WHAT DID IT COST? The Total Options Prices of My Ferrari 296 GTS

Adding options to the specification of a car like the Ferrari 296 GTS can quickly become a scary game! Let's run through the full order list and exact prices of every option on the Shmeemobile, and prepare for some surprises along the way. I'm obsessed with the result of this spec!
It's an absolute privilege to be in the position to order a brand new Ferrari, something I could only have dreamed about a decade ago, and there's certainly an element therefore of always enjoying making something that's unique with a totally bespoke spec. The 296 GTS is only my second new Ferrari after the SF90 Stradale, and I wanted to make this something completely different; beyond being a convertible, having a V6, and being my first 'red' car from Maranello.
With a design that's very much a throwback to the 1960s Dino, I opted for Rosso Dino; a red that's very much at the orange end of the palette, and even the matching nod on the plate. The interior is a very custom mix of Grigio Scuro and Charcoal leathers and Alcantara on the upgrade Style seat.
The exterior is completed with Satin Grigio Corsa wheels and Giallo calipers to link with the Scuderia Shields; and wears the Matte Black exhaust at the rear with the satin badges, along with the full set of visual carbon fibre all around. On the interior the must have options like the Carbon Fibre LED driver zone are in position, and of course usability comes from the likes of the Suspension Lifter and Surround Cameras.
We'll break this list down into the exterior options prices, the cost for all the interior upgrades, and finally the technology spec that features on the Shmeemobile. You might be surprised by some of the figures, in both a good and bad way, but let's get to the final total for my Ferrari 296 GTS and see what it comes out to.

@@EsPeeArrEnn It is reasonable for what it is. It's all relative. You may be poor and £100 is probably a lot for you, but for most people it's whatever. The same thing applies here, for most people it's an amount of money they will never have, but in the supercar market it's a quite a nice and reasonable price for what you get.

Nice to see another Ferrari in the garage. Can never have too many. I have never really understood why people pay so much for carbon fibre. From 3 feet away it just looks like a dark grey trim, up close it looks like a shiny patterned plastic trim. I know it’s lighter but quite frankly you would never feel the difference. Personally I prefer plain black trims but I don’t have the funds to purchase the car let alone the trim. Good way of lowering the corporation tax when spending £73k on options alone. 👍🏼

Wow Ferrari sure know how to charge on the options. What I’m surprised at is how little you get as a standard fit like apple car play, a front camera, rear cross traffic alert and front reader. I do agree with you though spec can make a big difference when it comes to sale time. It’s going to be interesting Tim what the next Ferrari is going to cost when it arrives currently my favourite spec of your cars is the SF90.

@@philiprush3745 I agree £7,000 for what is a metallic colour is taking the pee when on any other car would be £700. Even Porsche aren’t that greedy they charge £1,000 for there special colour like crayon. But that’s Ferrari motoring for you. As one dealer told me many years ago we don’t set the price you do. In short if your daft enough to pay it then that’s the price.

@@stephenclay6852 Depending on the model Porsche charges between £2200-2900 for special colours like Crayon (only checked 911's). PTS colours are £8800-12500+ so they're not that much better.

I've always found some of the charges that Ferrari, Porsche etc can get away with charging just mind boggling. I doubt they would be this ridiculous if they weren't living in this bubble of excess demand. £462 to thread a different colour thread onto a sewing machine. That would take someone about 20 seconds to do. £719 to change the colour of thread used for the headrests? Bonkers. Virtually all of those two additional charges will be pure profit. Ferrari are no longer a low volume manufacturer and consequently they will enjoy a lot of savings from their economies of scale. I'd buy a Ferrari tomorrow if I could, but as someone who's worked in manufacturing for 30 years, they're creaming it on the options.

I think it's more outrageous when companies like VW/VAG do the same. They'll tell you the list price is 40K but then you have to add 10K in options until you even have a nice, modern car. If you take the full spec, you're going to be 15K above list price.

@@frooqy Well there's usually two. There's the "My First Ferrari" There's the "Unimaginative Ferrari" And obviously you can combine the two. Now while Rosso Dino is called Rosso Dino, It's very much orange.

I think the Topaz Paint Protection Film (PPF) makes great sense for a car of this value. Especially since you drive your cars on the open roads as Enzo intended. Realizing that it’s an aftermarket purchase and not a Ferrari option, you didn’t include it in the purchase price. Just curious to know what full car Topaz PPF adds to the car’s overall price. Another £5 to 10,000?

Making all those references to the original Dino, I would have gone for the Daytona seets. The Dino with the "chairs and flares" package has always been my favourite Dino 246 spec. Anyway, incredible spec, incredible car... Congratulations!!!

I love your choices of options : non carbon engine bay (make sense), your interior which surprises me and it works, the subtle matt Ferrari horse emblem and name, and last the Rosso Dino with grey wheels : it reminds me of Schumacher special Enzo. I think your Rosso Dino choice is at home at your 296 GTB than the Giallo, Rosso Corsa and TDF Blu. Big congrats !!!

Stunning car Tim, and the options fitted just add to the overall look- the 296 really suits that Rosso Dino finish. To put the value of these options into context- it’s about the same equivalent as adding £10,000 worth of factory options onto the base price of a VW Golf GTi, which is not that difficult to do on their configurator. Doesn’t make the £73,000 seem just so extravagant now…and the F296 is way more personalised than a VW Golf is ever going to be.

I just wanted to say this is hardly any different than the VW (or VAG in general) configuration options. You're paying 580€ extra on a a pair of door sills for a Cupra, or 890€ for an electric trunk door. If you add 10K of options for a VW/VAG car, you're not even fully specced. And then you still got a VW...

Another way to look at it: The cost of the options on the Ferrari are about the same as the total cost of the nice yellow Lotus sitting in the background. Couldn't the front number plate have been mounted within one of the blackened "nostrils" that flank the nose (to the right or left of the nose)? Much nicer that way in my opinion, but perhaps not possible.

I'm not the only one thinking a lot of the 'tech options' should be standard? Blind Sport monitoring for example, radar cruise control... All available on a top spec Hyundai i30 for less than the cost of the options. Bit silly IMO.
