuff and duties are, I end up passing it to floor people a lot so we aren't stuck to long after closing. Oh and we have to listen to customers telling us phone and item numbers while also listening to a radio. Literally 2 more people would solve this, maybe even one. But right we had one guy work from opening to closing with one 15 minute break cause no one else trained in using the printer was available and a bunch of us get scheduled just under 6 hours so we cant ask for break. Edit: office depot is now trying to fix the issue of printing being over run by training others on the floor and doing things to use printing..... hire more people God dammit.

Used to work as a retail manager many years ago. Our corporate was extremely pushy when it came to signing customers up for credit cards, furniture leasing loans, and store card signups. @DarkAngelEU4 жыл бұрын
Had a similar experience at a hardware store that is actually pretty famous in my country (GAMMA, Belgium). Apparently it was one of the best ones in the province, but my boss was also very keen on making people use their customer cards, and if they didn't have one then either look them up or make sure they would get one, even if it was very crowded and there were long queues at the register. I sometimes had customers yelling at me for being so stubborn about something so trivial as a card but every time I didn't ask a customer she'd ask me why. Foreign customers were treated badly on purpose, as the store manager only catered to white people. She'd even make remarks when they left. The tools on display, like snow blowers, lawnmowers, etc. would not be sold with a discount when new models arrived but were simply thrown out in containers and registered as damaged upon arrival. Everything had to be done really fast because we were understaffed and because I was the new guy I basically got all the shit thrown at me. Our uniforms weren't fit to wear scanners, yet we were required to have one at all times so after a while I developed bruises on my legs. We had to wear t-shirts, had no working gloves and no masks for the sawing facility, so anyone who had to saw panels would just be breathing sawdust the entire time. I always declined doing this bc I have asthma, my colleagues would make fun of me for that and treated it like an excuse to not do any heavy work, still I would stock beams of wood and even from that I got occasional splinters, cuts and bruises. After a while I complained to her that things were simply not safe and very well thought out and every time she complained I didn't finish anything I just told her she didn't give anyone any time to do it the way she told us to do it, so it was either doing it poorly or just half-assing it. She went on a rage and told me I'm a spoiled brat who doesn't know what hard work means. That even goes without mentioning the one time we had a pigeon flying around inside the store. She gave one of our employees the task to get rid of it immediately and she didn't mean "catch it, put it back outside". No, she just wanted it to get killed and was visibly enjoying the creature getting hurt by random sticks thrown at it rather violently. Luckily one of my colleagues started his shift and was tall enough to reach it with a ladder and just grabbed it and put it outside. I told her she was out of her mind and I would file a complaint with animal services. I also briefed my syndicate about it and all the other stuff I mentioned above. I was fired very briefly after that. Because Belgium is a country with endless bureaucratic loopholes I managed to get out of there with a week of sick leave and an extra month of payment, despite the fact I was supposed to go back and work for another week. Apparently some of my colleagues quit after that. Our spots are still vacant. This happened over a year ago. I'm still smiling. Fuck you, you anal bitch. Fuck you very, very, much.

I used to work for Asurion, an insurance company that insures mostly phones but also other electronics like TV's, laptops, etc. I worked in customer service, but it was live chat support, not phone support. Two secrets: 1. When you get insurance on your phone, they'll tell you the insurance is from your carrier, like AT&T or Verizon. Or in the case of computers/TVs, they'll say it's from Walmart or whatever store where you bought it. It's not. It's from Asurion, a third party company. 2. If you use the live chat for support and the agent is taking a while to respond, it's probably because they're assisting one or two other customers at the same time. Yes, we were expected to carry on a live chat with up to three customers at a time, but we had to pretend we were only chatting with one customer. I made a fatal mistake once. A customer was asking repeatedly why I wasn't responding. First I just said "please wait," but that wasn't enough for the customer, and I wasn't about to lie, so I said, "Please wait while I assist another customer." The next day I got fired. Which in hindsight is a very good thing. That place was so toxic.

