This is one of the songs my grandmother sang as she churned butter. She would give us the dusty old atlas from the shelf and we would point to the state as she said that states verse. As I remember she would do the 13 original colonies. Then we would take turns making up a verse about one of the states that hadn’t been sang yet. I don’t think there is a direct replacement in modern society for the geography lessons around the churn.
