Have you ever quoted Jeremiah 29:11 which says, "For I know the plans I have for you. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you a hope and a future?" Well, I've got news for you. Many people love to quote this verse but don't really understand what that verse actually means within its original context. In this video I'm going to take a detailed look at this verse so that when we quote, "For I know the plans I have for you" we will understand exactly what it means and how it may apply to our life.

I subscribed to you when I was still an atheist. I found you because I was interested in the book of revelation and you had videos on it. Then I read the entire Bible. I listened to Jordan Peterson and started to wake! Then Kanye released his album and got talking to some people on the internet about Christ. I tried praying and my prayers were answered. I slowly grew closer to God, and you were one of the first places in my journey. Thank you forever and ever!

He just restated what God has already told us in His word the Bible. God should not be mocked. We all will reap what we sow. If we sow with view to our fleshly desires we will reap corruption from our fleshly desires. (GALATIANS 6:6-7) God will not shield us from the consequences that result from our poor decision making or wicked conduct. We will likely suffer the consequences. But, like Manasseh, we still can make changes in our conduct to soften the face of YHWH and he will forgive and restore us if possible. (2 CHRONICLES 33:10-13)

One of my best verse! " And God shall wipe away every tear from their eyes, there shall be no more death, not sorrow nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." Revelation 21:4✝️ Sure we can use the verse!! As their situation was so is ours in many ways!! The bottom line, this world is not our home. We are simply passing through. We are pilgrims and sourjorners on our way to a better place. "...a city with eternal foundations, a city designed and built by God." Hebrews 11:10✝️

Have a Wonderful and Blessed day!!! If you have never called upon Jesus please call upon him today for salvation. He is the only way to heaven, not denomination, not how much we have or don't have. It is not by good works (Although it is important to be loving, and charitable). It is not skin color. It is not who we know here on earth. When we read the following verses it describes the days we are in. Time is going very quickly. The enemy is using so many distractions to keep people from Jesus and to keep believers focusing so much on the hate, fear, destruction, we see daily. As we have seen since the beginning of 2020 we know not what a day will bring. We need to put our trust in Jesus and be in prayer daily for all people. We need to remember too the Lord sees one race the human race, the saved, and the lost, on Jew or Gentile. To hate anyone because of the color of their skin is telling the mighty God, the creator he messed up. Please call upon Jesus today. 2Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 2Timothy 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. Matthew 24:37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Matthew 24:38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, Matthew 24:39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Ephesians 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

@Justin Durham Thank you for your input but are you saying that God has not choosen Christians? If you are then you did not read the NEW TESTAMENT. We are also chosen by God. He did tell the Israelites that if they do not obey then he will choose a people that are not his own Roman's 9:22-25.There are many more scriptures. Furthermore the Israelites were to live as examples for us to see God's glory. That was an epic fail. But I thank them because now "Grace", God's Grace and mercy is extended to us gentiles.
@lilchristuten7568
@lilchristuten7568 4 жыл бұрын
@Justin Durham Either you don't know or you seem to have forgotten that through Jesus God grafted the gentiles into the nation of Israel [Romans 11]. So that scripture does indeed belong to Christians if you account for it being for the future. Also it matters not at all about whether that message was for the people of Israel or Christians because that doesn't change the facts that God knows the plans he has for us, and that his plans are to prosper us and give us hope for the future, it is us who cause his plans for us not to come to fruition.

Overall a good message. I want to comment on this, though: "You can't believe yourself out of something you behaved yourself into......." Nice, preacher's statement, but I think it's not a very accurate one, because it's underestimating the grace and mercy of God and misrepresenting the role of faith. Indeed, we cannot believe ourselves out of a paper bag, let alone God's action in our lives. However, even if we bring trouble or negative consequences upon ourselves, God (as our loving heavenly father) will rescue us when we call out to Him. Our faith may be weak, and our sins and their consequences great and serious, but His grace and love will overcome them all!

Yes, that works when it comes to the spirit man. However, not necessarily for the human side of us. We don't always get we what we pray for. Its not name & claim it. Sometimes we get rescued & quickly delivered. Most of the time we have to walk the process out. We, as western culture Christians really have no idea the hardship it truly can be. Christianity is not for the faint of heart.

@@wlknonsonshine Good. I live in Asia and I see people who have very little in the line of material wealth. Believers are not exempt from poverty or suffering, but have a hope of God helping, supporting and supplying their needs. Believers have hope of divine healing, but even if they die, they know they have an awesome, perfect, pain-free home in heaven awaiting them. The prosperity gospel gives people hope- that's good and I think we should have hope and strong faith. But when we limit our hope to this life or the confines of the expectations we set or project, we'll probably be disappointed. I don't think that's good for faith.

That is not in the Bible, however. You can be " extricated" from your own messes, depending on what God decides to do. Not sure what he means by " believe your way out " but I don't always see a correlation between the degree to which a person started the " mess" and the rapidity ( or slowness ) of God's answer. It's not as " black and white " as Allan implies. My opinion!