TRUE Story: [Short version] - I worked at a food processing facility, an employee had their fingers cut off. The equipment, that did it, was barely sanitized before the order to continue production was given. [Long version, for those interested] I worked at a Food Manufacturing plant. They make Veggie burgers and other vegan friendly foods (chickn strips - all vegetable, no meat, etc.) It was a 24 hour facility, with one 8 hour cleaning crew, all shifts slightly overlap, also. The floor's never completely idle. Things break down constantly. It gets hectic, people get excited when they're shift is almost over and theyre about to go home. There is a machine that pulls the "base product" (basic ingredients mixed together, not flavored yet), and at a certain length, the machine cuts it into a segment. It jammed (because the blade was caught in a pile/build up, of these ingredients - it has a 'play dough' like consistency) and a employee tried to reach in and free it, by removing some of the product. They ONLY turned off the part that pulling more ingredients in, NOT the part that slices it, so as soon as the blade was free ... it sliced down again, severing some of his fingers. Management got him medical attention, but production continued. The cleaning crew pretty much just sprayed hot water, and was told to just let this last batch of product through, after they "cleaned it" (they obviously retrieved the fingers before this). [Disclaimers] Im not against Vegan food, and honestly - Im sure this happens at ANY type of food processing facility. These injuries are common in the industry. - but I think back on how they *barely* cleaned the area, and continued running food through it. I dont work there anymore, it was a good paying job, and it helped me pay for my school costs. I'm Now working in my career field. It is high paying, and also there are things that break down and we have to wait to get them up and running - my point is We got A LOT of Over time pay. Management deals with unpredictable costs all the time. - Try not to waste the product/ingredients. - try to get back to "Up and Running", as soon as possible - Produce as much as possible - with as little of over time pay, as possible. This leads to some VERY difficult decision making, on their part. Not naming the company, because im not trying to "destroy them", or anything. Its just some gross, "behind-the-curtain" details, of the industry.

I worked in a car parts factory. We made oil pans for Ford f250 desiel scorpion (this was my cell, I eventually worked my way up to assistant cell lead/overtime cell lead), bell housing for chevy, chassis for corvette, cyclinder heads for Hyundai which were in two sizes but if I remember the bigger ones were made for the Chrysler - Seabring, jeep, some kind of housing for hybrid city busses and a couple other things. I really did love the job and if I had it to do again I'd have gone to school for engineering or specialized in robotics and gone to the program for Fanuc robots Damn those big bitches were majestic. Anyway, I digress. In case you're curious I'm in nursing now lol. It would blow your mind if you knew the specs and imperfections they allow in a lot of these parts. You'd think if you're paying $50-70 thousand for a truck they'd want it to be bomb proof. That's not the case. On the sealing face of the oil pans you were allowed something like a 2mm(about as big around as the tip of a fresh new crayon) wide and deep porosity hole or an impression, gouge, or gash that was 5mm long as long as it wasn't deeper than 0.5mm, the bolt holes that hold the whole mother fucker on the truck, yeah as long as the first 5 threads are clean and clear it's good to go. If certain castings had flash on them do you think we sent them back or someone came and safely removed it with a grinder? Nope, when I was in final inspection/packing I used to knock it off with a rod I found that I'm pretty sure fell off of some other piece of machinery and the fat handle of a big screw driver. Incase you didn't know freshly machined/milled aluminium is sharp as Fuck and I can't count the times I sliced off knuckles or got a metal splinter the size of a toothpick in a finger. So a lot of these parts truly had my blood, sweat, and tears. It's kinda fucked up considering the money people pay for these vehicles. All in all though I learned a lot working there and it gave me the means to buy myself my own little house. So, if you own a Ford f240 super duty diesel with the scorpion engine take a look and if the Julian date is between 2011 and 2013 with a big blue 832 in sharpie or stamped 11 that was me. I inspected and packed that heavy bastard with tender loving care, you're welcome 😂😂

Used to work at a Regal Cinemas movie theater. Here’s some tips: Tickets are cheaper if you buy them on weekdays between 8AM and 4PM, unless it’s for a special event screening. The hot dogs sit on the roller all day from open until close, so the earlier you order one, the better. Speaking of ordering things early, if you want to order a slushy, buy it early when it’s not crowded because that’s when the machine is least likely to malfunction. We only layer butter on popcorn if you order a large, unless you specifically ask us to layer your butter. You can also only get free refills if you order a large drink or popcorn. If you order a medium or small and want a refill, we have to charge you. Our “boneless chicken wings” are pretty much large chicken nuggets we unthaw in the oven. We only serve alcohol late in the day and very few employees who aren’t managers are trained to serve. We have the right to refuse you a sale if you’re too intoxicated. Running late to a show but want snacks? If it’s not too busy, just show us your ticket with your theater and seat number and we can bring the food right to you as soon as it’s ready!

