During the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Jesse Owens was warmly received by both the German crowd and Adolf Hitler. W. E. B. Du Bois also found no evidence of racial hatred towards blacks from the National Socialists during his visit to Germany in the 1930s.

While I like talking about controversial things, I see some mixed comments and that's understandable. This video is about sharing important stories that many people don’t know about. Big news and history often ignore these stories. This video doesn’t support Hitler or Nazi ideology. It just wants to show that these topics are more complicated than people think. I hope this clears things up a bit.

NO worries for this Story is True, his STORY was very interesting. We all know how Black Americans were Treated even though their the ones back then helped bring home many of Gold back then & even Now to this Day. Jesse Owen's was just one of Many Black Americans who never got the Credit that they deserved in this Country of the US. HAD Mrs. ROOSEVELT been PRESIDENT they would have, even though he did do great things as President, she's the One who Helped make Franklin look good.

@@kozmicflush980 It is not about the reality of Germany but also about the reality of US. A key point here: Owens was there BECAUSE of HitIer. Roosevelt, whose government enforced racial segregated among U.S. citizens (in sports, military, hospitals, schools…), was initially sending two less qualified Js instead of the far more deserving Owens and Williams. Hitler called him out on it and said he would not host such people. However, he explicitly welcomed all black athletes. By doing so, the “most racist” forced Roosevelt to send the black athletes he had sidelined for the sake of pleasing his handler$. This explains why the potato-faced minion ignored Owens' record-tracking victory and snubbed him upon return. It was HitIer who exposed Roosevelt as a racist, dumb, and owned tool. But, again, history (as in propaganda) is written by the victors.

Black Germans (there were a few) weren’t rounded up and murdered in Concentration Camps. I’ve heard two different Germans whose parents came from countries in Africa that had been colonized by Germany. I can’t remember which ones though. I want to say Zanzibar or Cameroon, but I’m not sure. One woman could no longer go to her German school, once Hitler said that only “aryans” could attend school in Germany. thankfully, she had a teacher, who taught her privately. That teacher and the teachers at her former school wanted to see that she got an education. She said they were very kind to her. Her father had died before the war. And her mom ran an antique store. She moved to the US as an adult. And taught for many years at the New York campus of the school she had attended in Germany. The other person who talked about growing up in Nazi Germany, was a man. His father had been a diplomat for one of countries that Germany had colonized. His mother was a White, German woman. He said that he was never harassed by the Nazis. He talked about him deciding that he must never date a German woman. He said he thought it wouldn’t be safe doing so. He lived in a small town and consequently never had any kind of romantic relationship. I found his story incredibly poignant.

Caucasian colonisers are worse than Hitler by a wide margin because they're still treating natives and minorities like in the 1800s today. Aotearoa,nz Maori are colonised by british caucasian colonisers and still no better off than the 1800s. Same with our Aborigine brothers and sisters colonised by british colonisers and most definately treated the worst but still native to the land. One day natives will rise and unite with others who're native to their lands. I won't be alive but we see the spirit and fire in all young natives everywhere. . We' natives are highly educated and talk back to colonisers in their coloniser talk and that really pisses them off.

We had a short story about him in our 10th-grade literature syllabus, titled "My Greatest Olympic Prize." It featured the African American athlete, Jesse Owens, sharing his experience at the 1936 Berlin Olympics and his beautiful friendship with the German athlete, Luz Long. Jesse describes how kind and friendly Luz was, despite being trained in a Nazi school. Luz exemplified true athleticism by helping Jesse gain confidence and qualify in the long jump trials. On that same night, Jesse visited Luz's room, and they engaged in an hour-long conversation about sports and expressed their mutual desire for world peace. Jesse also mentioned how Luz was the first to congratulate him when he won first place, while Luz secured the second place. There was no animosity between the two athletes, as both embodied the true spirit of sportsmanship. Jesse considers his friendship with the German athlete to be his greatest Olympic prize, surpassing any medal that he won on that special day.

Or are you talking about the racist history (and honestly present) of our country being removed even more from our schools? I'm just not sure exactly what you're saying with this comment. This video is a prime example of using a truthful statement to minimize another fact. The fact that he was treated without outright hostility doesn't change the fact that nazi German was absolutely racist and precived people of other colors to be less than fully human. They were treating him like a favorite circus animal that could do a clever trick not as a equal. 😢

I live in Norway. We where occupied, slaughterd and put in prison by germans. Today is 80 years since D day. Look it up, becaus clearly you went to american public school when You think Hitler was the good guy. People like you would be the first person to sell out your neighbour to a fascist government for 5 dollars to feel superior.

Except some waffen ss elements, all black POWs were treated as any other POW in the german army, some black soldiers who were fighting for the axis powers got segregated in their POWs camps (Not to say that they were treated good, because they were POWs)