I recall a preacher who once said that God could teach us in different ways. The one he said he never wanted was where God taught him through suffering. He said that whenever he began to suffer he would pray, "Lord, if there is something You want me to learn, help me learn it fast, so I don't have to suffer long." I think that's a great prayer. But there are other reasons we suffer. Sometimes it's for the sake of the gospel, sometimes it is because of the sins of others, because evil exists in the hearts of man. Jesus promised (and most don't seem to realize it is a promise) that while in this world we WILL have tribulation (trouble). Often we repent and do everything we can to escape a place of suffering, but there is one thing I have learned in over 40 years as a believer, and never heard anyone talk about. God the greatest Psychologist knows the exact best psychological moment to do something for us, as well as the exact best thing to do. And often He is simply waiting for us to come to the place where His actions will be best received and taken into our hearts before moving for us, even as we think we are "waiting on Him". No one ever "waited on God": He is so far beyond us this is an impossibility. The reality is, that He and we are both waiting for the moment when we can be psychologically right to receive what He has for us. The difference being that God knows this, and we usually don't. So, in addition to the great prayer for God to help us learn anything we need to learn fast, I think another great prayer is for us to ask God to help us get where we need to be so He can bless and deliver us, if possible. Because another catch to this is, that God sometimes uses our suffering to bless and change the lives of others who may be watching. So perhaps a third great prayer might be, "Lord, help those You might be using my suffering to bless to learn what they need to know soon, for I know Your word says You do not wilfully afflict the children of men." I just say..."Lord I give this burden to you".....because only our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ knows what plans God has for us. I never take it for granted that when I pray, my problems will be taken care of right now. I believe that God is trying to teach me something or there's a reason why he doesn't answer a prayer right away or sometimes he doesn't answer at all. I learned that unanswered prayers always benefit me and my family in the long run.

I'm a little late with my comment, but for many years I had a keyfob with Jeremiah 29:11 on it. I've never really saw this verse as saying I would somehow be wealthy here on earth. I think it boils down to our understanding on what it means to be prosperous in the way God wants us to prosper. Not worldly wealth, but an abundant life full of the blessings that money cannot buy. I'm so grateful for the many, many blessings received and can't thank God enough for all of them.

Decent exegesis. However, at the end, the conclusion is (even according to the teacher) God has plans to bless and prosper those who are allied with Him. It may not be in the timing of the individual confessing the promise, but it doesn't negate the promise... Even in context

I stumbled onto Allen’s channel only recently but watched enough of them that I was feeling pretty confident, when I found this video on such a chronically misused verse, that his exegesis would be spot on, but after a solid drive toward the endzone, looking at the context, I believe he stopped just short and punted back to the 50 yard line. This verse clearly is a promise by God to uphold His covenant with his chosen people that were currently in exile at the time of Jeremiah, and as Allen pointed out was not necessarily fulfilled for the same generation to which it was spoken. Where I believe this video fell short was in implying that the promised blessing (and reason for hope) also applies to us but may only be delayed. The only real application of this verse to Christians today, especially those of us only “grafted” into the family tree through faith in Jesus Christ (note: those branches included in the old covenant still require faith in Jesus to prevent pruning), is to understand one small facet of the character of God, that He alone chooses when and when not to, as well as how to, prosper us. If anything, Jesus promised we would be blessed in this life by being counted worthy to suffer because of Him. That is not to say that Christians will not, or should not, prosper in this life, and there are verses that can be applied from the old and the new testaments to give us hope for our future (most referring to eternal future) and strength for today, but Jeremiah 29:11 is not one of them.

@@lorinzechiel8465 Exactly. In terms of this world, the only thing Jesus promises for sure is that we will know suffering. One of the best biographies of Martin Luther King Jr.is entitled "Bearing the Cross." We don't believe that Jesus will remove all our burdens, but that he will bear them with us and give us the strength to "endure to the end." I'm always amazed when someone says they lost their faith because of some terrible tragedy that happened in their family. Did they actually believe that tragedies and suffering don't happen to Christians? You can't go around the cross to Jesus, you can only go through the cross.

I see this scripture as... he has plans to prosper people when they are able to actually listen to the LORD again. Yes... sometimes we have to carry our cross too, we may suffer even when we are following him... so it's not all bells and whistles when we are back on the covenant path... however, the Holy Spirit will comfort us in our sorrows so that we will be able to bare our suffering. And if we are truly aligned with God... the things that would usually hurt us don't anymore, because we know what is really important - not worldly things - suffering often comes when we place our minds on wordly things... And we have our minds on the living water. It's all about faith. He's just asking us to have faith in him, and jump all in with him, and make him our foundation. Then when the winds blow, we will not be shaken. But there is a time of suffering after sin, yes.