The whole foods one didn't surprise me. I worked at a different grocery store bakery and we had the same bread they had (Although they had a bigger selection). Pro tip if a sign in a bakery says "Freshly baked" then you know the item was not made there because my company got sued for having a sign saying "Freshly made" when it wasn't. Honestly, all bread products are just warmed up in the oven to get the crust harder. Buns though, come in frozen dough and we proofed them and then baked them. Cookies would come in in cookie dough and we just baked them off. Cakes aren't made there either, they are frozen too but decorated. I had so many customers mad because we couldn't custom make a cake to be a certain color (like pink for a gender reveal) or whatever. The thing is, if you were going to have such a large selection of bread you're going to need more than 2 bakers working. There were some stuff we actually made there. Oh but donuts were not one of them. Those came in frozen and we would heat them up and just decorate them.
@elainehill65045 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I did bakery work for years. Sometimes corporate would get a bug up their ass about us having a "scratch" product, which meant we'd get buckets of pre-made batter to pour in pans to bake. We could custom flavor it, though, with the bags of pre-made fruit filling.

I used to work for a Batteries+Bulbs franchise. They rarely properly recycled anything unless it made them money. Car batteries and watch batteries were recycled fine because they carried either lead or silver and had some scrap value. Florescent tubes and Compact Florescent bulbs were just thrown away because they "came in broken", which means the employees would just break them so they could legally throw them away. I refused to do this and it's likely one of the things that put me on the owners bad side. This is because the tubes required we repackage them and ship them out for recycling, which evidently was too much trouble for the store owner to let us do and it cost us to do this. If you ever intend to recycle anything, check the dumpsters out back. Protip: it is perfectly legal to throw away your common alkaline batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, etc.) up to 50 lbs a year. No one is checking, and all that is actually recycled from them is the metal casing even if they are "properly" recycled anyway, the guts of the battery just end up in a landfill because it really cannot be recycled anyway.

Just if you want it ASAP order it by phone or online a little bit before you get there and they’ll make a fresh one before you arrive. Just make sure to wait for the fries, they have to make a fresh batch for you when you get there. Example: I saw someone scratch their head with gloves on and use those same gloves to touch all the food. They didn't care about cross contamination either. They would touch raw meat and use the same gloves or their dirty hands to prepare veggies and fruit. No one wore a hair net and most refused to wear gloves. Also they claimed the biscuits were homemade. They weren't. They came out of the box like everything else. Salads were made from the ends of lettuce that people usually throw out so they could save cost. They would use expired foods too so they could save cost.

i got one so we (me + housemate) got a new laptop together after trading in our old ones to a well known UK electronics + computer chain. worked fine till he got sick one night and took a drink of water, which came right back up all over the laptop. brought it in for repair and for £100, they fixed it for about 2 weeks. next time i decided to bring it to a local guy who runs his own tech repair shop. he fixed it for half the price and its worked ever since. i'm convinced most of those big companies hire idiots who just need a job instead of competent people.

My mom used to work at Lowe’s and came home with her wagon FULL TO THE CEILING with shovels, rakes, picks, etc. paid $0.25/ea. Sell to neighbors for a few bucks a piece. She did the same with anything else she could get her hands on. She traded a 10ft tall artificial Christmas tree to my aunt, an accountant, for accounting work for several years.

I used to work for Petco. They do donation drives every month and demand the cashiers to ask every single person, no exceptions if they were deaf, mute, or blind, if you didn't make a certain amount in donations every day they cut your hours. The manager gets bonus from the donation drives and food conversions--when you get people to stop buying IAMS and switch to something holistic, most likely Blue Buffalo or Merrick.

Moe’s food is actually fresh, but the work environment is friendly until you have to quit/you’re fired no matter the circumstances. I had to leave, told my manager the full extent; I tried to stay because I’m loved the job and had been accepted to a lesser college to stay/had a place, but had to go because my mom said I couldn’t talk to my brothers if I stayed, so I had to go home, and I never got my last check. Everything is fresh, everything was clean, we had a very strict, “no standing around, you can find something to do/clean” rule and it worked out so well and everyone loved it except two people. Other than leaving, everything was amazing and they treated us like humans.

The bit at 17:30 reminds me of a Harry Potter fanfic called "The Sleeper Awakens" where Percy Weasley decides to fight back by Bothering By the Book. One muggleborn who submitted inadequate proof of wizarding ancestry was told Ministry of Magic forms were supposed to filled out on blue or black ink, NOT green, and that as such he needed to resubmit his paperwork. Dear Madam Jenkins, you must appear before the Commission on the fourth of next month. Dear Mr. Charles, there has been an unforeseen scheduling clash with your hearing before the Commission on the fourth of next month, so it has been postponed. And so on and so on.