It's just like Pastor Allen said in this video, you may have to sit still awhile where you are, but while you are sitting in that situation you desire to be removed from LIVE! Work, go back to school, socialize, go to a good place Bible teaching church, volunteer... but continually keep your communication with God and declare out of your mouth "God I still TRUST in you in my Savior Jesus Christ name, Amen". And keep pursuing your dreams, until God confirms that with you.

what do you mean by that though, do you mean that every bad thing in our lives is linked to sin, and not to spiritual warfare? do you believe its only the flesh we are fighting, or do you mean that in some cases we sin, and have to repent and are punished by God..? Raymond Holthuijsen I think God allows Satan to attack us for the sake of our own spiritual growth and His glorification (I.e. Satan intended it for evil but God intended it for good). I think we should still always ask God to bring us out of our distresses because the reasons behind our circumstances are far more complex than we could ever understand - just like in Job. It can be a mix of our own bad decision-making and the other causes you mentioned. I believe that we, along with God and His angels, are at war with: 1. Satan and his fellow spiritual beings that are in rebellion against God, 2. Our own sinful flesh, 3. The world and its systems. I hope this answers your question. God bless

Justin Durham After the 70 years of Babylonian captivity they went back to their homeland and remained there and rebuilt, although under the dominion of other empires, just like Daniel proclaimed. Then, when they rejected the Christ (ergo rejecting God Himself) they were scattered again, just like Christ promised in Matthew 23. But Christ has built a house in Himself and includes those of us that are in Him. People focus too much on kingdoms and nations but need to have their focus on the kingdom of Christ. Then, in that Day, He will come back and make all things new. It was never about religion or religious systems, national identity, or anything like that. It has always been about righteousness and right standing with God, freedom from sin and the powers of darkness. That is for anyone who will adopt the mind of Christ, and that is who will stand in that Day of judgement.

@Justin Durham Jeremiah 31:32 is fulfilled in those of us that are in Christ and have His Spirit. The Spirit of God (i.e. Holy Spirit) in our spirits/minds/hearts helps us to know who God is, to know His ways, and delivers to us the power to walk in His ways as He expected the OT kingdom of Israel to do, but they would not. This is the New Covenant, being confirmed by Christ at the last supper. Stop focusing on nationality, which was exactly what Christ criticized the first century Jews for (John 8:39).

@Justin Durham How do you know the whole world doesn't know "Yah," as you say? Men have rejected Him because men would rather love darkness. That doesn't mean He hasn't made known His word or His Son. Even those of us in Christ still struggle with sin because, as the Apostle Paul says, "There is another law that works in me, so that the good I would do, I don't do, and the evil I don't want to do is what I do (Romans 7:23). But that was the point of the kingdom of heaven, as proclaimed by Daniel in Daniel 2:44. The kingdom of heaven is here and He is breaking the powers of darkness that keeps people bound to sin and destruction. Again, please take your eyes off of national identity and seek the kingdom of God!

Christianity is not about happiness, prosperity etc but about the course of God that shapes our life into what he pre-determined for each one of us. In this way we accept life the way God brings it not what we humans think life ought to be. It is through suffering that our hearts develop patient endurance until things get better.

We can still quote this verse. This is a word of hope. Even when are going through God's discipline. We can still trust his plan for us, no matter what.

Man, I remember reading the book of Jeremiah last year and then I got to this chapter. I was so amazed and embarrassed because I thought what everyone thought about verse 11. Spent 2 days just going over verses 4-11 and just repented for reading God's word wrong. This video is amazing. God bless brother Parr.

Ikr....that's the thing...we want to quote...because it's all about us. When really we don't want the other part, which is the 70 years. It's so sad the Bible is used as a self help book & we want to plug our name into all the positive scenarios.

His Conclusion in the 29:11 is wrong . For sure after a 70yrs in exile, then God assures the he will restore them . The bible in the verse 11 never said the plan was the 70yrs exile but after the exile. Jer 29:11-14 NET 11 For I know what I have planned for you,’ says the LORD. ‘I have plans to prosper you, not to harm you. I have plans to give you a future filled with hope. 12 When you call out to me and come to me in prayer, I will hear your prayers. 13 When you seek me in prayer and worship, you will find me available to you. If you seek me with all your heart and soul, 14 I will make myself available to you,’ says the LORD. ‘Then I will reverse your plight and will regather you from all the nations and all the places where I have exiled you,’ says the LORD. ‘I will bring you back to the place from which I exiled you.’

Wow! I love contextual preaching. This was great. Another scripture that gets misquoted ALL the time is, John 10:10. It is always referred to the devil that comes to steal, kill and destroy. No. The devil lies. He has been a liar from the start and comes to convince us of his lies. In the context of that scripture it is "false teachers" that come to kill, steal and destroy. Amen, brother. Can't wait to hear more of your teachings

Allen, dear brother in Christ. Can you do a video on this verse: "From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force." (Matthew 11: 12) ESV. What does it mean? Thanks and God bless you. Amen

It means that there are constantly people or evil spirits that try attack the kingdom (attacking good phrophets, Christians, the plan of God, everything related to God) the devil always tries to stop and attack but in the end he won't win.

Does Jeremiah 29:11 also apply to creation? I’ve used this verse when discussing transgender issues. I understand the main verse is in Genesis but I also believe that God has a plan for us that dictates how he created us. People struggling with those thoughts may struggle with the idea that they were created “correctly.”

I would think psalm 139 would be a better verse to make that point. Jer 29:11 does make a point about God's general sovereignty, but it seems disingenuous and dangerous to simply "claim" a promise made to someone else in a particular situation as if it applied to us too.
